As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

You guys are so sweet... It made me feel better just to vent about it. Y'all should see this guy... "jerk" is a perfect way to describe him. Has this big huuuuuuge Hummer, a motorcycle, AND a boat. Wow, trying to overcompensate for much?? Every time I would say something to him, like asking him for the 400th time where his paperwork was, he would mock me as soon as I turned around. (Did he think no one here would tell me?)
He'll get his, one way or another. I am just going to refocus my efforts and make the nickels scream even more and get another one, if they're still available. It just felt so good to basically have Christmas DONE, you know? Oh well, stuff happens.
Thanks again for all the sweet thoughts and words -- y'all made me feel tons better!

Gina, I'm so sorry! Is there any possibility of it being insured? Possibly thru your credit card or the company? Probably not worth filing a claim... Aaaargh; who ever did that will get theirs in the end... butthead!
This is a great suggestion. I know homeowners often replaces stolen items even when on vacation. A friend had a video camera stolen at the Poly and homeowners replaced it in full.....it might be worth looking into. Also, the business owner would have an insurance policy as well. Good luck....
Yeah, I'm going to ask the owner about the insurance thing. I wouldn't be able to file on mine, because the deductible is about 5 times higher than the actual item. I'm not sure how personal items at a business place work -- I'm going to ask the owner when he gets here.

That is really really terrible Gina.. how nasty! I hope he is guilted into confessing & giving the DS back to you..
If it's not recovered I o have another suggestion.. do you have a Game Stop or Electronics boutique near you.. they have used/refurbished systems VERY inexpensive.. I saw a DS at our Game Stop for only $40.
My DD wanted a DS forever & we were going to get her one for Christmas this year & this Summer found one at a yard sale for only $20.. it was in mint condition.. ( this was an upscale yard sale) the sellers told me the reason they were selling it is(get this) "my daughter didn't like the silver one, she wanted the pink one!" It works great so even yard sales or Ebay might be another avenue for you to try.
Grrrrr i cant stand people that take things that are not THEIRS!!!!!! And i understand about scrimping and saving....we are in the same position right now. and i would be LIVID if someone stole from my child !!!!!!
I would put sugar in his company truck gas tank....not nice but it would make me feel better to cost him $$$$$$
im not sure where pearland is.....is it near houston?...we are in the beaumont area and ill help you any way i can i HATE theives
I hope you get it back I totally understand, my son is wanting a DS and is picking up extra chores to earn the money to buy one, I've never seen him work so hard, lol. I've been putting him off as his father just told me that they bought one for him for Christmas. But I understand how important this is to your son, I hope they get the grinch that took it. I'm a strong believer in karma -- remember what goes around, comes around.....

*hugs* I'm actually more in Friendswood than Pearland, about 20 minutes from Galveston. Thanks bunches for the sweet thought -- I appreciate it more than you know!
We really are like family here, and that's why this is so hard. The dad retired last year and the son took over, but this little building where we are is behind the owner's parents' house. They are like another set of grandparents to me, and I adore them. I love it here.
UPDATE: The owner's dad just came to me and told me they feel terrible about what happened, and they are going to either replace it for me or reimburse me so I can order another one!!! This is so sweet of them... this was not their fault or responsibility. I just checked, and the Walmart.com site still has the limited edition one, which completely surprises me! I am going to order another one and take the $$ out of savings, and if they do reimburse me here then it'll just be gravy. My son's favorite colors are red and black, which is why I wanted this special edition DS so bad. I know he'll love it.
I have never dealt with law enforcement at all before, but I have to say that the Brazoria County Sheriff's Office is awesome. I apologized to the Peace Officer for having to come out for such a small and silly thing, but he was so nice and professional. He said that theft is theft, that it was my property, and that because of the value of the items it was considered the same as a marijuana possession, charge-wise. Luckily I had already registered it with Nintendo, and had the serial number. They put that into their computer, and if it gets pawned anywhere it will immediately come up as stolen. It's a small comfort, but I'll take what I can get.
Thank you all again so much for the pixies and good thoughts... I felt so awful about coming here and whining about all this, but you guys are the BEST.

That's AWFUL that someone did that to you - but karma will get him in the end if the law doesn't. And - I'm glad I just got caught up and saw your update.... it's good to hear that there will be a happy ending for you too!
