Forums Closed
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.

So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.

Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.

And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.

We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.

There are other changes as well.

Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:

We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.

It's time to move on and move forward.

PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.

But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.

So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.

And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.

That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.

Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!

If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.

So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

Best wishes for a wonderful and magical new year!

Talking characters

Maybe this is a dumb question but do the characters that are not completely "covered" in their costumes (such as the princesses) talk to you? I can't remember.

Re: Talking characters

Yeah. If you can see their face they talk to you. My DH was a little nervous when Cinderella came over to talk to him at dinner

I think they need to design something that can cause the characters inside costumes to talk. Something they can talk into that will cause their voice to come out in character. DH thinks I'm crazy. I think it would be cool

Re: Talking characters

Yes, these are "Face Characters". It is DH's favorite past time to talk with them as they never break character. For example on recent trips he has asked Belle where she lived? Her answer, without missing a beat "In France with my PaPa Maurice" Then how did she get here every day? "My friend Cinderella let's me use her Uncle Walt's plane"

Another time we engaged in a legthy conversation with Mary Poppins.

It is very fun.....

I think that would be great too! Especially for some of the young kids who are scared by the characters. I think if the characters were able to just say a few comforting words the kids wouldn't be as scared.

Re: Talking characters

Ok, I just had to reply. My daughter tells me all the time I'm just TOO friendly. Case in point: We go trick-or-treating and I talk to EVERY person at their house. I normally find something I like about their home or their animal or something.

This one home that I've always LOVED was taking trick-or-treaters (not everyone participates in our town) and I noticed up the stair way were REAL Disney Cells. Of course I started to drool. Then I noticed over their fireplace that had the BIGGEST painting?? of about every character you could imagine. It was HUGE. I wondered how much that must of cost. But I talked up a storm with them, obviously!! LOL

I was just reading to her some of the posts you all made and told her I'll have a BALL talking to the face characters. She said "OH NOOOOOO". LOL Just thought I'd share that with you. Isn't it great how embarassed 13 yr olds get. It just drives me to do it more! LOL

I had a good time talking to Aladdin! He asked if my boyfriend was my Prince, and then told him to take good care of his Princess!

Re: Talking characters

Oh my gosh! We had the most fun talking with the princesses! I'd read that at the breakfasts they were a bit "rushed" so I'd had my DD ask each one a question to "engage" them a bit more. At CRT, we discovered that Beast was still sleeping ("he's a sleephead"), Prince Stephen was picking apples (I think Aurora was a bit surprised by the ?), the Dwarfs were working (of course!), and Jaq and Gus were up in a room b/c Lucifer was out prowling about "naughty kitty", while Mushu was barred from the PSB b/c he "likes to cause trouble", that day Beast hadn't brushed his teeth, Aladdin was sleeping in "but he'll see you later in Morocco (and did ) . Aladdin was totally charming when we did meet him and blushed when DD scolded him for sleeping in!
I think one of the charms of "face characters" is that they can interact in character with the children and the really "good" ones can improvise and make a child's day. It's sort of like if I could meet the cast of Ocean's 11 all in one day...

I'll never forget the time that my DH and I tried carrying on a conversation with Piglet. He just came over to our table, sat down, and stayed there for about 5 minutes, and then kept coming back. Do you know how hard it is to try to talk to someone who can't really speak But we did our best.

Re: Talking characters

I love to talk to the characters "face" or not! In February I did Disney solo for much of my vacation (my sister is a teacher and had school). I went to Garden Grill's Ice Cream Social and talked to all the characters and in their own way they talked back to me!! I brought a Disney story book I have had since I was 5 to get autographed. Chip saw the cover of the book and noticed that he and Dale were NOT in the illustration. He wanted me to find a illustration of him so he could autograph it. Honestly I was not sure if there was an illustration of him in the book but I did find one. He was so happy and autographed that page and then found Dale and showed him. When I closed the book they both spotted another illustration of them on the back! They jumped up and down they were so excited.

I always ask the Princesses how their "Prince" is doing. Belle surprised me by asking me how my prince was doing and I told her I didn't have one She told me to now lose hope that someday my prince would come just like hers did...when you least expect it. Thanks Belle for making me feel alittle more hopeful!

How could anyone NOT like going to Disney World!!

Re: Talking characters

It's so fun talking to the face characters--we particularly like Cruella! She knows so much about her story, even stuff that was left OUT of the movies! Snow White was squeaky voiced like in the movie, Megara sounded a LOT like in the movie, and Sarge from Toy Story was just an absolute riot!

I have heard Goofy say "Gawrsh!" He tripped going up some stairs at Liberty Tree Tavern. He's the only non-face character I've ever heard make a sound.

Re: Talking characters

We just got back from Disney and did several charater meals. Pluto was tons of fun to interact with, and my dd loved talking to the princesses. The morning we at at CRT, DD (4) looked at all the princesses (Snow White, Cinderella, Aurora, Belle, and Mary Poppins) and immediately noticed that Belle was not dressed in her ball gown. So that was the first thing she asked when Belle came by--Belle's response "I spend so much time in the library, and this dress is much more comfortable than the ball gown." Then Cinderella noticed that DD was wearing mary jane style shoes with velcro straps and commented that the velcro would make it much harder to lose shoes when running down stairs.

So why is Mary Poppins included with the Princess breakfasts? We saw her at both PSB and CRT?

Re: Talking characters

We had fun talking with all the characters! Most commented on the special autograph books we had that my MIL had made. The best conversations we had were 1)Ariel as Cassidy was asking where Flounder was and why she didn't have her legs and I can't remember the others and Ariel just laughed and didn't miss a beat and said Flounder was swimming with Sebastion keeping an eye on her Treasures and that her dad turns into a human for the parade. So from then on Cassidy kept asking when she would be turned into a human. Very cute.
2) With Peter and Wendy. Cassidy can still recite their entire conversation. Which lasted almost 45 minutes long. She talks about Peter misbehaving and how Wendy has to take care of him and tie his shoe etc.

But, I had fun talking with Pooh and Tigger. Cassidy also talked to them. Showed them her book and if she had an owee showed them that as well. Lots of fun!!!

Re: Talking characters

I agree about Cruella. We saw her in MGM and she made a lasting impression on then 5yr old DD and we didn't even meet her. We were on our way to find Woody and Buzz and saw a bunch of characters, including Cruella, out by the Hat. DD yelled out, "Look Hercules!!" and I guess I was a bit loud too and said, "Want to meet Hercules?" The next thing we heard was Cruella sneering at us, saying, "Can you two please keep it down!!!" To this day, DD loves to remember when we both got yelled at by Cruella!! LOL
