Forums Closed
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.

So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.

Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.

And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.

We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.

There are other changes as well.

Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:

We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.

It's time to move on and move forward.

PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.

But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.

So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.

And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.

That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.

Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!

If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.

So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

Best wishes for a wonderful and magical new year!

Re: Richard & Pat\'s Myrtle Beach Adventure-Day 4 up

Who
Me: Wondcat or as the kids like to call me Pat, Pat the Wondercat
DH: Golfguy, loving and supporting husband of 30 years and very understanding of my love for another man, Mickey!
What
Christmas trip to Myrtle Beach
Where
Ocean Dunes Hotel
When
First week of December

Now, I neglected to mention that Richard was playing golf every morning. After all this was his golf trip. The first day I said oh, Honey you take the car, I am going to stay at the resort and have a massage or a pedicure or something. So, off he went. I went to the front desk and asked about the amenities.

In our brochure, that the nice young man who booked our ressies sent me, it said that they had a waterpark and massages etc. So, I was ready! Well, the front desk said that the Concierge was off that day, the waterpark was closed for the season, I thought that it was inside, it was outside! That they didn’t do massages there, but their sister resort next door did. So, off I went. Into the massage area, clearly marked on the door, I might add, and the man at the desk said, we don’t do that here. I showed him the brochure and he said, well, you have to call the number on the brochure and go there. Well, I was astounded! Me without a car!

I had remembered seeing a nail salon on the main road so I decided to walk the few blocks to the highway. It was very hot that day; the damn waterpark could have been open! I was sweating like a pig and got to the main road and walked in what I thought was the direction of the nail salon and walked and walked and finally turned up the first road and went back to the hotel. As I was walking in front of the hotel I noticed the waterpark, which was under construction. I was very disappointed and very hot. I went into the lobby and surprise the Concierge was there, I stopped to ask about massages and pedicures and she said that it was seasonal. She also said there was a nail salon just a short walk away. I told her i had taken that short walk and didn't find it. I walked to the beach and walked around on it for awhile, then I walked to the pool and spent some time sitting there reading and soaking my feet, wishing for a headset. Because the sign posted there said no radios allowed. I finally got up and went to the room and decided that I would try out the hot tub. It was open and no one was there so I sat on the edge and soaked my feet some more, longing for that pedicure. Then I went back to the room and Richard came back and we headed back off to Best Buy. On the way, I noticed the nail salon, in the other direction of the one that I had walked, oh well.

At Best Buy. the salespeople were extremely nice there and even let him go online to try to download the maps that he needed, but it didn’t work for some reason and I bought a portable CD with headset and we left. We had some time to kill so we stopped at Booksamillion and browsed for a while. I got some great new Burt’s bees hand cream and a couple of books. We headed off to the Parson’s table for dinner.

This was such a beautiful restaurant, you could definitely tell that it had once been a church. We started off with a cheese and cracker plate that is given to everyone. Then I had the She-crab soup and Richard had Mussels for our appetizers, then we both had the house salad, which was delicious. Then we had beef consommé to cleanse our palates. They also served us delicious homemade bread and rolls. Richard had the Baby back ribs and I had Veal and Shrimp Bombay with the wine paring. Then we had dessert, he had a Sundae and I had Chocolate Chip pecan pie, yum! Then we waddled to the car and went back to the hotel.

I went for a swim in the pool, indoor, and then we went to bed. Here is a photo of the Parson’s table and the menu.

Tomorrow: I’ll take you to the golf course myself!

Re: Richard & Pat\'s Myrtle Beach Adventure-Day 5 up

Who
Me: Wondcat or as the kids like to call me Pat, Pat the Wondercat
DH: Golfguy, loving and supporting husband of 30 years and very understanding of my love for another man, Mickey!
What
Christmas trip to Myrtle Beach
Where
Ocean Dunes Hotel
When
First week of December

After being stuck in the not so great hotel the day before, I decided that I would take Richard to the golf course and go shopping. The last time that I was there I went to Barefoot landing, a really neat shopping center and I was anxious to go back. They had a great Christmas store there, you all know that Christmas is my downfall. I love Christmas and anything to do with it. The also have a vast supply of Anna Lee mobility dolls and they are another of my weaknesses. So off we went.

