As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!
Best wishes for a wonderful and magical new year!

2 adults with kids 15, 12 and 10 - where to stay in one room!
Yes, I know the simple answer is "get two rooms."
But, two rooms at Disney are pretty expensive.
So, I called and found the following resorts will house a family of 5:
Yacht Club
Polynesian
Swan/Dolphin
Animal Kingdom Lodge
Is this the entire list? I am leaning towards Beach Club (or Beach Club Villas).
Actually, my KIDS want to stay at the Beach Club.
Which would be the best for 5 of us packed into one room?
We are going to do the 4 days at Disney and 3 days on the cruise. They really charge a bunch for 5 on the cruise segment! And as a diabetic, I can't gorge on the wonderful food that I have heard about.

Re: 2 adults with kids 15, 12 and 10 - where to stay in one room!
When R u going????? Room only codes came out on mousesavers.com today and I think u can get a room at the value resorts for $55 a night therefore making it maybe at least comparable if u get 2 rooms at the all stars versus 1 room at say the Poly or AKL.......

Depending on what time of year you go, two connecting rooms are not that expensive. Value season at a value hotel can be as low as $55 a night, moderates $85 . . . two rooms still cheaper than one deluxe room at a deluxe hotel. Remember two rooms = two bathrooms = kids get their own room!

Re: 2 adults with kids 15, 12 and 10 - where to stay in one room!
There is a bigger list. If you want a less expensive alternative...you can stay at the moderate resort, Port Orleans in the Riverside section (Alligator Bayou rooms). They have 2 doubles and a trundle for your youngest.
The Contemporary has fairly large rooms for 5 and if you stay in the wings, it's one of the more moderate deluxe price point rooms.
You could also stay in the Fort Wilderness cabins that sleep 6, with a room with a double and bunks and a murphy in the living area (has a kitchen).

Re: 2 adults with kids 15, 12 and 10 - where to stay in one room!
I believe that if you are doing the Land/Cruise package, you automatically get a Deluxe accomodation because of the cruise cabin that holds 5 people. You might be limited to which resorts you can stay at. Our family of five did this last year with three boys and stayed at the Polynesian, which we LOVED! However, since your kids are a little older, you might want to stay at Yacht or Beach Club because of Stormalong Bay. Also, our family of 5 is staying at the Boardwalk Inn this year, which will also accomodate five.
Good luck!
Julie
You'll have a wonderful time, I'm sure!

Re: 2 adults with kids 15, 12 and 10 - where to stay in one room!
I have 3 daughters, 17, 16 and 9. We are going during xmas and staying at Port Orlean riverside. Call for the measurements for the trundle beds, they are smaller then ana average bed. look at allearsnet.com for a picture. also, the fridge should be free to keep insulin. Remember to get doctors note and keep all labels on meds and needles. this is my first disney trip since being diagnosised good luck!

Out of your list, I would pick Yacht Club b/c I love this area. You can walk or take a boat to MGM, Epcot and the Boardwalk. The swimming pool is wonderful, with a sand bottom and an old ship with a slide coming off of it. You might check the thread about the rehab at Stormalong Bay(Yacht Club's pool), depending when your going that could be a factor. We're going in March and I think the rehab is over shortly before we get there. Good luck deciding!

Re: 2 adults with kids 15, 12 and 10 - where to stay in one room!
Definitely pricier, but check out the Home Away From Homes - Villas at WL, Beach Club Villas, Boardwalk Villas, Old Key West, Saratoga Springs (which am I missing? LOL) - a one bedroom is supposed to sleep only 4 but you might be able to squeeze in a 5th (we're DVC Members and we have a 1br and it's DH, myself, 2 girls and MIL - we all fit (girls sleep with us) but Disney said that they'd only provide towels/linens for 4 since that's what it sleeps). Sometimes you can get a good discount for these resorts but as with all discount codes, they go fast so you have to act fast. Keep checking with www.mousesavers.com
Another option is to rent points from a DVC member - much cheaper than paying rack rate (and then you can possibly spring for a 2 bedroom which sleeps 8). Check out www.DisBoards.com for a great place where renters and rentees "meet". Someone at another board saved $900 off the rack rate by renting from a DVC member there.
Good luck!

Re: 2 adults with kids 15, 12 and 10 - where to stay in one room!
I would go with the Home Away from Home resorts because of space. My favorite is Fort Wilderness. It will accomodate 6 comfortable and there was always an abundance of towels. The room was kind of small, but with a queen bed and a set of bunk beds, all you do in there is really sleep. Plus with the murphy bed in the living room, Mom and Dad can close the kids door and get some privacy.
I guess it just depends on the price you want to spend.
Good luck!

Re: 2 adults with kids 15, 12 and 10 - where to stay in one room!
I noticed that you mentioned about the expense of two rooms, but you could probably swing two rooms at a Value, if there are some discount codes for your travel time period. Connecting rooms would be a real lifesaver!
The cabins would be fun as well. Again, maybe you could get some kind of discount for your travel time.
The other deluxes and Home Away from Homes would most likely be too expensive. But, again, I'm not sure of what your budget is.

Re: 2 adults with kids 15, 12 and 10 - where to stay in one room!
Did you book the Land/Sea with Disney or a T/A/ If it's the package deal, they give you a list of choices for resorts. If you are booking these separate and making your own Land/Sea package, then you can save some money. You can choose two rooms at a value resort or get a single room at the deluxe resorts that accomodate 5. We did the Land/Sea package and got our room at the Beach Club. We had four people, so the 2 DD's had to share a queen. They did not like sharing a bed, so after the second night, one slept on the day bed, which was not as long as a twin bed. I think they were uncomfortable, but would not admit it. On the cruise we had a Category 5, which slept 4 people, and the kids slept on the sleeper sofa and the pull down bed. Just beforewarned that the day bed is for small kids only.

Re: 2 adults with kids 15, 12 and 10 - where to stay in one room!
If you stay at the CR or the Poly (or the AKL deluxe rooms) the daybed is a full sized twin. I've heard that the trundle at POR is VERY small, and the daybed at the BC/YC and BWI is also smaller, but we've never tried those, so I don't know from experience.
I do know that my 5'9" daughter fit very comfortably on the daybed at the CR, Poly & AKL.
