As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!
Best wishes for a wonderful and magical new year!

Who\'s afraid of ToT?
I was just wondering who "went for it" and rode ToT even though they were scared? Did you get over your fear, or not?
I, for one, feel like I like I have ridden ToT and Alien Encounters enough. But I have ridden them! I do hope my boyfriend tries them out once, as the effects are great.
So, who did it?

Re: Who\'s afraid of ToT?
I have to raise my hand on this one! I am not actually a true ride person but do enjoy doing ToT now that I gave it a second chance. The first time ever on this ride I had the back center seat with only a seat belt, no safety bar to hold onto! DID NOT LIKE THIS....AT ALL! When I got off the ride I swore I would never go on it again, but a CM over heard me say this (actually quite a few people heard me say this ) and told me to try it again but to inform the CM at the elevator not to place me in that seat.... well I tried it and it was sooooo much better!
This last trip I even tackled RnR! First time through with eyes shut... second time through it was great! Yup, I had FEAR!

The fear is always there for me, but I love it! It's by far my favorite ride.

Re: Who\'s afraid of ToT?
Kinda funny thing about that center seat on ToT. I got it accidentally once, and was more than a little scared before the drops, 'cause it seems so much less secure than the other seats. You've got this big, empty aisle in front of you (instead of a seat or wall) so you don't feel as protected, and all you have is this little, ordinary lap belt, instead of that big, husky lap bar. You also don't have something in front of you to hold onto, and that's also a pretty insecure feeling. You can reach over and hold the lap bars on either side, but it's not quite the same.
I agree that the lap bar on the other seats gives you a greater sense of security. It's huge, easy to grab onto, and just plain instills confidence. But, I've been on ToT when the lap bar hasn't been down tight on my lap (other riders beside me with bigger laps, I guess). This leaves a little "play", and you actually rise out of your seat a little during the drops. On the other hand, you can fasten that seat belt in the middle seat as tight as you want.
In the end, while the anticipation was worse in the center seat, I actually felt more secure during the drops, 'cause I was strapped down tight. At this point I'd be willing to sit in any of the seats, but I still prefer to be in the back or middle row--I like to see all those other people going through the same thing I am. There's safety in numbers.

Re: Who\'s afraid of ToT?
You know I never even considered ToT. I'm just not into that free-fall thing, which is what it sounded like to me. However, after this last trip, I'm thinking the next time I go back, I might try it out!
As far as that Alien ride, FORGET ABOUT IT! I will never, as long as I live go on that thing again. My ex wanted to do it last summer, and I had reservations, but did it anyway, and just about cried I was SOOOO scared!!!!!!!!!!!!! I actually got chills walking past it last week! NO THANK YOU!

Re: Who\'s afraid of ToT?
I have been on TOT once because my DH wouldn't let me get the T-Shirt unless I actually rode the thing, but once was more than enough. Actually, I would have liked the ride very much if it hadn't been for the drops! LOL! Now, with more drops, you can be sure that I'll be taking the coward's elevator every time on our next trip!

Re: Who\'s afraid of ToT?
I am the daredevil in our family. I was shocked when my 8 year old son (who's afraid of most rides) decided he wanted to ride it! I was thrilled, of course, but very surprised. But that wasn't all. I figured he would ride it once, but that would be it. (He rode some other rides once and said "I'm NEVER riding that again!") I never forced him on anything, I let him decide.
Well, guess what?? He wanted to ride it 5 more times before we left! It was his favorite ride! Go figure!
So if my chicken (but a sweet chicken) eight year old son will ride it...well, you decide for yourself. No pressure!

Re: Who\'s afraid of ToT?
Me!! I just can not stand heights. I only rode a roller coaster once. That was when I was dating my wife and I did not want to look like a chicken! Now that I have been married to her for 20 years I don't care if I look like a chicken.

I'm not scared to ride ToT, and am actually looking forward to the increased number of drops. (I will admit though, even though I love the ride, I still get a few butterflies...)

The ToT is great, really afraid the first
time, but you must try it, then decide if
you will ride it again or not.

Re: Who\'s afraid of ToT?
I am really "deathly" afraid of heights (I threw up from a 200ft scoffolding rig)...but to brave it for my then 9yo daughter, I agreed to go on ToT (pulled, yanked, conived)
After my whole life passed before my eyes, I realized that nobody around me had noticed my weakness. I loved it. We went back into line and rode again.
However, in Oct. when we go again I may have to be bribed do to the Tot again. (I have time to think about it!!) It's always fun to face your fears with the disney magic behind it!

Re: Who\'s afraid of ToT?
You know I have to say that in all the years of living close to Six Flags Great America in Gurnee, ILL I am a roller coaster "finatic!" I mean I just love them .. and in fact and I'm totally serious ... i don't even FEEL the drops on the roller coasters anymore .. why? I don't know why!! I think because I'm so used to them and I have so much fun "enjoying" them instead of being scared! Now I remember full well of being "scared" when I was younger and "feeling" those DROPS that made your stomach jump up in your throat ... but not anymore .... UNTIL THE TOWER OF TERROR! On that ride you DEFINITELY feel the drop because instead of being on somewhat of an angle like roller coasters .. it is STRAIGHT down and boy does my stomach get that "feeling" once again and you know what? I LOVE IT! Its always cool because the first time on it I'm always a bit "nervous" -- then after that I'm like -- put me anywhere ... front... back .. center seat... and there I am everytime waiting for the part that takes your picture and I'm waving and smiling away and I'm just having a good ol' time! I guess I have "no fears" (well I still won't try skydiving or bungee jumping ... )! Anyway hope you all have wonderful trips!!!!

Re: Who\'s afraid of ToT?
I am a coaster fan, having grown up not too far from Cedar Point, coaster cap. of the world, but I don't enjoy being dropped straight down either! When my DH and I rode ToT in '94 we really enjoyed it, though I was very, very scared of the drop. Now that they have changed the # of drops at the end I am a little more apprehensive. Nothing like being scared all over again, and again, and again! How many drops are there now?!
