As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!
Best wishes for a wonderful and magical new year!

Yacht , Beach Club or Boardwalk???
LOL, I'm beginning my planning for my 2009 trip to DW, since i just got back and the BC is fresh in my mind, I thought i would ask my fellow passporters their opinions.
For an anniversary trip minus the kids, just DH and myself, would you stay at Beach Club, Yacht Club or Boardwalk and why?
We decided this trip that we may want to do a split trip, the last half we would spend at the GF, we have dreamed of staying there since our first trip in 89, it's been a long wait.

Re: Yacht , Beach Club or Boardwalk???
I've never stayed at Yacht & Beach....but I've stayed at BWVs 4 times with a spring 2006 vacation already confirmed. Since they both are just "a walk away from each other" you can enjoy both. I like the atmosphere of the "BoardWalk" side while the "Yacht & Beach" side is quieter. We do walk over to Yacht & Beach or take the "friendship" boats to visit the shops and eat at Beaches & Cream...but we usually stay on the "Boardwalk" side,as I find I like it better there. As for the Grand Floridian, you'll just love it. We've stayed there twice and it is fabulous.......we stayed in Nov. & Dec. with all the "holiday" decorations, it was beautiful.....They really make you feel "special" while you stay there. You'll never forget that "vacation"............I recommend Grand Floridian highly......and also BoardWalk Villas...enjoy your planning stages,as I am now....rella

Re: Yacht , Beach Club or Boardwalk???
Rella,
i tried to PM you but it said you are not taking messages.
Can you give me more detail as to why you like the BWV, i had considered them but was concerned about it being to noisy.
I know we will love GF that is why we will end our trip there, somehow wherever we go after GF just won't seem as special.

My vote would go for BC. I love everything about it...from the greeter to the brightness of the rooms.

Good point. Wasn't Art awesome? He was so good, after greeting us once, saying "welcome" the next time he saw us he said "welcome back welcome back" so he remembered already seeing us.

The Beach Club is our favourite - we just love the atmosphere of it, Stormalong Bay and its proximity to Epcot.

Re: Yacht , Beach Club or Boardwalk???
I'm torn between the Beach Club and the Boardwalk... They are both light, airy, and have a feel good atmosphere of being down the shore. I definitely have to give the BC marks for having the cooler pool... but if you're going for the romantic trip for two... be warned that Stormalong Bay is not for someone who is just looking for a quiet chaise lounge and some sun.
The Boardwalk has, well, duh, the Boardwalk ... It's got tons to choose from for the older crowd... although it was frat-boy heaven at the nightclub when I was there in August... not exactly what my fiance and I were looking for.
Not entirely certain why I don't enjoy the Yacht Club... it just seems so much more formal than the other two...
Good luck making your choice!

Re: Yacht , Beach Club or Boardwalk???
Noreen.....sorry about the PM, I just updated and it should be ok now. We have stayed at different locations at BVW and all were great. My favorite was the studio room with the Boardwalk view. It was on the second floor right over the General Store. The view was spectacular....the sunrises and sunsets over the water were beautiful. We watched the fireworks from Epcot and MGM from our balcony.....not the entire production but the higher ones were able to be seen. We also watched the nightly entertainment on the boardwalk from the balcony........we did enjoy it on the boardwalk live too.....My husband and I were there last Nov for our anniversary...it was really nice. It was noisy when the door was opened but once it were closed the noise level quieted right down. I enjoyed this location the best....as a matter-of-fact, my spring vacation is already confirmed for this location. We also stayed in room overlooking the theme pool. We were on the 3rd floor there. It was a great view but it was noisier than the boardwalk room......but again once those doors were closed.....no noise. On our last vacation in August our rooms were over the quiet smaller pool. The rooms were on the 2nd floor and this was the quietest of all. I was able to be out on the balcony at different times of the day reading without any distractions at all. We also at one time had a room on the canal side....it was further away from the lobby and the boardwalk but it was a blessing for us.....we were at WDW during Hurricane Charley. The hurricane happened on a Friday night.....everything was closed down. Since all the restaurants are on the boardwalk and we were not allowed to go out.....the cast members brought in food and provided entertainment for us in the lobby. Saturday morning we called the airport and we were told it was opened but delayed flights....we checked out only to be called back 30 minutes later from the airport and told that it was closed until Monday....The cast members found us another (the canal side) and we were able to stay there until Monday morning....The cast members there are wonderful and so helpful and pleasant to deal with. I hope some of this helped.....I love the boardwalk view the best but I've never been unhappy with any of the locations.. rella

Re: Yacht , Beach Club or Boardwalk???
I absolutely love the Beach Club (the villas there are my fave of the WDW resorts I've stayed at to date). However, since you have already stayed at the Beach Club once before, I'd opt to try something a little different for your anniversary and stay at the Boardwalk Inn. I think it would be wonderful to be able to walk right out of the resort and have all the entertainment of the Boardwalk right there at your fingertips.

I LOVE he Beach Club, it's one of my favorite resorts in all of Disney. The atmosphere was great - everything was so laid back and charming. I also loved Stormalong Bay, and the view across to the Boardwalk was gorgeous!

Re: Yacht , Beach Club or Boardwalk???
Boardwalk! We had a wonderful time staying there. I love the cheery and quiet rooms. We had a great view over into World Showcase and down into a courtyard from our standard room. The walk to MGM and Epcot was great.
