Forums Closed
|
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!
Best wishes for a wonderful and magical new year!

Re: YOU WERE A LITTLE GIRL IN THE 70\'S IF...
Okay here is where Robin inserts photos! I hope you get a kick out of them...I was born in 73 so I TOTALLY relate to many of those things on the list.
Here they are:
Me in my Holly Hobby dress
Me in pig tails (notice the BLONDE hair and the pop top tabs on the soda cans??)
Me on our shared Big Wheel! I am smiling because my sister FINALLY let me ride it!

YOU WERE A LITTLE GIRL IN THE 70'S IF...
You wore a rainbow shirt that was half-sleeves, and the rainbow went up one sleeve, across your chest, and down the other.
Also had the rainbow suspenders that Mork wore with my General Hospital buttons on it. And the baseball shirts with your name on the front.
You made baby chocolate cakes in your Easy Bake Oven and washed them down with snow cones from your Snoopy Snow Cone Machine.
My cousins had the Easy Bake Oven. Didn't know anyone with the Snoopy Snow Cone - but I really wanted one.
You had that Fisher Price Doctor's Kit with a stethoscope that actually worked.
Never had one.
You owned a bicycle with a banana seat and a plastic basket with flowers on it.
Had the basket with the flowers on my purple bike.
You learned to skate with actual skates (not roller blades) that had
metal wheels.
Yup. To earn some girl scout patch we had roller skating lessons.
You thought Gopher from Love Boat was cute (admit it!)

You had nightmares after watching Fantasy Island.
Never had nightmares, but loved Fantasy Island!
You had rubber boots for rainy days and Moon boots for snowy days.
I had neither. But I did have Earth Shoes.
You had either a "bowl cut" or "pixie," not to mention the "Dorothy
Hamill" because your Mom was sick of braiding your
hair. People sometimes thought you were a boy.
I've had the pixie, the shag, and the Dorothy Hamill.
Your Holly Hobbie sleeping bag was your most prized possession. I HATED Holly Hobby. My mother did my room over with HH wallpaper and bedspread. For some reason she had it in her head that I like it. I think she liked it herself.
You wore a poncho, gauchos, and knickers. Don't recall the knickers, but yes to the poncho and gauchos.
You begged Santa for the electronic game, Simon.
My cousins had one.
You had the Donnie and Marie dolls with those pink and purple satiny shredded outfits. Didn't have the dolls, but I did have an album
You spent hours in your backyard on your metal swing set with the
trapeze. The swing set tipped over at least once. Again, my cousins had one.
You had homemade ribbon barrettes in every imaginable color. yup.
You had a pair of Doctor Scholl's sandals (the ones with hard sole & the buckle). You also had a pair of salt-water sandals.
You wanted to be Laura Ingalls Wilder really bad; you wore that Little House on the Prairie-inspired plaid, ruffle shirt
with the high neck in at least one school picture; and you despised
Nellie Olson! Loved the books, not the TV show so much.
You wanted your first kiss to be at a roller rink. I wanted my first kiss with Andy Gibb!
Your hairstyle was described as having "wings" or "feathers" and you kept it "pretty" with the comb you kept in your back pocket.
Yup. Had a few combs to match different outfits.
You know who Strawberry Shortcake is, as well as her friends, Blueberry Muffin and Huckleberry Pie.
I was too old for these.
You carried a Muppets lunch box to school and it was metal, not plastic. I had an HR Puffnstuff lunchbox
You and your girlfriends would fight over which of the Dukes of Hazzard was your boyfriend.
Every now and then "It's a Hard Knock Life" from the movie, "Annie" will pop into your brain and you can't stop singing it the whole day. No, that would be my sister who watched it over and over and over on VHS
YOU had Star Wars action figures, too! I had a Star Wars album that had the whole movie on it.
It was a big event in your household each year when the "Wizard of Oz" would come on TV. Your mom would break out the
popcorn and sleeping bags! A big event in our household.
You often asked your Magic-8 ball the question: "Who will I marry. Shaun Cassidy, Leif Garrett, or Rick Springfield?" I hated Shaun Cassidy and Leif Garrett - I loved only Andy Gibb (Rick Springfield in the 80s)
You completely wore out your Grease, Saturday Night Fever, and Fame soundtrack record album. Sure did.
You tried to do lots of arts and crafts, like yarn and Popsicle-stick
God's eyes, decoupage, or those weird potholders made on a plastic loom. Pot holders - I believe they were called loom
loopers". Girl Scouts
You made Shrinky-Dinks and put iron-on kittens on your t-shirts! Went to the T-shirt shop and picked out the decals I wanted on my shirt
You used to tape record songs off the radio by holding your portable tape player up to the speaker. OMG! This was too funny!
You couldn't wait to get the free animal poster that came when you ordered books from the Weekly Reader book club.
Double score if it was a teddy bear dressed in clothing. My mother didn't believe in ordering from these.
You learned everything you needed to know about girl issues from Judy Blume books (Are you there God, It's me, Margaret.) Love Judy Blume!
You thought Olivia Newton John's song "Physical" was about aerobics. What?! It wasn't!
You wore friendship pins on your tennis shoes, or shoelaces with heart or rainbow designs. I had I love General Hospital and purple heart shoelaces.
You wanted to be a Solid Gold dancer. Sure did.
You had a Big Wheel with a brake on the side, and a Sit-n-Spin. I did have a Big Wheel until it got stolen from our yard.
You had subscriptions to Dynamite and Tiger Beat.
You spent all your allowance on smurfs and stickers for your sticker album!HATED the smurfs, but did have a nice sticker collection.
