As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!
Best wishes for a wonderful and magical new year!

Re: fanstasmic show
In a word Fantasmic is INCREDIBLE. This in my book is a do not miss. There are villians that overtake Mickey's dream but it's a "edge of your seat, what will happen next" feeling. It is loud though with lots of music, fireworks, lights and such so if loud noises are a problem with your kids, have them don some earplugs and they should be fine.

Re: fanstasmic show
I agree with Donna - Fantasmic is truly not to be missed. It has everything: drama, fantasy, whimsy, humor, and all the spectacle anyone could ever wish for. Although it gets a tad loud, I don't think there's anything in it that would really disturb most children.

Re: fanstasmic show
We saw Fantasmic in September. My dd is 4 years old, and she loved it! IMHO, rush back from Sea World to see this great show.

Re: fanstasmic show
Although I've never seen Fantasmic or been to Sea World, I'm doing both within the next 2 weeks. From what I've read, Sea World is easy to do in 1 day. I think if you get there at opening (9 am), your children should be ready to leave and/or you will have seen it all by early afternoon. Then you'll have plenty of time to get back to WDW for Fantasmic! That's just based on what I've read. Hope you have a great time!

Re: fanstasmic show
I would definitey do Fantasmic. You know your kids the best, but I don't think it would be too scary for them. On one trip I even saw a mother holding what I would guess was a one year old who fell asleep in the middle of it.

Re: fanstasmic show
I just got back from Orlando yesterday, and we did both Sea World and Fantasmic.
My 2-year-old must have said "Oh no!" a dozen times during Fantasmic when the villains are on screen, but she really had a wonderful time and said it was "fun". I did see one or two kids crying, but of course there are thousands of kids in the theatre. It really isn't very scary at all.
Do your kids enjoy watching Disney's animated movies? If your kids can handle watching Monstro, Jafar, Ursula, Maleficent, etc. during the movies, then they shouldn't have any problems watching them in Fantasmic. In fact, I think that many of Disney's movies are scarier than Fantasmic.
We got to Sea World after 11 am and finished just about everything by the time the park closed at 7 pm (on a Saturday, no less). I think that, if you get there at park opening, you'll have done most everything that you want to by the time you leave for Fantasmic. Make sure not to miss the Shamu and sea lion shows -- your kids will really love both of them.

Re: fanstasmic show
While I agree that this is a don't miss show, you need to know if your kids have specific fears that they may need some prep time. When we went for the first time, my youngest (aged 5) was TERRIFIED of fire. When the lagoon catches on fire, she lost it, she spent the rest of the show buried under my arm. After this, every time she saw anything reminiscent of fire, she shut down. She didn't even like Kali River Rapids because of the forest fire scene. Luckily, she outgrew this fear pretty quickly, and by the time she went back at 6, she loved Fantasmic.
If we had known that there was going to be fire and had prepared her, it would have been a much nicer experience for her. You know your children best.

Re: fanstasmic show
This is a GREAT show!!!! One thing I would suggest is to get there early. I don't know
about October but we have been in March & June
and the crowds are huge. We get there an hour
or so early, well worth it. I have the fantasmic
CD & I love pulling it out when I need a dose of
Disney!!! I brought
earplugs for my kid that has a problem with loud
noises. HOPE YOU ENJOY1

Re: fanstasmic show
I agree, you don't want to miss this. Make sure that you can get from Sea World to MGM with an hour or so to spare. I know that seems like a lot, but if you have to get there an hour early, that's proof enough that this is an awesome performance.

Re: fanstasmic show
My only advice is that only you know your children best. When I saw it, I thought it would be very scary for little kids. We have 4 yr old twins, and last year at MK just watching the show at the castle about did them in when they villains appeared. The rest of the trip, they got hysterical if we went anywhere near the castle. We had to detour all over to avoid seeing it because they were so afraid that the villains would be back. This was a surprising reaction, because they are generally such hardy little ones. Seeing a show was definately not worth accidentally creating fears in them that today they still talk about! So, you might want to consider your kids' personalities and how they react to things before you make your final decision...

Re: fanstasmic show
I agree that you need to take your children's individual personalities and fears into consideration. My 7 YO loved every minute of it, but my 5 YO DD was very apprehensive, as she really had a fear of fireworks at the time (it was the noise that bothered her). However, it's not the fireworks at Fantasmic that are loud, but overall it's a loud show. If your children are afraid of the villains, that may be something you want to think about. My DD did end up liking the show and we went back to see it a second time, as the first time she had her face in my shoulder for half the time! Good luck!

Re: fanstasmic show
Hi,
I brought my boys (ages 4 and 2) last year to see Fantasmic, and they are both pretty timid, so I was a little nervous, but...
They both loved it. They were totally into it.
Hope that helps!
