Forums Closed
|
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!
Best wishes for a wonderful and magical new year!

YOU WERE A LITTLE GIRL IN THE 70\'S IF...
This just came in my inbox and made me smile many times...apologies if you've seen it too many times already!
YOU WERE A LITTLE GIRL IN THE 70'S IF...
You wore a rainbow shirt that was half-sleeves, and the rainbow went up one sleeve, across your chest, and down the other.
You made baby chocolate cakes in your Easy Bake Oven and washed them down with snow cones from your Snoopy Snow Cone Machine.
You had that Fisher Price Doctor's Kit with a stethoscope that actually worked.
You owned a bicycle with a banana seat and a plastic basket with flowers on it.
You learned to skate with actual skates (not roller blades) that had
metal wheels.
You thought Gopher from Love Boat was cute (admit it!)
You had nightmares after watching Fantasy Island.
You had rubber boots for rainy days and Moon boots for snowy days.
You had either a "bowl cut" or "pixie," not to mention the "Dorothy
Hamill" because your Mom was sick of braiding your
hair. People sometimes thought you were a boy.
Your Holly Hobbie sleeping bag was your most prized possession.
You wore a poncho, gauchos, and knickers.
You begged Santa for the electronic game, Simon.
You had the Donnie and Marie dolls with those pink and purple satiny shredded outfits.
You spent hours in your backyard on your metal swing set with the
trapeze. The swing set tipped over at least once.
You had homemade ribbon barrettes in every imaginable color.
You had a pair of Doctor Scholl's sandals (the ones with hard sole & the buckle). You also had a pair of salt-water sandals.
You wanted to be Laura Ingalls Wilder really bad; you wore that Little House on the Prairie-inspired plaid, ruffle shirt
with the high neck in at least one school picture; and you despised
Nellie Olson!
You wanted your first kiss to be at a roller rink.
Your hairstyle was described as having "wings" or "feathers" and you kept it "pretty" with the comb you kept in your back pocket.
You know who Strawberry Shortcake is, as well as her friends, Blueberry Muffin and Huckleberry Pie.
You carried a Muppets lunch box to school and it was metal, not plastic.
You and your girlfriends would fight over which of the Dukes of Hazzard was your boyfriend.
Every now and then "It's a Hard Knock Life" from the movie, "Annie" will pop into your brain and you can't stop singing it the whole day.
YOU had Star Wars action figures, too!
It was a big event in your household each year when the "Wizard of Oz" would come on TV. Your mom would break out the
popcorn and sleeping bags!
You often asked your Magic-8 ball the question: "Who will I marry. Shaun Cassidy, Leif Garrett, or Rick Springfield?"
You completely wore out your Grease, Saturday Night Fever, and Fame soundtrack record album.
You tried to do lots of arts and crafts, like yarn and Popsicle-stick
God's eyes, decoupage, or those weird potholders made on a plastic loom. Pot holders - I believe they were called loom
loopers".
You made Shrinky-Dinks and put iron-on kittens on your t-shirts!
You used to tape record songs off the radio by holding your portable tape player up to the speaker.
You couldn't wait to get the free animal poster that came when you ordered books from the Weekly Reader book club.
Double score if it was a teddy bear dressed in clothing.
You learned everything you needed to know about girl issues from Judy Blume books (Are you there God, It's me, Margaret.)
You thought Olivia Newton John's song "Physical" was about aerobics.
You wore friendship pins on your tennis shoes, or shoelaces with heart or rainbow designs.
You wanted to be a Solid Gold dancer.
You had a Big Wheel with a brake on the side, and a Sit-n-Spin.
You had subscriptions to Dynamite and Tiger Beat.
You spent all your allowance on smurfs and stickers for your sticker album!

You mean it wasn't I remember asking my sister one time what oral sex was and she said "Oh that's when you just talk about it" I think I was in college until I found out this was NOT true.

Re: YOU WERE A LITTLE GIRL IN THE 70\'S IF...
I still have my Holly Hobbie sleeping bag.
And I couldn't bring myself to sell my Donny and Marie dolls at the last garage sale, even though I sold most of my other Barbies. (I still can't figure out why)
AND, I still have about 25 tapes of stuff I recorded off the radio, record player or other cassette player Joshua (3-year-old son) keeps asking what they are and I tell him it's Mommy's music. Too many memories to throw them away. Music reminds me of exact moments ... I guess I'm just too sentimental. I pulled one out to listen to the other day and it was just so funny how bad the sound quality was.

