As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!
Best wishes for a wonderful and magical new year!

Re: Your Favorite WDW Memory
Mine is very similar to Geri's. Last year we were at AK one afternoon and a very heavy rain storm moved in. We were in line to go on Kali River Rapids and we figured since we were going to get wet anyway, let's just have fun with it. So we stood in the rain and got soaked while everyone else was running for cover. We had a blast!! We were laughing so hard and my 4 year old was having so much fun. We went on the ride and got even more wet which made us laugh harder. It was just a really fun afternoon - reminded me of why Disney always brings out the kid in everyone.
One of my other favorite magical memories was last year when DD met Cinderella & Prince Charming during MVMCP. They spent a lot of time with her. At one point Cinderella picked DD up and turned her to face the castle. Together with Prince Charming they pointed up to the tallest room of the castle and told DD that from now on that was "her" room! To this day, every time we pass the castle DD looks up at the castle and points out her room to us

Re: Your Favorite WDW Memory
I'm off to see Mickey again in a short while, so I'd like to hear more of the magical moments before I go. It just makes my heart leap to hear magical stories right before I leave!
Here is my most recent from Christmas Family Trip, Dec.'05:
1. Watching the faces on the family members who were seeing things in WDW for the 1st time.
2. Goofy signing the autograph book and the pen got caught on his paw and went flying into the wreath on the wall at Donald's Breakfastasaurus.
3. Their faces when I had them taste "Beverly", espeicially my MIL's!
Now please share yours with me.....

Re: Your Favorite WDW Memory
Mine would be when we were able to go with our kids, their spouses and the grandkids. We surprised them with providing their accommodations and park tickets and they were responsible for their food and souveniers. Our oldest grandson was almost 15 at the time and the youngest grandson was 2.5. Even with that gap in their ages they are great buddies. To see them enjoy the parks together was heartwarming. I have pictures on my computer that I use for my desktop and screensaver so I see those memories each and every day!

Re: Your Favorite WDW Memory
Watching the setting sun reflecting off Cinderella's Castle from the (now gone) cable car between Tomorrowland and Fantasyland during my first ever WDW trip. I'm not that good with heights, but that time I didn't even notice. I think of that every time I see the castle

Re: Your Favorite WDW Memory
Christmas Day 2002
My mom and dad treated my sister and I to a Disney Vacation for Christmas. We took the first bus from ASSp and made our way to MK for the rope drop. As we walked onto Main Street USA Mickey and Minnie were coming out. We were second in line to get a family photo taken with them! It is a day I will NEVER forget. Even in my dysfunctional family there were no fights, no arguments and everyone was just happy...VERY VERY VERY rare!
During the same trip Tigger was coming out to greet guests. I was able to sneak into line. There were three families in front of me. When Tigger got to me he grabbed me and started dancing with me. It was just one of those wonderful Disney moments!
May 2006
AK was open late and I decided to go to the last showing of FOTLK. The theater was only 1/3 of the way full so everyone got great seats. I was able to sit in the front row. Timon sat on my lap and I had "bugs" picked out of my hair by monkeys!
I have a TON more...but those two are my favorites. I also REALLY enjoy Passporter meets. They are always ALOT of fun.

Re: Your Favorite WDW Memory
The biggest would be when we told DDs that we had won a trip from Kellogg's and that we would be staying at the Grand Floridian! There was lots of jumping and screaming going on. Next would be the looks on their faces as they experienced each park the first time.
On the trip we won, we had dinner at 1900 Park Faire and DDs met the Fairy Godmother. 10yo has Asperger's and a very difficult time interacting with characters. She was very shy but the FGM was great with her. We were back aout 6 weeks later (long story) and got to the MK just in time for the Share a Dream Come True parade. Just as the FGM's float passed by us, she looked RIGHT at DD, waved, in perfect timing with the soundtrack that says, "I remember you". DD actually waved back and looked up at me with HUGE eyes and smile and said, "The FGM remembered *ME*!" I was sobbing like a baby and am as a write now...truly a magical moment.

Re: Your Favorite WDW Memory
My personal favorite memory of WDW was from our trip in 2003. My family of 5, my parents, and my friends and their family (of 5) visited in October. We were at the MK, in Mickey's Toontown and went to the Judge's tent. I wasn't really sure how this place worked, but I knew we would meet hopefully Mickey.
So we snaked our way through the ropes (only 1 family in front of us if I remember correctly), waited a few minutes, a door opened, and OMG . . . IT WAS MICKEY MOUSE!!!!! And we had him all to ourselves???!!!!
It may seem weird, but I don't think I had ever actually "met" Mickey before! The CM was awesome and took lots of pictures of us together and our own families. I think they're a few of the only pictures I'm actually in and smiling!!!!!!

Re: Your Favorite WDW Memory
My favorite WDW memory was May 2006 when my husband who is very non-Disney type of guy said thank you for making this a great vacation. I had planned our entire Grand Gathering vacation for three families. I love to plan for WDW and seeing the joy on my families face as we rushed off to enjoy another adventure has been a treasured memory for me.

