As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!
Best wishes for a wonderful and magical new year!

How do these choices sound?
I had to rearrange my dining plans after switching from the Gold Plan to the Silver plan. We're trying one of the steakhouses and the Brown Derby as new experiences along with the two dinner shows, and want to return to 50's Prime Time and Crystal Palace. These choices are for late lunch or dinner. What do you think, especially about the three I can't decide between?
Yachtsman Steakhouse/Le Cellier/California Grill (which do you prefer??)
Hollywood Brown Derby
50's Prime Time
Crystal Palace
Hoop de Doo Revue
Spirit of Aloha Luau

Well, I've not eaten at Yachtman Steakhouse yet. But out of the other two, I prefer Le Cellier. I that cheese soup! Yum!!! Cali Grill does have an awesome view though!!!

California Grill is fabulous. The food is excellent, and you can't beat the view
The Brown Derby is one of our favorites as well. The french onion soup is to die for (although I just checked and it doesn't seem to be on the menu currently), and they had an amazing grapefruit cake.

I think California Grill is a winner, especially if you are using wishes features.
Your other choices sound excellent as well!

Re: How do these choices sound?
Here are my experiences with the restaurants you've mentioned:
Between Le Cellier and California Grill, I'm hard pressed to choose. They are both wonderful restaurants. However, if I could only choose one, it would be California Grill. I've found the food and service there to be consistently excellent (mind you, I could say the same thing about Le Cellier), but where California Grill has it over Le Cellier, is the stellar view from their window tables, particularly if you time your meal for during a showing of Wishes.
Hollywood Brown Derby - I also love this place - great food, excellent service and wonderful ambience.
50's Prime Time - Always a delight with their humorous CMs and the food is good plain home cooking.
Crystal Palace - Since I'm a huge Eeyore fan, I'm rather partial to this place for that reason alone but the buffet is a good one and the environment is bright and cheery.
Hoop Dee Doo Revue - This dinner show is absolutely amazing. I've done it three times now and will probably do it again at some point. The food is good and the show is stellar. It appeals to folks of all ages from toddlers right on up to senior citizens. With its healthy doses of audience interaction, it manages to keep everyone spellbound for the duration of the show. I'd highly recommend this dinner show to anyone.
The Spirit of Aloha Luau - This dinner show was a terrible disappointment to us. The food was mediocre at best and the show itself was rather boring - leastwise, the entire first half was. I'd expected the whole show to be traditional Polynesian music and dancing. Instead, the first half focuses on this really inane subplot full of modern music and dancing. By the time they finally got around to the traditional stuff that I'd hoped to see (and that part was good), we were so bored that we were practically falling asleep in our chairs. I definitely would not recommend this dinner show to anyone.

I have to agree entirely with Joy on this one. It's very hard to pick between these two restaurants, as they are both excellent, but California Grill just wins out for me.

Re: How do these choices sound?
I have never tried the California Grill or Yactsman Steakhouse, but I was so unimpressed with Le Cellier. The first time we ate there the service was slow. We were seated 50 minutes after our PS time (we has arrived 10 minutes before that time). It took very long once we were seated for anyone to come over to us and then we waited a long time for our food once ordered. The food was good, but the rest of the experience left a lot to be desired.
So, to give the place the benefit of the doubt - we had a PS there on a trip this year. We checked in and waited 45 minutes past the time. Asked the hostess how long and she said at least 15 more minutes. We told her to take us off the list and went elsewhere. Maybe we just have bad luck, but that is like walking under a ladder with a black cat in your hand bad luck!!

Great plans! The Brown derby is wonderful, the food is delicious & you feel just like you're in old Hollywood. Friends went to the Hoop show and loved it. As for your 3 choices I agree with the majority and vote for California Grill.

Re: How do these choices sound?
DH & I enjoyed the atmosphere at the Hollywood Brown Derby (check our first pic out in my signature). The food was excellent. I had the famous salad We also ate the Crystal Palace last year and enjoyed it. The characters were great and so was the food selection.
We are also doing the Spirit of Aloha Luau this year. This is our first time. Despite some of the reviews I have heard I am extremely excited. I think DH & I will love it.
And as for your three choices...we haven't eaten at any of those but I know that one day I would like to try the California Grill b/c of what I have heard of the views. Just my opinion

I'd go with the California Grill for the first choice! I have not eaten at either of the dinner shows, but I have been to CP, 50's Prime Time and Hollywood Brown Derby on more than one occasion and I love them all!! The Brown Derby is one of my favorites!! The creme brulee is to die for!!
[/ QUOTE ]
I couldn't have said it better, Tara (although my mom was the one who had the creme brulee and loved it).

Re: How do these choices sound?
While the CG is wonderful - it's not really a steakhouse - more a California cuisine/sushi house! If you want a good steak at the CR- the Concourse steakhouse is VERY good - and much less expensive than the Yachtsman, or even Le Cellier. I really enjoyed Le Cellier as well - but I've never tried Yachtsman.
The 50's Prime Time and the Hoop de Doo are HUGE family favorites of ours!! We also enjoyed the Crystal Palace, but we've only done breakfast there.
I only did the Luau once -and that was back in 86! It was fine - but not NEARLY as fun as the Hoop de Doo!
