I really need idiot proof instructions on how to post a picture. First of all, can I change the file size of a picture, if so how do I do this. All the pictures I have are about 297,000 bytes i think.
Then what do I do with the picture once it is downsized.
Any help would be great. Thanks

As for reducing the size of the picture, let me know what photo editing program you have and I'll try to help...

Here's the instructions on how to upload and post a picture...

Remember to make your pictures small enough to comply with the board guidelines, 400 x 400 pixels max for uploaded photos and 35k max for pictures size.

First, you must upload it to somewhere other than on your computer. If you'll generate a message in The Driveway: Testing Grounds, titling it "uploading photo", then click on the continue button (making sure the the box for "I want to preview my post and/or attach a photo" is clicked).

Now, at the next screen, just above the continue button, is a box where you can enter the location of the picture on your computer where the photo is located. If you don't remember where it is, or aren't sure of the actual address, click on the browse button and find the file. Once you have the proper info entered in this box, click continue.

The next screen you will come to will show an attachment to the message at the top. Click on the word attachment (which should be underlined) and your picture should open and be seen. In the address bar of internet explorer, highlight and copy the complete address there (either using the right mouse click then copy or using ctrl-c), this is the address you will enter to place the photo, whether in your signature or in the body of the text.

Click on continue again and that message will go to the board.

If this photo is for your signature, click on MY HOME and go into the edit area for your signature. Go to the block and enter [.image], then paste in the code you copied from internet explorer (either using right mouse click then paste or ctrl-v)then enter [./image]. When entering the [.image][./image] do not enter the .

If you're going to enter the photo in the body of the message, use the same procedure above but place the [.image]address[./image] in the spot in your text where you want the photo to be.

What you should have is something like this, without the .'s
[.image]http://lizardcop.com/MexicoGullsm.jpg[./image]which will produce this picture;



That is the link to a picture of mine that I sometimes use in my signature block, but it shows how this works. Enter the rest of your signature, go to the bottom of the page and click on submit.

That should do it. Send a message to this thread titled "checking signature" or "checking photo" and when you send it, go check it and make sure the pic is there.

I think my editing program is PhotoSuite 4, whick I have no idea what to do with.

Okay, let's see what we can do.

I do not have PhotoSuite 4, but I did find an older copy of PhotoSuite 3 and loaded it in my computer. Hopefully, they are still similar in operation...

First off, find out where the photos are on your computer that you want to edit. Remember or write down that directory (ie., My Documents/My Photos)

Start the PhotoSuite program.

Once it is open, click on FILE in the top left corned of your screen, then click on OPEN. Place the address (or click on the arrow beside the window at the top of the box and go through your computer's hard drive until you find the directory). Once in that directory, look for the picture you want to edit. Highlight it (the photo name will appear in the "File Name:" window) then click OPEN.

This brings your photo up in a window for you to work on/with.

To resize, click on ADJUST (upper left near the FILE one) then click on RESIZE. This brings up a window that has the file's original size and 2 windows below it for you to enter your new size. Just place 400 in the window under the largest number in the original size. For example, if the numbers in the original size windows are 2288 and 1712, then you would place 400 in the window below the 2288. Only fill in one window for the new size.

Make sure the "keep proportions" box is checked! The program will figure the proper size for the second window for you.

Click OK and the program resizes the photo for you.

Now, the important part...

Click on FILE (top left) then click on "save as"

Change the name of the picture (so you do not overwrite the original one). What I usually do is add a sm (for small) to the end of the file name and before the period (ie., P123456.jpg would become P123456sm.jpg). Click on "save" and the photo is saved on your hard drive.

Remember where you saved it, because that is where you will go to use the instructions on how to upload the picture so you can post it...

Print these instructions out and put them beside the keyboard while you do it...
