As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!
Best wishes for a wonderful and magical new year!

I'm totally bummed that our trips didn't overlap. On the other hand, maybe it's better this way -- I'm not sure The World will survive you ladies!!
Can't wait for your next installment!

Re: Will the World Survive us?! Day 1, part 1
Day 1, Part1
May 11, 2005 5AM
I woke up after very little sleep at 5:00. I had to be at the airport at 6:30 and I still had to pack a few things so I went through my suitcases and checked and double checked that everything was there. I closed everything up and brought it downstairs and grabbed some coffee and a water. I got my book to read on the plane and Muffin and I loaded my stuff in the car. I couldn't believe that I was really on my way to this long awaited adventure!
I arrived at the airport and checked in and then went to the bookstore to grab some trashy magazines. When I arrived at my gate, there was no plane sitting there! The US Air rep came on when it should have been time to board and made an announcement that the plane was delayed a half an hour and that as soon as it arrived, it would take about 15 minutes to get it checked out and that we'd be on our way. This was the beginning of many announcements that, after a while, noone even paid any attention to! I called Terri a couple of times and then just gave up and waited until we were actually on the plane to let her know that my flight was delayed two hours!! We were originally supposed to land at MCO at 10:20 and we didn't get to the gate until around 12:00! I am so glad that they build in extra time because, other than the waiting in the airport, it seemed pretty quick.
Anyway! My baggage was the very first off the plane and I immediately called Terri, who was already at AKL. I told her that I hadn't even rented my car yet and that she should go do something until I arrived but she was happy to hang out in the lobby and wait.
I hopped a shuttle over to Hertz, got my silver Taurus for the week and was finally on my way!! I was also supposed to meet Jill and her daughter at 1PM at the MK Bakery for a treat and since it was 12:55 by the time I was on the road, I was pretty sure I wouldn't make it! I called her three times before I got her because I think cell phone reception in the parks is a bit spotty. (Do you hear that, Bill?! )
Anyway! I got a hold of her around 1:10PM and explained what had happened. She sounded lovely on the phone and said it was no problem and that she and Mary Devall would be there all day! I told her by the time I got to AKL and checked in and changed and found Terri, we probably wouldn't get to MK before 2. Little did I know that was a great underestimation!! I had forgotten to take into account the travel time from TTC to MK and wound up having to call her back again to say that we would just call when we got there!
I know you guys have heard this from me before but as soon as I saw the Walt Disney World sign, I started tearing up! I just feel totally transported when I travel underneath that sign and I think I always will. Since it was just me in the car, just one picture of it this time, but the feeling was both familiar and wonderful.
Even further, when seeing the tops of the huts at AKL, I started blubbering like a baby! I totally and completely am so in with this place. It is truly my idea of what heaven must be like! I got a grip and valeted the car and went to find Terri! She was lounging in one of the lobby couches just waiting for me to spot her! Hugs were exchanged and we went to check in. The CM put us on the second floor on the Zebra trail. I cannot for the life of me remember the room number! Maybe Terri can! Anyway! it was an awesome view and I had never stayed on this side of the resort before so this was a new experience for me! We went straight to our room and got changed and headed right over to the MK to meet Jill and Mary Devall! I was so excited and I'm pretty sure Terri was too!! Of course, we had to check out the view first!!
We drove to the TTC and took the Monorail from there. I called Jill as soon as we were through the gates. It was around 2:45PM, so we passed through some parade traffic but it really wasn't that bad. We waited a few minutes and we both realized that we were starving! We went to Casey's for a hot dog and fries and wolfed that down before meeting up with Jill. I immediately recognized a lovely pregnant woman and, of course, Mary Devall!! What an awesome way to start our trip! We exchanged hugs again and talked for a bit and then went inside for some treats! Mary Devall had to have a 'lellow' cupcake even though Jill said that she had already had one. Terri split it with her, I got some delicious coffee cake and I think Jill did too! We had a great time. Mary Devall is just a sweet little girl. She's quite a character and I can totally picture her as an actress someday! We were having such a good time that we decided to hang out with those guys until it was time to go back for dinner. We did Tomorrowland Speedway and IASW and had some pictures taken with Stitch and Buzz Lightyear. Then, sadly, had to part ways. Here are some pictures so far:
Managed this on the way in!
Ahhhh, paradise!
Me, Jill, Mary D and Terri
