As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!
Best wishes for a wonderful and magical new year!

Re: MVMCP suggestions ..please!
I've never been there before, but I will be there on Dec. 3rd. I think we are going to do all the special Holiday stuff and not worry too much about riding on the rides. We will see the holiday shows, see the Country Bears holiday show, the Horseshoe christmas show, maybe ride Dumbo with the santa hats, watch the special parade, eat cookies and drink cocoa and watch it snow on Main Street. If we get to ride a lot of rides too, that will be great.

Re: MVMCP suggestions ..please!
Hi, everyone,
We’re probably be going to the MVMCP on the 8th as well. We were there for the MVMCP back in 1996 and 1998. These are just few things off the top of my head from the two previous trips, but things may have changed since then.
1 – Get there early. We tried both times, once from the Dixie Landing and once from Chef Mickey, but the bus/trams was surprisingly crowded and slow.
2 – Take your free family picture early. Before you or the kids get tired or the hair is all messed up after the back to back to back ride on the Splash Mountain. Short lines.
3 – Most people congregate on main street at 7 PM since the holiday lights/trees/artificial “snow” (bubbles) is very captivating, so make haste to the back of the park for the mountain rides.
4 – They should have 2 parades. The second one attracts fewer people, so stay on the rides during the first.
5 – Drink your free hot cocoa right before the fireworks (11 PM?) at the eatery between main street and tomorrowland, so you can be warm and cozy and rest up during the show.
6 - It used to run until 1 AM, but I guess they’ve shortened the party by 1 hour in that it closes at 12 midnight now.
7 – Hope the weather is good. In 1996, it rained the morning of the party and the sky was cloudy all day. So when they shot the fireworks up into the sky, we saw absolutely nothing. You can hear it go "boom", but that’s about it.
That’s what I can think of for now. Let me know if anyone has any specific questions.

Re: MVMCP suggestions ..please!
Omigosh, I'm so jealous! I was there last year, it was actually pretty deserted the night that we went.
1. Don't miss the shows. They have storytellers around the park.
2. Cinderella's coach was on display and we got a couple great shots of it, you don't see it very often.
3. Don't forget to get your free photo.
4. There are eateries open in case you don't do dinner first. We had dinner at 1900 Park Fare and it was just a hop, skip and a jump back to the MK.
5. The 'snow'(really tiny bubbles) on Main Street is so cool, it snowed all night when we were there. It also snows at DTD and in MGM on New York Street and on Main street in Celebration, Disney's city. See it if you have the time, it is fab.
6. The fireworks go off all around you so there really isn't a bad spot. But, you might want to get a good one where you can see Rudolph fly out of the castle.
7. Have a really great time!!
Richard at DTD
Don't you just love this POOH photo op?

Re: MVMCP suggestions ..please!
We'll be there on the 3rd, too - see you there....
We also plan to bring lots of film to have our pictures taken with the characters who are dressed in Christmas outfits. It was one of the only times we saw Donald Duck last year.
Just enjoy the moment and get yourself in the Christmas spirit and enjoy the music, the sights and the magic.
Have fun!

Re: MVMCP suggestions ..please!
Hi Sam,
My main suggestion is to make sure the kids get plenty of nap time that afternoon. This is a long evening and packed with activities. They can tire quickly especially with wait times everywhere at a crowded night.
Your main gridlocks will be with the entry into the park and the line up for the first parade. If you think your little ones can stay up that late, aim for the second parade. If not, when you enter, make your way past the packed Mainstreet crowd and head to Liberty Square and Frontierland to get a spot. Even those places go quickly.
Some people are lucky to get a dinner reservation late in the day at a sitdown restaurant like the Liberty Tree Tavern and Tony's. Although I haven't done this myself, I understand you can time this to be in the park when Mickey's Party opens. You have to obtain your bracelets for the event and have all your tickets on you, but this is a strategy to avoid the crush of the opening. These reservations are hard to get, though, as this strategy has now been widely discussed on many planning boards.
Another entry strategy is to get on your resort busses to MK about 6:00 p.m., arriving at 6:30 about the time they let the crowds in.
Get the photo taken in the back of Tomorrowland. Skip the cocoa and cookies altogether if the lines are atrocious.
Most of the shows can be seen throughout the week in MK during the day. Check your park guides and plan to catch them then. Your children will love Mickey's Twas the Night Before Christmas, shown in Tomorrowland, and Belle's Enchanted Christmas, shown in Fantasyland. The Country Bears show runs daily.
If you relax, don't try to get it all in and just enjoy the holiday nighttime atmosphere, you will have a good time. Good luck and I hope the whole family has a wonderful vacation!

We do have a dinner reservation at LTT for 6:00 and we are not doing the park that day, so we will be in nice and early!
