Forums Closed
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.

So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.

Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.

And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.

We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.

There are other changes as well.

Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:

We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.

It's time to move on and move forward.

PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.

But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.

So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.

And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.

That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.

Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!

If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.

So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

Best wishes for a wonderful and magical new year!

Cupcake Friday
(as if Friday in not sweet enough)

Lemon Meringue
More Cupcakes from BOG

Well it looks like we have about finished all the cupcake offerings in Magic Kingdom, other than the seasonal ones (which are standard cupcakes with a seasonal decoration…boring). The cupcakes at Big Top really did not appeal to anyone, and someone suggested that we go back to BOG and try out the rest…

Apparently the Lemon Meringue cupcake is the ugly stepsister in BOG Quadruplet grouping of cupcakes as I can’t find a lot of reviews or a decent description of the cupcake. Basically it is a vanilla sponge cake filled with "a bit too sweet” (according to reviews) lemon custard filling, and flamed meringue icing.
I like lemon flavor, but I wonder if I would like this cupcake. Has anyone tried it? Reviews? Should we add this one to the cupcake crawl celebration?

Sunday Stats
Week of April 14-18
Week of April 20-26

Weekly Total Mileage: 7.82 miles
April Total Mileage: 36.83 miles

Coming off of a successful 5K (Bluebell) without much pain, I was excited to start a new training week...

Monday, April 14 (NONE): No time today as I was on college visit with Ab out of town.

Tuesday, April 15 (WALK-2.62 miles/15:39 mm): I had fully intended to get both a walk and a run in today since I had taken the day off to attend to some doctor appointments (and did not get anything in on Monday), but I just did not seem to get it done. I did manage a walk, though without pain! YAY.

Attempting to change my life, different park today!

Wednesday, April 16 (WALK-2.02/15:52 mm): I was feeling good about getting out there during lunch, but about ½ mile into my lunch walk SHIN PAIN. Where did that come from really? It was all I could do to walk 2 miles. Not good. So much for trying to get an interval run in tonight!

Liliacs...OH I love the smell!

Thursday , April 17 (INTERVAL-2.08/16:01 mm): No walking at lunch today, instead I decided that it would be a good idea to rest at lunch and get an interval run in after school. So I attempted 5K Wk 7/D1 but a mile into I had to stop and walk as the shins were not having any of training again today. Ugh, time to rest…I am so not good at resting.

Squirrel, Squirrel

Monday, April 21 (WALK-1.10 mi/15:52 mm): After taking a few days off I was ready to get out there for my lunch walk. My shins had a different plan and after ½ mile I was wondering if I would make it back to school. Looks like a long rest is in order. GRRRR

Love the Easter season...

Now to VENT a little...and maybe lick my wounds! I had a terrible experience with the doctor a few weeks ago and it has taken me sometime to recover from the blow...

Last month I decided that it was time to go talk to a foot/ankle doctor about my reoccurring/persistent shin issues, maybe the cause had to lie within my feet. The appointment day finally came and with nervousness (along with a strange gut feeling I was not going to get answers) I went. I have to say this doctor is prompt, because right on time I was whisked back to a room where I met with the PA where I explained my dilemma, problems, and what I wanted from this appointment. Without asking too many questions, he sent me back to x-ray and less than 10 minutes later came back and told me there was nothing wrong from the x-rays (duh, I knew that). So he started going down a checklist on things to do for shin splints, all which I have done and are doing. Again, I asked him could it be something with my shoes or my feet in general. I basically shoved my shoes in his face and asked should I be wearing these? He ignored me and then gave me THE LECTURE…basically telling me that I am a 40 something overweight female who really has no business running in the first place that maybe I should be listening to my body and if it has been over a year of shin splints that it was time to give up with the notion of running. Again, I shoved my shoes in his face and asked him to look at my feet…which he did not because he wanted to but because I basically demanded it. His verdict was that maybe I should were a neutral shoe that I tend to be somewhat flat footed. HUH, that was not what the sports medicine doctor told me (and the running store) last July when I developed the stress fracture and again he LECTURED again about maybe I should listen to my body and not run. I gave up in defeat trying to get him to understand what I wanted and needed from him, cursing myself that I did not go to the run store in Austin when I had a chance and leaving with $50 less in my pocket and holding back tears.

He did give me a prescription for PT sessions, which I don't need because I am not injured at the moment plus told me they could do an orthotic shoe fitting if I wanted to run in those...

So here I am again...shin issues and no answers. Not a lot of other choices for doctors in my area...so that is really out of the question.

I will be in the Dallas area next week so I am going to look for a running store with a gait anaylsis computer....because despite what he says I need another excuse to give dh for a trip back to WDW!

I'm actually thinking perhaps you should try PT. If nothing else, just for another opinion on how you look when running and an opinion on your shoes! They are waaay more knowledgable than the doctors regarding sports and - duh - getting back to moving your body properly again.

Perhaps you don't need expensive orthotics, but some kind of insert could be very helpful to you. Especially if the problem does lie within your feet! When I did PT after my knee surgery, I explained that I need to get back to running. At the time, I had the W&D coming up in 4 months, so yeah, I needed to get back to running! So everything she did for me (exercises, stretching and strength) was not just for my knee, but also to help me as a runner. Eventually, she watched me run on the treadmill and gave me a few pointers to helping my form. AND - told me to get some inserts. Nothing expensive, but a certain brand to purchase and it would help support my feet which would in turn support my knee better.

Another friend of mine also had serious foot pain after running and her first doctor told her that her running days were over. She refused to listen, went to another doc (more sports oriented) and he found through MRI that she had an extra tendon in her foot causing pain. After some PT and orthotic inserts, she's running better than ever.

Get a second opinion - and try PT. It may help you!!

That photo of the lemon meringue cupcake at BOG doesn't look very appealing. When I was there, I had the chocolate one and loved it. Sending you for the shin pain.