Re: Your Favorite WDW Memory
The best thing EVER was watching my son's face during his first trip in 1999, when he was 6 years old. I can still vividly picture his little face as we walked hand-in-hand down Main Street.

Re: Your Favorite WDW Memory
I have 2 of the most magical memories from this past trip in August. The first one is when DH and I decided to go parasailing at the Contemporary to give us something different to do. I was so nervous the night before we went because I wasn't sure what to expect. When we got there and got on the boat I was REALLY nervous. The guys on the boat were so nice and helped calm some of my fears. After I got all hooked up and was sent up into the air it was the most RELAXED I have ever been! It is so peaceful up there and you can see EVERY park at Disney. It was 10 min of the best view anywhere in Disney. The next time DH and I go we are totally going to book this again! The other magical memory is when we did the Dolphins in Depth tour. We got a behind the scenes tour of the Living Seas at EPCOT, and we got about a half an hour in the water with the Dolphins. It was a once in a lifetime experience that I will never forget.

Re: Your Favorite WDW Memory
My favorite WDW memory was in 2005 when my DH and I took our DD 18mos. at the time, for her first visit. My Mom had passed away 2 months prior, after a 3 year battle with brain cancer. She was only 56. I was devastated, we had already had the trip planned before she died, so we decided to go. In my opinion there is no other place in the world that grabs a hold of you and gives you a big hug, like WDW does. You can't help but be happy. It was so AWESOME to watch DD get excited and have a good time. I had a bunch of tears here and there, but it was such a wonderful trip.We were in such need of a vacation after the horrible last month my Mom had on Earth. My Mom had taken me many times to WDW, so it felt wonderful to carry on that family tradition.

Re: Your Favorite WDW Memory
When my family and I were walking up an almost empty Main Street in MK to eat at CRT on our first trip to WDW. My DDs (6 and 8 y/o at the time) were skipping and laughing and playing tag all the way up Main Street. It brought tears to my eyes to see them frolicking in front of Cinderella's Castle.
I think I was so emotional because it was our first day of our first trip to Walt Disney World and seeing my kids play with no one around but the castle as their backdrop and the other few morning stragglers that were behind us was just fantastic
That memory still makes me smile.

Re: Your Favorite WDW Memory
My favorite memory is ... Well, I have 2 really. An old one and a brand new one.
The first is shortly after I was married. My DH was in the airforce and was stationed over seas. Some good friends of ours took me to DL as a going away gift shortly before I joined him. I was 18. ( we married right out of high school) I can vividly remember standing in line to ride Big Thunder Mountain for the first time. there was a teen guy being this really big jerk and pretending to grab the rear of every good looking girl who walked past. I was a mischevious thing and couldn't take his highjinks any more. When he reached out the next time I pinched the bottom of some poor girl. She jumped about 10 fet in the air and spun around. There was this guy with his mouth hanging open and his hand in just the right position to have done it. The girl regained her wits and promptly said thankx and walked off. All the guy did was stand there dumbfounded. Everyone had a good laugh about it and when we saw the guy later all he could do was blush every time a girl walked by. I loved that day. I was pulled in to the parade, and Martin climbed a lamp past and pulled down a star on a wire to be a magic wand for me.
As an adult I would have to say my favorite memory is just last month. I took my kids and mom to celebrate my DD's 7th. On her birthday we went to see the princesses in the Judges Tent in Toontown. We saw Aurora and Mary Poppins first and she was just as happy as could be. Then came the best moment of the trip for me. We walked to Snow Whites cubby. I wish you could have seen the look on her face. Her utmost favorite character right in fornt of her. Then Snow saw her B-Day button. She got down on her knees and sang Happy Birthday in perfect character. DD was in tears of joy and I must admit I ws about bawling myself. My mom had to take the camera from me to get a picture! I just couldn't believe it.
When she started term at school this year a young lady in her class said she had had the best birthday party over the summer with a pool an pony rides and what not. My all knowing DD pulled me off to the side and whispered into my ear "That's no big deal. I was sung to by a real Princess!"

Re: Your Favorite WDW Memory
My favorite WDW memories...
* Driving through the Walt Disney World Entrance for the first time
* Watching Wishes for the first time
* Our last night of our first trip- I had made reservations at Narcoossee's. We had our appetizer and as we were waiting for our entree, Wishes began. The lights dimmed in the restaurant and they played the Wishes music. We were seated near the window and could look out and watch Wishes. My DH looked at me and said how great of a job I did planning the trip down to the tee so that we could have that magical moment...but this was our first trip and I was a novice. I had NO IDEA that the Wishes fireworks could be viewed from the restaurant, nor that I had booked our ressie at the perfect time to view them. Of course, I didn't let him on that I didn't know that, and I just smiled and so began my obsessive planning of our trips!
* Which brings me to my favorite WDW memory... we lead a hectic and somewhat stressful life. DH has many medical issues and lives with depression. I have a time-consuming job that is relentless. So, when we arrived at Disney and we laughed and smiled and didn't worry, complain, argue or work...well that was just the most magical moment ever! And why we come back again and again!
