As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!
Best wishes for a wonderful and magical new year!

My Trip to the Pop Century - 8/2/04 thru 8/14/04
I know we aren't supposed to post it this way, but I am.
We arrived at Pop Centry Resort on the 2nd. It is very cute and fun to see the decorations on the buildings and grounds. The big Rubick's Cubes surrounding the staircases brought me back. Our room was in the 70s lake side first floor. The rooms are small, but were sufficient for us. We were accomodated with having three rooms together. We loved it. The Main "Clubhouse" as I called it was nice. Great game room and cafeteria.
We were there for enough days so we spent two days at each of the big three parks. The second day of WDW we did Cinderella's Breakfast at the Castle. The food I didn't like, but the look on the kids' faces made up for it. I was upset that IASM was closed, but was delighted by Mickey's Phil.
All the parks were as I remembered them. However, I did not enjoy Animal Kingdom at all. It was in the high 90s that day and it was unbearable. I left with heat exhaustion, finally getting sick that night. We realized all the other parks gave you places to cool off whether it be in gift shops or attractions, but in Animal Kingdom, there was no where to go. Drink lots of water and make sure you bring a fan. There are no straws at AK either, so If you have little ones, bring some with you. I did enjoy the safari, however the rapids were quite a dissappointment. I was hopping to get drenched, and only a patch of my shorts got wet.
The one thing I really wanted to post was the great way Disney handled Hurrican Charley. My whole family decided to stay on premises on friday the 13th of August to pack up the cars with unnecessary stuff and wait out the storm. At breakfast we found out the rest of the resort decided to do the same thing. It was mobbed. We got breakfast and brought lunches too and brought them back to the rooms so that we didn't have to go back
We stayed in our rooms playing games and cards. Disney also had 3 channels of Disney movies playing for the little ones. We also had our portable DVD players going. When it got closer to dinner 4 of us went up to the Clubhouse that was again mobbed and got dinner for all 9 of us to bring back to the rooms. As we were leaving, there were two CMs standing outside the doors of the Cafeteria, telling people to go back to their rooms, the hurricane was comming. We were lucky. When we got back to our room there was a memo on our bed from PCR letting us know that we were to stay in our rooms, stay away from the windows and if we need anything, to call the front desk. They also said until further notice the Cafeteria would be closed. The lines to the vending machines were huge. My room was right next door, so I could see people getting Dorritos and chips and soda for dinner.
During the hurricane we stood outside with everyone else in our wing going boy is it windy and rainy. We had a hurricane party outside the rooms. People on their terraces all laughing and in amazement.
When the wind blew too hard we would go inside, only to return. About 11:30 we got a call from PCR telling us the Cafeteria will now be open until 1:30 so that people could eat. I applaud PCR for keeping us safe and informed. We also get one free day pass next time we go to disney to make up for the day since disney closed at 1pm that day.
I had a great time! Can't wait to go back!
Karen

Re: My Trip to the Pop Century - 8/2/04 thru 8/14/04
It sounds like you really enjoyed your trip despite Charley! Good thing on the one-day pass though. Another Kudos to WDW during this storm!
PC is a great resort. I stayed there in January and loved walking around and seeing the different eras. How about the check-in area...I love the wall through time. It depicts American history...our lifestyle history!
We just tried Once Upon a Time Breakfast for the first time in August. The teens loved the characters and the opportunity to get a photo with a princess. Sounds like your kids enjoyed this too! I didn't have a problem with the food...DH and I don't normally eat breakfast so I guess anything will do for us! Really though, I loved the bakery basket (but I did have to ask for a new one because the first looked "picked over").
Glad your trip was so much fun that you can't wait to go back! I love that Dsaying, "Been there, done that, going back!"
Great TR.

Thanks for your report! I enjoyed Pop in March, think it's so clever.
Glad you survived the hurricane, too!
Hope another trip is in the works
