As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!
Welcome! We're happy you've found the PassPorter Community -- the friendliest place to plan your vacation to Walt Disney World, Disney Cruise Line, Disneyland, and the world in general! I've lived in West Virginia my entire life, but I've visited a lot of other states, and I can honestly say that for me, there is nothing as beautiful as West Virginia. We have a great climate - summers that aren't too hot, winters that aren't too cold. It's never too rainy or too dry. We get just the right amount of snow in the winter. Falls here, with the trees changing leaves and the mountains are just . Everything's JUUUUUSSSST Right!
That's not to say that I want to live here my entire life - if there were better opportunities for people to make money here, I'd love to stay. Unfortunately, we're so impoverished, and the only companies that are interested in "investing" in our state are the same ones that want to take everything that makes WV great and destroy it - mainly coal, logging, and industrial companies.
DBF and I are planning to move somewhere down south - probably Florida. Personally, I'd love to live on the Gulf Coast. I just want to be close to the ocean (and close to WDW can't hurt either!)
I love Indiana. Yeah, it's the only state I've lived in for more than 6 months (did a 6 month stint in Houston, TX as a teen - typical trouble child sent to live with relatives thing), BUT - DH and I, 13 years ago figured that we could move to anywhere we wanted. Looked into a lot of different places, but Indiana won out, hands down.
I love the fall here, the seasons are all different, the weather is never the same, we almost never have a "drought" or floods and the people are always polite.
It's like several states in one: The Oregon Coast with nearly 400 miles of beautiful coastline, evergreen forests, Sahara-like dunes, and sandy beaches. The Willamette Valley with farmers’ markets, historic towns, covered bridges, rolling hills, and over 200 wineries. Mt. Hood and the the awe-inspiring Columbia River Gorge with quaint riverfront towns and countless waterfalls, not to mention the amazing ski areas. Eastern Oregon has desert lands and wild rivers including Hells Canyon, the deepest river gorge in North America. Southern Oregon has the famous Shakespeare Festival, the country's deepest lake, Crater Lake, and the Oregon Caves National Monument. And last but not least, Centeral Oregon with over 300 days of sunshine a year, and over 150 rivers and lakes.
california baby!!! Thats my state!!! But there are a few others I love!!! I have always been amazed by New York!!! And New England when the leaves on the trees are doing their thing is just amazing!!! Yes I know New England is more then one state. Oh man do I lose points?
I would have to say Washington. I live about 1 1/2 hours from Mount St. Helens and 2 hours from the coast. Three hours gets me to Seattle (go Mariners!!) and 30 minutes gets me to Portland. The winter is nice and cold and the summer is nice and hot. The rain is wonderful and refreshing most of the time, but it really only rains a lot in the Spring. Plus - no humidity!!!!! I lived in Virginia and hated the humidity (although I did like all the historical places). Somebody here at work was just telling me how awesome Minnesota is - I'd love to go check it out.

From the oceans, to the lowest point in the US (in death valley) to the highest point in the lower 48 (Mt Whitney). Redwoods, beaches, mountains, fertile valleys
I have lived in Ohio and Kentucky. I love Kentucky because I truly love having all four seasons and would miss that if I were to live in Florida, which is too hot and too humid for too many months. But I wouldn't mind living there part time when I retire. I would love to visit Wyoming as a friend who has been there swears that if Luke and I ever went, we'd never come back to Kentucky.
Being that I'm a beach person and love New England, I'd say the state I loved the most in my visits was Maine. Some day I'll get back to Portsmouth, Camden, and Rockland! Rachel, you're one lucky lady!
In Maine I love the coast, the rural areas, the quality of life, living in a hip urbanesque town without a whole bunch of crime, historic neighborhoods, tree-lined streets, and I like the architecture. Fall is great, summers are ok, spring usually doesn't exist. What I don't like is the job market, the TAXES, and the winters are too darn long. But, if it was good enough for my great, great, great, great grandfather, it's good enough for me!
I do at times crave wide mountainous settings of the West a la Brokeback Mountain, but without the drama.
My heart belongs to Connecticut. I miss it and hope to move back someday. I've been in MI for 8 years now and still don't feel "at home". The economy here is terrible but my DH has a really good job in the casino industry and they pay WAY better than Foxwoods or Mohegan Sun did, so here we stay until something better comes along.
I was born in North Carolina, so that has a special place in my heart. It was sort of my Dad's "home base" so we were sent back there quite often(4xs). I have also lived in California, Illinois(3xs), Hawaii, Pennsylvania, Georgia(3xs), Maryland, Arizona, Texas, Alabama and the last 11 years in Virginia. I also lived out of the country for several years. I don't know where I'd like to live. Every place has something good, something bad. I'd like out of northern Virginia, the cost of living is astronomical and out of control. Don't even start with the traffic!
If I could afford it.....Hawaii! But then it would cost too much to get to my happy place! *SIGH* Guess I have to stay where I am a little longer or win the lottery!
I've livied in Northeast Ohio my whole life. I've always lived within walking distance of Lake Erie and it's beaches. I don't swim in it but I love walking along them. Just south of here, are farms and the foothills of the mountains in West Virginia and if you go west it's all flat prairie land. I like having the four seasons but the winters can really be bad. North Caroline is one of my favorite states and I like Florida just not in the summer.
Liz
I'm a Texas girl and I will always love this state. But I'm not a fan of the coast and the area that I live. I would rather live in the Panhandle of Texas because it's not as HOT!! Down here I'm talking walk-outside-and-you-can't-breathe hot. I like the cool weather. But DH and DS are both hot-natured guys, so this area suits them fine. If I had to pick a state to live in, it would probably be Colorado or Wyoming. My ultimate state to visit would be Montana.
I really find this hard to answer - there are so many wonderful states. I love Florida, California, Pennsylvania and DC itself - I think that counts as its own state? I don't think I can narrow it down much more than that....
I was born and raised in RI but have lived in CT for 27 years (which is longer than I lived in RI). Still consider RI home even though most of my relative are gone but I still love CT, too. After that, I like Florida (for obvious reasons!) and I've always had a fascination with seeing California (which I haven't been able to do yet).
