As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!
Best wishes for a wonderful and magical new year!

Level of service in cleaning rooms
We just had a great time during our 5 days at WDW this past week. The one thing that we did notice is that the level of service in cleaning the rooms at CSR appears to have slipped a bit. We try to be reasonably neat before we leave the room, appreciating the hard work of the staff. That being said, a couple of the little things concerned us. We had left the bedspread to the side of the bed and it was still in the same place on the floor when we got back to the room in the evening, for every day of our stay. At AKL last year, the room was maintained much better. The same goes for a glass of water. The half empty (or was it half full?) glass on the table in the room was still there when we got back. I don't know if it's that CSR is understaffed for the size hotel it is, but it's the attention to detail that places WDW way above any other theme parks.

Re: Level of service in cleaning rooms
That's surprising. I would expect the bed to be remade completely and all used glasses replaced every day.
I wouldn't have done anything about it the first day but if those things weren't straightened up the next day I would have addressed the issues.
We didn't notice a difference the last time we stayed there, though I know it took longer in the day for mousekeeping to get to our room (there was a large convention).

I've never had any problems with the rooms. Hopefully, it was an anomaly

Re: Level of service in cleaning rooms
maybe they didn't want to assume that the glass was done with? Can't explain why they'd leave the blanket on the floor, though.

Re: Level of service in cleaning rooms
I worked at a hotel many many moons ago. I will never forget that one of the other housekeepers emptied a glass and put a clean one out, needless to say the guest had contacts in the glass. no note or anything. That was when contacts were alot more expensive.

Re: Level of service in cleaning rooms
I've always been exceptionally pleased with the quality of Mousekeeping I've experienced when staying at WDW. That being said, I do think that experiences can vary a little bit depending on which mousekeeper is doing your room on which days, etc. The only time I every ran into anything even the slightest bit off was one occasion when I felt that Mousekeeping hadn't left us enough towels to suit our needs but a quick call to them immediately rectified the situation. I suggest that, if you ever run into that sort of situation again while staying at WDW, that you call Mousekeeping right away and give them a chance to fix it. If that doesn't work, then speak to the management. I consider it really important to notify someone in charge if something like this crops up and isn't handled because it's only if Disney is made aware of problems, that they can then take steps to rectify them.

Re: Level of service in cleaning rooms
I have to agree with the poster who suggested mousekeeping usually won't assume you're "done" with anything unless it's in the wastebin.
I stay in a lot of hotels because I travel to show my dogs. I can say from experience that even an *empty* beer bottle or water bottle stays *on* the nightstand until I toss it in the wastebin. Ditto for the newspaper you were done reading, the half empty takeout container, a glass (especially if it has even a little liquid in it) etc. An empty glass placed next to the sink is the one that seems to get replaced. I definitely wouldn't risk placing my contacts in the hotel room water glass
I'm sure this is because the hotel doesn't want you storming down the the front desk saying "those leftovers were my dinner!" LOL
As far as the bed making goes, though, that doesn't sound right at all.

Re: Level of service in cleaning rooms
Yeah I can understand the glass of water, but the bedspread is suprising. When we stayed at POR last Dec. we were very pleased. Our mousekeeper even went so far as to put my DH's dirty clothes in a WDW laundry bag for us. (I had put mine in a bag I had brought, but I guess I missed his !) So anybody that picks up after my DH is doing a great job in my book

Re: Level of service in cleaning rooms
We never had a real problem with mousekeeping during our last stay. The only problem was we either had no towels ( a call to housekeeping took care of that) or we had more towels than we could ever use.

Re: Level of service in cleaning rooms
We have always had great service. Our mousekeeper did the cute towel puppets, stuffed animals arranged neatly - and even went so far as to toilet paper the room that last day/night we were going to be there at PO riverside.
When dh and i where at POFQ for honeymoon it was the same except less kid stuff - but wonderful experience
we are staying at the contemp - in oct and hope hope hope we have the same experience!

Re: Level of service in cleaning rooms
I was pleased with mousekeeping when we stayed in Movies and Sports. My last trip to POFQ in July I was not pleased with the room the first day. I dropped the lid to my deodorant and in looking for it I lifted the dust ruffle on my bed to find a pair of sunglasses and what looked like a pair of dirty kids socks under the bed. Under my dd's bed dust ruffle was a used bandaid. I called mousekeeping and they said they would put it on the notice for the mousekeepers the next day. I thought they should have come out then to clean up but whatever, I dropped the dust ruffle and tryed to forget about it. The next day they were gone and the room was clean and there was a towel bird in between the sinks (which is now in my bathroom at home).