Richard said that the golf course was nearby the Parson’s Table so we took off in that direction. Pretty soon we saw a water tower that looked like a big golf ball on a big tee so we knew we were close. We drove up to the tee and into the course, there were little rectangular ponds in the middle of the road with ducks and lots of turtles sunning themselves on rocks. I dropped him off and turned around to go back to Barefoot landing.

On the way to the course, I had noticed a sign that said Outlet Center, so I decided to stop there first. I pulled into what was a huge shopping center, like the old ones before malls. So that all of the stores were outside and not enclosed and it was a lovely warm day. The parking lot was almost empty, it was still quite early and I noticed a little group of arrows and a mailbox, so I parked there because I knew that I would remember it.

I saw a sign for a Coach store and since it was near my niece, Heather’s birthday, I thought that I would go in and have a look. She is a Coach fiend, but it is usually just too expensive for my taste. I found her a really cute plaid purse and change purse to match at a pretty reasonable price. So, I got them for her along with a lipstick case for me. As I left there, I started to feel a blister rising on the sole of my foot. I can walk in WDW for days and not get a blister, but here I get a blister. Of course, I was wearing my new Birkenstocks and although I’ve never gotten a blister from Birks before, well there was that once in Epcot, but they were new too and I was fine with a pair of Minnie socks.

I spied A Sketchers store, another favorite of mine and went in and got a pair of new clog tennis shoes and some socks and hurried on my way.

I saw a Perfumerie and went in to browse, the saleslady said may I help you and I said probably not, no one ever has my perfume, Pheremone, and she said we do and it’s on sale. So, of course I had to buy a bottle. I went on a little further, I did some more browsing and window shopping. I went into a little store, they had beautiful magnetic bracelets. I used to wear one all the time for the Arthritis in my knee, but I had to stop. The catch was magnetic and I kept picking up razor blades at work. I couldn’t understand where they were coming from until I found out that our Pro shop uses them to cut the fingerholes in the bowling balls. The Pro kept leaving them lying around and I kept finding them. Thank God they could only be picked up by the dull edge or I would have slit my wrists long ago. Anyway, these had the magnets inside the bracelet, so I got one. They also had this adorable dog on a swing. He is about a foot high and his ears look like they are blowing in the breeze and he is grinning and I had to have him.

About this time I saw a sign for snowmen, if you had purchased a certain out of items on one day for a certain amount of money you could get one free. Well, snowmen are another of my vices, so I got two. I was starting to get hot, it was quite warm and my bags were getting heavy. I bought a drink and headed to the car to put my bags away. I walked up and down the whole damn parking lot. I couldn’t find my car. I saw the arrows and the mailbox and I kept looking and I started to sweat. People were starting to look at me, I must have looked crazed. One lady said are you lost and I said yes or my car is. I said that is the main road over thee isn’t it and she said yes. So I kept looking. Finally, I said to my self, self you are not insane, there must be parking on the other side of the shopping center and you are on the wrong side. I stopped a couple and asked them about this and they said yes and the “other” main road is on that side. So, I trudged back through the shopping center to the other side and there sat my little car waiting for me.

By then, I had had enough and I still wanted to go to Barefoot landing so I got in the car and drove there. I was just as I remembered it. It is a sprawling shopping center, which includes a House of Blues and Alligator Adventure. I went into The Christmas mouse and started to look around. I wanted to find ornaments for the girls. I have bought each of my girls at least one ornament a year since the day they were born. This way when they had their own Christmas trees, they would have ornaments. This year I wanted to get Alissa one for her new house and Mandy one for her new dog. So, I found a cute Santa holding a little house and a big dog head that looked just like Shaggy, not the new dog but too cute to pass up. I headed upstairs to the Anna Lee section. This store is so huge and I wanted to look at just everything, but it was hot in there. I kept looking and sweating and looking and sweating and finally I went back downstairs. I said to the lady, it is like a sauna in here and she said yes and for free! I paid for my stuff and left it was just too damn hot in there. I headed back to the wooden deck part of the landing and was just shocked to find everything was closed. Apparently, this is a seasonal thing and I was really disapointed. I went into the dog bakery that was open and got some treats for my dogs. I noticed that it was starting to get close to the time that I thought Richard would be getting finished so I headed back to the golf course. Of course I missed the turn to the big tee and had to turn around and go back. He was just getting finished when I got there. So we hopped in the car and headed back toward the hotel.

