Forums Closed

As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

Earliest spring break you have heard of for 2005?
I googled this and the earliest date for spring break 2005 was March 14th. (Which is a Monday, so technically I guess it would start on March 12th.)
Have any of you seen any earlier? Does anyone know what the average is?

Earliest spring break you have heard of for 2005?
Since Easter is SO early this year, March 27th, I imagine they'll be spread all over the place. My stepdaughter is off the week after Easter. She's up in PA. Our kids have early release on Friday April 1st and are out the following week which is the same as my nephew in Dunwoody (Atlanta area) GA.

Just checked my family's calendar from The University of Memphis and they are out March 7-13. I'm teaching in DeSoto County, MS and we have that March 14 week. Of course, the U of M is through with the semester the first week of May!

My in-laws are in St. Louis and MIL works at a high school there . . . their Spring Break starts March 14th (so really, Saturday the 12th). It is the same week here in Pensacola.
My family is in Oregon and the school my mother works at starts Spring Break on March 21st (so Saturday the 19th  It is the same week for the schools in the Orlando area!!! |

Just remember that schools in the Northeast take two breaks - one the 3rd or 4th week of February - so this year, that will end on March 6th. Then they get another week in April, also the 3rd or 4th week. So the end of February is pretty booked up with us Northern Disney fans!

Well, it looks like we might miss the biggest crowds, except maybe for Saturday, March 12th, but it's my dd's 4th birthday, so I don't care how crowded it is, we will go to MK on that day. Thanks for all the input!

I know in Vermont and New Hampshire (at least where my cousins live) they have winter break at the end of February. I think it is the last week in February. Then they have Spring break sometime in April. I think the third week. College Spring Breaks are usually the first or second week in March. Private schools are different though. One of my college roommates went to boarding school for HS and she got the entire month of March off from school.

We are in VA and our kids get Spring break the week after Easter as well. We'll be at WDW then too!  |

I'm a teacher and let me tell you that last year we only had 3 students out of 175 in our 7th grade class that took their vacation over Spring Break! We had 27 go on between 5-15 day vacations and most took them the second week of Feb. through the second week of March. Most of the rationale's I heard was that the family went to aviod the tradional Spring Break crowds or because they got a good deal for the week they went. Try to keep track of who's going where when and for how long and what work they needed! A different one left every other day!

You see this is why we try to avoid taking vacations during the school year. For one, no teacher should have to gather work for a student(s) so they can keep up. Poor teacher has enough to do with all her other duties. And also I just don't want my kids missing out on what they would have learned in the classroom that week. I have had a kid out sick with the flu last year (she was one of those that had a bad case and even went to the ER for IV's) for over a week and even with her teacher graciously sending home work, my child fell behind. This was a hard blow to my otherwise honor roll student.
WE plan on letting them miss 3 days max at the end of their spring break as we travel back to our state, but thats it. It really is a personal choice and one that has different benefits for each family. I'd love for my kids to go in November, but am afraid that Mickey will have to wait so his little people become smart Disney citizens! |
