As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!
Best wishes for a wonderful and magical new year!

I\'m dying here......
I am trying to decide where to eat (with the free MYW) and that also means deciding what parks to do. It's very overwhelming. I've more or less decided NOT to do EMH, at least not more than once or twice. So that more or less eliminates the EMH parks as choices...I only have the other 3 to choose from each day!!! I've made one PS for 8/27 at WCC. That's it. Also I will most likely be buying DS's meals as he doesn't seem to like any of the choices on the menus!! I'm usually not faced with so many decisions so early on!!! Help!!!

Re: I\'m dying here......
Are you looking for suggestions of new places to try? If so, where have you eaten before? Do you want to do some character meals during your stay? Do the restaurants have to be in the parks, as there are some excellent restaurants at resorts - Boma springs to mind for example.
If you give us some more idea about what you're looking for, then I know we'll be able to help you out.

Re: I\'m dying here......
I've already booked WCC, Chef Mickey's & Le Cellier. I'm also thinking about Coral Reef. (A lot of Epcot) It's not so much finding places to eat it's the idea that I have to have my itinerary planned exactly, now. I mean, if I have a dinner planned at Epcot I need to be there or be able to get there easily. I don't want to have to criss-cross the world just to eat. If we have a meal at Chef Mickey's I don't want to be at AK that day. I mean, I will if I have to but it would be easier to have meals near the place we are going to be at on a given day. It's a lot of time on buses. Like if we eat at TOny's I want to be at MK.
The problem with that is that DH doesn't like me to micro-manage his vacation. What I do is decide where we won't be on a given day (i.e. maybe we decide we won't do any EMH's so that rules that park out) and then we decide day to day based on some other things as well. Does that make any sense? he gets nuts when I try to schedule everything down to the last second. But I'm worried if I go no PS then we won't be able toeat w/o long waits!
It's a little frustrating. i've never been on the meal plan before but I guess a little frustration is worth free food!

Yeah, that's what we dicided too!
Will you have the hopper option on your tickets? I know you don't want to "criss-cross" all the time - but that would make a difference.
Because this will be our 3rd trip to the world in 18 months, we decided to pick our dining and set up around that - mind you, we haven't assigned days yet as we are still about 3 weeks out from making our ADRs (PS). Since all of our planned dinners are either at Epcot or the MK area (including the Poly, and Cont.) we will probably be spending more mornings at AK and/or DS. This will work out well since MK and Epcot are both usually open later. Our only other concern will be making sure we can fit Fantasmic! in too!
Enjoy your planning!

Re: I\'m dying here......
Mamapajama ( that name!) I am definetly feeling your pain...see the post I made in this forum! It's tough to please everyone...my dh always fusses as I make our plans, but he's GREAT on our trips. He just thinks he knows better, & he always tells me that I do a great job, so I usually ignore his pre trip complaints! I'm so confused!

The great thing with our planning is that we know where we're eating on a given day, but how we get there is totally flexible. Go to Epcot early, then to 'Ohana, then to MK or vice versa. The planning your day around your dining is a great way to have some structure but some flexibility too.

Re: I\'m dying here......
I have to admit that I always plan our days around our meal plans. The first thing I work out is where we want to eat and then I start deciding which days I want to eat at each place and go from there. As a lot of our choices are usually in Epcot and that's our favourite park, it works really well for us.

Re: I\'m dying here......
We'll be using our AP's so hopping is not a problem (saving the 1 day passes for upgrade to our next AP!) It's just committing to what we are going to do in September, now. I don't even have plane tickets yet & I'm picking out restaurants!! LOL

Thomas? are we supposed to have plane tickets BEFORE we pick out restaurants? OOPS!
Seriously, I think you are doing great - and it will all work out - I think we'll end up just assigning meals to days based on when we can get our "tough" times - (Cindy's, Le Cellier) and go from there. Unfourtunately, I doubt we'll have a EMH schedule in concrete before we do that - but I also feel confident we could change most of our times later except for the above two.

Re: I\'m dying here......
I wouldn't stress about it. Then dining plan has restaurants in each park and in the hotels near the parks. You could plan 2 ways... Pick you restaurants first (like Cheryl) and then plan your park days around them... or pick your parks and then plan your restaurants. Keep the resort restaurants in mind too. When your at Animal Kingdom, you could hop over to the AKL and eat at Boma... Epcot and MGM are very close to the Boardwalk, Yacht and Beach Clubs and the MK is just a monorail away from the Contemporary, Polynesian and Grand Floridian.

Elise, I just did this last night. It was a totally new way to plan my vacation. We normally do mostly CS with only one or two table service, so having the opportunity to pick the eating places was stressful but fun. DH's eyes were glazed over after reading so many menus last night and he finally said, "You just pick them out. I don't care." So, maybe that was a good strategy, ha, ha!
Luckily, I had 2 table service places already picked out so I just kept those on the same days. The next one I added was Alfredo's because I've always longed to try their fettucini alfredo and veal picatta (I'm doing the happy dance just thinking about it). I've never indulged myself like that. I usually tell myself not to spend the $ on myself, but hey, it's free! Then I added Calif. Grill because that's something I'd never do without the dining plan. The counter service were easy to plug in on the other days. We're not going to be on the dining plan as many days as you are, though, so I think that's why it was easy for me. I'm having so much fun. By looking at the menus and guessing what each person would order, I've figured we are getting about 700.00 worth of food. All I can say is, WOW!!!!

Michelle, you've made some wonderful choices there - especially the California Grill, that's a superb place to eat.