Re: Richard & Pat\'s Myrtle Beach Adventure-finished

Who
Me: Wondcat or as the kids like to call me Pat, Pat the Wondercat
DH: Golfguy, loving and supporting husband of 30 years and very understanding of my love for another man, Mickey!
What
Christmas trip to Myrtle Beach
Where
Ocean Dunes Hotel
When
First week of December

OK, the wedding is over and life is just about back to normal. I should have finished this before because now it is getting harder to remember everything. I needed a Passporter, Myrtle Beach.

Anyway, we passed a mall and Richard said want to stop? So we did, we went into Books a Million; we were there for what seemed like hours. We both bought books and they had this huge Burt's Bees display. I love their products and bought a new hand cream. They had a map of Santa's flight so I bought one in anticipation of grandchildren someday.

We left there and decided that it was time for dinner, so we went to Outback, Richard's favorite place. He had a steak and his favorite sweet potato and I had the Toowoomba Pasta, it was great. Lots of seafood in an Alfredo sauce. Actually, after we got back, we went to Outback one night and I ordered it here. It was so spicy that I couldn't even eat it. Isn't amazing what different regions and chefs do? We wanted to stop at the bowling alley bar again, but we were tired so we went back to the hotel.

Mandy had bought me bath stuff from WDW so I took a bath with a Mickey bath bomb and when I got out Richard was asleep. I stayed up for a while and watched some TV and read a little.

The next morning; our last day, check out was at 11:00, so we got up and had breakfast.
Breakfast was included every morning. It was a nice buffet of just about everything, plus omelets or eggs made to order and all the fixins’. I enjoyed eating by myself looking at the ocean on the days that I was alone. I also enjoyed eating with Richard.
Then we went back up to finish packing. Did I mention that we did have a terrific ocean view, we were on the third floor and it was just beautiful and the wave sound at night just lulled me to sleep.

We packed up the car and started out, it was raining, so no golf that day. We decided to get a jump on our return home and we did want to stop at South of the Border again to get fireworks for July 4th and sparklers for the wedding, that we didn’t use.

So we drove and drove and drove, we got to S o B and got fireworks, I went into the Antique store and bought the cutest gingerbread cookie ornaments ever! We got some coffee and drove some more. All the while it was just pouring. We got off the road to get gas and to get something to eat. We stopped at, Oh man, that place with the staff on roller skates, what is it called? We don’t have them here. I got a coconut shake and a burger and DH got a coke and a burger.

On we drove in the pouring rain. It took us two hours to get from Virginia to DC and by then, it was rush hour. We stopped in Dc for dinner t a nice little Mexican restaurant, I had Fajitas I don’t remember what DH had. So we got in the car and drove on. By the time we got home it was midnight, we pulled up and saw Mandy & Ryan locking the door. They had brought the dogs home for us, but they didn’t see us what with the rain and all and they got away before we even had a chance to say hi. Then it was all over and we were being licked all over by the three little devils.

So, I guess our next trip will be really close to home. Alissa and Don gave us a trip for their wedding. A certificate for a bed and breakfast in Havre de grace, MD, the Vandiver Inn.

Well, that’s all folks, oops, wrong animation studio!

Great tr, Pat! I grew up in a little town about 40 miles from Myrtle Beach, so it was fun reading about your trip. I even ate at The Parson's Table once - - I think almost 20 years ago!

And now you have me wanting to go to Outback!
