As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!
Best wishes for a wonderful and magical new year!

Re: Hershey Park
Another good time to go is the end of May into the First week of June since schools don't let out until about the 2nd week. We live about 8 miles from the park and this is usually when we go. Other than the occasional school group the park is not very crowded and there is almost no wait for most of the rides. The park can be done in less than a day. As far as hotels go there is everything from the mom & pop to the national chain. If you fly into Philadelphia it is about a 2-2 1/2 hr drive. Other places of interest might be the Civil War Museum, PA Fire Museum, Indian Echo Caverns, Knoebels Grove Amusement Park (free admission, pay as you ride), Pennsylvania Grand Canyon, Boyd's Bear Country, Baltimore's Inner harbor is about 90 mins away. Depending on time of year there is Hershey Bears hockey (affiliate of the Colorado Avalanche) and Harrisburg Senators baseball (affiliate of the new Washington DC team).

Re: Hershey Park
Thanks for that Melissa. I didn't know Lancaster was different than the Philadelphia area.
Also, thanks for the show price clarification. I have no idea where I got 12$ from, but now that I think about it, it was 5$. Thanks again I appreciate it, sorry guys!

Re: Hershey Park
When I was in college, my parents and I drove down to the Lancaster/York area from Upstate NY and stayed in York and Lancaster for about 4 days (I think in a Super 8 Motel). We went in April, so a lot of things, like Gettysburg battlefields and Hershey Park weren't open, but I do remember the Hershey Visitor's Center and the factory tour (you get free kisses at the end-yum!). We also toured the Eisenhower farm, visited some Amish towns, ate an Amish dinner and toured the Andersen pretzel factory. Lots of neat stuff to do in the area, and I'm sure it would be even better "in season" when more is open. Happy planning!

Re: Hershey Park
There's some nice parks in the Hersheypark area. In Lancaster about 30 minutes away, you can visit Dutch Wonderland. It's more for kids, but the wooden roller coaster the Sky Princess is a lot of fun. Drive about 3 hours north and go to Knoebel's in Elysburg, PA. It's like a country fair mixed with a campground. It has a great wooden coaster with lots of airtime called the Phoenix. The park also has the fastest and best bumper cars in the world.
If you're going to Hersheypark, hit Storm Runner first if you want to ride it. Lines get very long on this awesome ride. Also remember to ride the best wooden coaster there -- Lightning Racer. Wildcat is good if you like sitting in a jackhammer!

Re: Hershey Park
We were just in Hershey this past summer and have never done Hershey Park, but enjoy the "free" portion, visitor center, buy lots of chocolate area. They have a thing now where the kids can actually become a "worker" and fill a gear box thingy with kisses. Then you can buy it! It really was fun. I thought the 3-D movie wasn't worth it, but I have trouble with 3-D anyway. There is also a zoo right there that was very nice.
A few years ago, we did the same trip, but also went to the Crayola "factory" which was a *blast* for all ages! We really enjoyed that trip.
Then, flashback to my childhood, there is Roadside America which sounds and looks like one of those campy 50s tourist attractions from the highway, but it is a *WONDERFUL*, huge model railroad setup that is sooo COOL! So much so that I remember it clearly from when I was about 4 yo. We took DDs and it hadn't changed much at all. You can walk around and see a whole town/community and there are several places where you can push buttons to activate portions of the trains/set. They have a patriotic presentation (I think every hour) that is not to be missed...take Kleenex! There is a clock museum in the area, too, that is a wee bit "high-brow", but we enjoyed it, too. My dad's hobby is clock repair, so we took some time there. The Wilton Armetale factory store is in the area, too, so if you like that, take some $$$ with you!
We stayed at a suite hotel right out of Hershey (marriott, maybe?) at an excellent rate, very nice place, and convenient to Hershey and the highway (for all the other places we went). Between all that and the Amish areas, there is plenty to keep you busy for a week or so!!!

Re: Hershey Park
about the Storm Runner - that was an awesome roller coaster! The tallest and fastest in the world, but it's going to be bea this spring by Kingda Ka, the new roller coaster at Six Flags Great Adventure in Jersey. The one year we don't get season passes they add an awesome ride, lmao! Anyway, another great thing about going at the time of year that we did (last week of August - first week of September) was that there was absolutely NO line on the Storm Runner at 2:00 in the afternoon! We walked right on!
We also went to Roadside America on our first two trips. It's really cute and a lot of fun! It's a HUGE train set which is set up around a miniature village. As you walk around the track you can push buttons to activate different trains and different parts of the village - you can make street lights come on and off, move cars, etc. It's really cute!