YOU WERE A LITTLE GIRL IN THE 70'S IF...
You wore a rainbow shirt that was half-sleeves, and the rainbow went up one sleeve, across your chest, and down the other.
Yes I had one.
You made baby chocolate cakes in your Easy Bake Oven and washed them down with snow cones from your Snoopy Snow Cone Machine.
I had the Easy Bake, but not the Snoopy Snow Cone Machine.
You had that Fisher Price Doctor's Kit with a stethoscope that actually worked.
?? Didn't have this.
You owned a bicycle with a banana seat and a plastic basket with flowers on it.
Loved it. Plus it had ribbons on the handle bars. And I put those plastic cover things (like straws) on the spokes.
You learned to skate with actual skates (not roller blades) that had
metal wheels.
LOVED to roller skate! Every friday night!! "Can't stop thinking about tomorrow.
You thought Gopher from Love Boat was cute (admit it!)
Yep
You had nightmares after watching Fantasy Island.
Never had nightmares. But I loved to watch this!!
You had rubber boots for rainy days and Moon boots for snowy days.
no moon boots for me
You had either a "bowl cut" or "pixie," not to mention the "Dorothy
Hamill" because your Mom was sick of braiding your
hair. People sometimes thought you were a boy.
I had a pixie AND a Dorothy hamill. I spent most of my childhood in a Dorothy hamill.
Your Holly Hobbie sleeping bag was your most prized possession.
Loved Holly Hobby. She is coming back now, you know.
You wore a poncho, gauchos, and knickers.
All of the above.
You begged Santa for the electronic game, Simon.
I LOVED to play Simon. Unfortunately I was in the hospital a lot when I was little and Simon kept me occupied on those long days. I bought my DDs one for Christmas a couple years ago.
You had the Donnie and Marie dolls with those pink and purple satiny shredded outfits.
No Donny and Marie dolls for me. But I was a little bit country ...
You spent hours in your backyard on your metal swing set with the
trapeze. The swing set tipped over at least once.
Yes!! And I almost got a concussion hanging upside down on the trapeze when I decided to see what would happen if I only used one arm to hold on.
You had homemade ribbon barrettes in every imaginable color.
You had a pair of Doctor Scholl's sandals (the ones with hard sole & the buckle). You also had a pair of salt-water sandals.
OMG!! Those Dr. Scholls were soooo uncomfortable. What were we thinking????
You wanted to be Laura Ingalls Wilder really bad; you wore that Little House on the Prairie-inspired plaid, ruffle shirt
with the high neck in at least one school picture; and you despised
Nellie Olson!
I had a brown Laura Ingalls shirt!! Nellie Olson was a brat!!!!!!!!!!!!!! But she always seemed to get her due.
You wanted your first kiss to be at a roller rink.
I don't remember, but it could have been.
Your hairstyle was described as having "wings" or "feathers" and you kept it "pretty" with the comb you kept in your back pocket.
I definitely had feathers. But what use was the comb because we had so much hairspray it wouldn't go through your hair anyway. But I did keep that comb in the back pocket of my Jordache!!
You know who Strawberry Shortcake is, as well as her friends, Blueberry Muffin and Huckleberry Pie.
Loved strawberry shortcake. And also Punky Brewster!
You carried a Muppets lunch box to school and it was metal, not plastic.
I think I still have it
You and your girlfriends would fight over which of the Dukes of Hazzard was your boyfriend.
I was a Bo girl myself.
Every now and then "It's a Hard Knock Life" from the movie, "Annie" will pop into your brain and you can't stop singing it the whole day.
YOU had Star Wars action figures, too!
I think my brother had them all. I once used them to make a mobile in my science class.
It was a big event in your household each year when the "Wizard of Oz" would come on TV. Your mom would break out the
popcorn and sleeping bags!
Also when the Charlie Brown Christmas/Halloween/Thanksgiving shows came on. And also Rudolph and Frosty.
You often asked your Magic-8 ball the question: "Who will I marry. Shaun Cassidy, Leif Garrett, or Rick Springfield?"
I loved them all!!!!!!!! I had my room plastered with Teen beat pictures of all of the above. Especially Rick!!
You completely wore out your Grease, Saturday Night Fever, and Fame soundtrack record album.
Icould do all the Grease and SNF moves!!
You tried to do lots of arts and crafts, like yarn and Popsicle-stick
God's eyes, decoupage, or those weird potholders made on a plastic loom. Pot holders - I believe they were called loom
loopers".
Girl Scouts!!!!!! We also made sooooo many of those loom looper pot holders!! We had a whole drawer full.
You made Shrinky-Dinks and put iron-on kittens on your t-shirts!
Yes!!!
You used to tape record songs off the radio by holding your portable tape player up to the speaker.
How we have progressed!!
You couldn't wait to get the free animal poster that came when you ordered books from the Weekly Reader book club.
Double score if it was a teddy bear dressed in clothing.
i have all the Frog and Toad books.
You learned everything you needed to know about girl issues from Judy Blume books (Are you there God, It's me, Margaret.)
OMG. Are you there God!! I can still quote some of the lines.
You thought Olivia Newton John's song "Physical" was about aerobics.
It wasn't????? Wasn't she wearing a headband while signing this.
You wore friendship pins on your tennis shoes, or shoelaces with heart or rainbow designs.
OMG. I forgot about these!!! Yes. I had them.
You wanted to be a Solid Gold dancer.
Yes.
You had a Big Wheel with a brake on the side, and a Sit-n-Spin.
Weren't those cool. You could really skid when you pulled the brake fast. We used to use the electricity meter on the house as a gas pump.
You had subscriptions to Dynamite and Tiger Beat.
That's where I got all the pictures of Shaun Cassidy and Leif Garrett and Rick!
You spent all your allowance on smurfs and stickers for your sticker album!
I was just explaining Smurfs to my DD this Sunday on the way to church!!!
