As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!
Best wishes for a wonderful and magical new year!

Calling all recent WDW travellers! šoš
I still have 173 Days 21 Hrs 40 Mins 21 Secs until I get to experience the magic again and I was wondering if there were any PassPorter Friends out there that could bring us up to date on the new attractions at the parks.
Most specifically, I am interested in hearing about Spectromagic, the new Alladin ride and the Agrabah section of Adventureland and the new Mickey Sorceror Hat at the Studios.
Can you give us a tiny glimpse of these new experiences? Thanks a bunch!

Hey Cruella,
I can speak about Spectromagic for sure. The first time we saw it was in 1992 when it was brand new. It is the one memory that my then 4 year-old still has that is his own!! Whenever I would hear the theme music from it, bam, I was there.....sitting in Liberty Square watching the parade with him. For us it was truly a "Magical Moment". It's an awesome sight. We were fortunate to time it right, this May when we were there that they had just brought it back again, so Andrew was able to see it again, from a 13 year-old perspective and he still loves it!! My personal faves are the color chainging carousel and the fish.
As for Agrabah, I some hysterical pics of DH and Andrew wearing funny Aladin and hats and posing as "flying carpet salesmen". It was a great browsing section, something besides the normal Disney souvenirs.

Cruella, there are some really COOL pictures of the Magic Carpets ride on http://www.laughingplace.com/. Can't wait to see it myself - only 150 days left!

Re: Calling all recent WDW travellers! šoš
The Magic Carpets were in ride testing when we were there but they didn't open until 9 days AFTER we left!!
The only change I saw on Spectro was Roger Rabbit had been replaced by the Genie!!
We did notice we DID NOT like the direction the parade came this time. It came from Mainstreet.....last time it was the other way and we could actually see it better.....we always watch from Liberty square and it seemed "too close up". Sort of hard to explain I guess, but still tops on my list, second only to Illuminations - Tapestry of Nations, my new fave.....anyone else listen to the Epcot CD as much as we do???? DH thinks we're nuts.....we switch between EPCOT, Aerosmith (to remember Rock N Roller Coaster), and my "Disney Dreamin" CD I made @ Disney Quest.

Agrabah sounds super Shelley! I can't wait to see it! Did you go on the magic carpet ride? Did anyone squirt you with water?
I, too, remember seeing Spectromagic before and I loved the music. Have they made any changes that you could spot? Any new characters?
Thanks for the update! šoš

Re: Calling all recent WDW travellers! šoš
We rode the magic carpet ride and really enjoyed it. The spitting camels were a little disappointing though! They are just stone figures around the inside of the pool under the ride cars that continually spit water. I was really looking forward to being "spit at" on a hot day. But it was still fun. The front seat controls the up and down of the car and the back seat can tilt the car forward and backward. mary

Thanks, Amystice for the laughing place link. I've read descriptions of the Aladdin ride but I'm a visual person - I need pictures. Looks great!

As far as the sorcerer hat at the studios, it may be OK when it's finished, but it definitely takes away from the Chinese theater!
I was going to post a link to a picture from late May, but I'm having trouble with the site. Maybe I'll be able to do so tomorrow!

Re: Calling all recent WDW travellers! šoš
We loved the magic carpet ride. 4yo, 8yo and Mom and Dad, we all thought it was fun. The camels do spit water but it is very unlikely that you will get very wet. You have to be the right height at the right time. We rode 2 times and the lines were not long but with no shade it is a very hot wait. We saw Genie and Jasmine in the shop and Jasmine called my 4yo boy handsome. He says she is his new girlfriend. The ride is alot like Dumbo but those sitting in the back can control the tilt of your flying carpet. Spectro Magic was wonderful. The cast members who help with crowd control before the parade were wonderful. They are friendly and really help everyone get in the spirit to watch this terrific show. Re: Calling all recent WDW travellers! šoš
We didn't do the magic carpet ride (we just got back)because my kids didn't care for the Dumbo ride (they are 13 and 9). But we loved the Spectromagic parade. It was a mixture of all the stuff Disney has done...Little Mermaid, Mickey, Cinderalla, Capt. Hook, etc. It reminded me of the Electric light parade. Very colorful. I thought it was great. Though it seemed very short to me.

Re: Calling all recent WDW travellers! šoš
Spectromagic is still among my favorite Disney experiences. From what I understand the direction of the parade can vary, depending on the situation. It's best to check with Guest Services to be sure where to set up camp. My only complaint is that the walking lit-up characters usually are very numerous during the finale carousel that changes color (my favorite part too!) They are wonderful with the kids and it's hard for me to enjoy the parade AND the interactions with the many characters. My son Jon is in love with Mary Poppins! It's one of those moments you wish would go in slow motion so you could savor it longer! It would be great if these characters could be spread out through the parade especially during the relative "lull" times between floats.
We saw the new sorcerer's hat saw through the "peep holes" at the construction site. Building still in progress. Please forgive, but what will it "do" when all finished?
I'm definitly going through withdrawal as we just arrived home and we're not sure of our next visit. Can't get dh to commit just yet. He said maybe 2 years... or maybe 18 months. Arrgh. It's a long wait!
All the best,
Debbie V

Re: Calling all recent WDW travellers! šoš
Do not miss Spectromagic. It was definitely one of those Disney Magical Moments. We watched from Liberty Square in front of the gift shop/rest room area. Three different characters stopped and visited with my children. Mary Poppins asked my son why he still had his sunglasses on, and Peter Pan had a staring contest with my daughter. They both loved it. It was definitely in my top 3-AKL and Illuminations being the other 2.
The kids enjoyed the Alladin ride, got right on without a wait at all. The area around the ride looks great.
The construction workers were there working on the hat. It looks like it'll be great when finished. It actually looked complete to us, but it was hard to see past the fence!
