As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!
Best wishes for a wonderful and magical new year!

Black mickey albums
Oh man, I love the black Mickey albums at Archiever's (post bound though and I don't like post bound). The Mickey face is sort of embossed. Anyone seen them?
I decided not to buy one because they said it holds 20 sheets (comes with 10 and then you need to buy more). With the 2002 album I just finished, I used 35 sheets and I just went out and got some white things to put in the binding part because it's so high on the right hand side. That'll be my project tomorrow, to take that dang book all apart again. Did I mention I don't like post bound albums?
3 questions...1) for any of you who've used the post bound Disney albums, can it hold 35 pages? 2) Do I take too many pictures or does the "normal" person only scrap 20 pages? 3) I'm going to start my 2004 trip and plan to put it in that Sandylion post bound album. I bought it over a year ago before I had ever used a post bound album. Do I need to buy the Sandylion page protectors or will any work? Archiever's has them but they're more expensive than the Memory book brand page protectors I can buy at Michael's with the 40% coupon. It seems to me I remember someone saying some refill packs won't work.

<font color="blue">I want that album, I love it.
<font color="red"> 1) for any of you who've used the post bound Disney albums, can it hold 35 pages?
<font color="blue">I belive so. Sue got the blue album with Mickey in the corner, Hers came with 3 extentions.
<font color="red">2) Do I take too many pictures or does the "normal" person only scrap 20 pages?
<font color="blue">No you don't take too many pictures. All the pepole I know who scrap that a ton of them.

<font color="blue">I would get them just so you know they will fit. The book I got for my kitten needs more protecters and the ones we have don't work in it, so off to the Scrap store and I am take the book with me and hopefuly find more protecters.I hope this helps.</font>

Re: Black mickey albums
Thanks Marcie, that all helped, except that if the black mickey album will hold 35 pics, I may have to go back and get it...I love that album. Rats, if only JoAnn or Michael's would get it so I could get it for half off.

Marv -
I like that book too!
And I agree about Joanns and Michaels in regards to the coupon. HOWEVER, I have a small private store in my area and the owner has one day a month that she honors the "competitor" coupons...she also carries that book and can't keep it in stock! SO - you might try with any of the small stores in your area to see if they do that too. BTW, she was selling it for $20... www.mousememories.com had it for $22! SO - although those smaller shops tend to be more pricey, you might get lucky and find one who will honor that Joanns or Michaels coupon!!! Good luck!

Re: Black mickey albums
I've seen that album, and I think it's so cute. 20 pages would be a tight fit for a Disney trip though, I'd probably have to do 2 albums!
I normally use strap-hinge albums from Creative Memories. I did notice on the EK Success website that this Mickey album has side-loading, instead of top-loading page protectors. I'm really interested to see how these work, as I've avoided using top-loading albums because I'm afraid of dust getting into the pages.
I still have to finish my cruise album before I can get to work on the last Disney trip, so I'll wait to make a decision.

I didn't notice the side loading part. That's interesting. I have always used top loading and I guess I never thought about the dust. DS1 is 13 and his album that I started 11 years ago in a top loading format doesn't have dust in the pages. I suppose it could over many years though.

Re: Black mickey albums
I got to take a look at this album in person today at the scrapbook store, and I was really disappointed in the quality. They had a small one in an open pack, and I thought the album seemed kind of cheaply made. I can see why it only holds 20 pages, the binding cover for the spine was only about 2 inches wide. I'll have to rethink what album to use for my Disney vacation - luckily HL has the Sandylion albums 50% off this week, so I'll take a look at those.

Re: Black mickey albums
I keep looking at this album as well every time I'm at Archiver's. It might be ok for a shorter trip to WDW.

Re: Black mickey albums
I'm very dissapointed in the Sandylion Mickey Album and am going to return it tomorrow! I can't only use the 10 pages that it comes with and NO ONE seems to sell the refills for it(been looking for almost a month now!)- even on ebay! How dissapointed! So, my order went to my CM consultant tonight and will get next week. I'm really bummed because I liked the MM on the front. What a cute album! But very dissapointed about the refills....

Re: Black mickey albums
I use Creative Memories albums because I can stuff them full of pages, plus you can get them engraved.
I just got a beautiful engraving done on the front of one of mine that has a Mickey head, Mickey Hand and Castle with "Remember the Magic" below it. I get the spines done too so when they are on a bookshelf I know what volume of Disney it is..
I can take a picture of the album engraving if anyone is interested....

Re: Black mickey albums
I would love to see the engraving Joy. So far all my albums are from CM, but have bought a couple of non-CM ones to use.

Did you check Archiever's web site? I bought refills for that album at our store in Minnesota.

Re: Black mickey albums
Thanks but I already returned it. Way too frustrated in trying to find the refill pages. I got this really cool CM black album with a window on the front that I can put a picture or whatever in it. I wish I had gotten the embossing done but was told they couldn't do Disney because of Trademark rights. Oh, well. I'm very happy with the new one and did six pages of our cruise from May! I'm on my way to getting it done! What a relief!!!
Thanks for the info though. May need it for if I get the Princess album for DD.
