As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!
Best wishes for a wonderful and magical new year!

DNC Update
Paul reports smooth sailing so far. His train stops outside of Boston - and they take shuttle busses (with police escorts in front and behind) to South station. He had to go through a gateway, where they ran a strip the size of a bandaid all over his bag (sort of a canvas brief case) and stuck the strip in a computer. Apparently they were satisfied with the readout, as he was allowed to board the bus. Most people who can, have taken the week off, so travel is light, there's plenty of room on public transportation. There are police all over the place (including SWAT teams), tons of DNC people sightseeing, protesters (he says they are pretty mellow), and limos and celebrities all around town. The media is everywhere, "circus atmosphere" was his description. Paul told me he overheard a man talking about how Newbury Street (an exclusive shopping district on the idea of Rodeo Drive) is deserted, and the business owners are upset about it. Stay tuned for future updates all week long!

Re: DNC Update
It's definitely not been the mess (or the economy boon) that had been expected. I drove to my parents house (in Somerville) Monday @ 6:30 pm and went up Rt. 128 to Rt. 2 and I was there in 65 minutes - there was NO traffic!
And DH works at Logan (midnight shift) so has to travel Rt. 93N and he got into work quicker Monday evening than he has in a long time - we weren't quite sure if he was even going to be able to get to work this week!
It's too bad that the restaurants and stores are not seeming to benefit from this convention - where are all of these people eating? At their hotels?

Re: DNC Update
So I'm reading this thread and I'm thinking "What in the world is DNC?". Finally, I figured it out: Democrat's convention! Gee, I feel so smart now!
I heard on our national news that there's serious delays crossing the border (I think Niagara Falls is the crossing that made the news) due to increased security. First Canadian Customs stops all the cars crossing and searches them, then they drive into the States, and American Customs stops all cars crossing and searches them! No bad guys getting through there! First thing I thought of was "Oh, I hope nobody's trying to drive to WDW right now. It would be such a terribly slow start to the trip!" (um, obsessed with Disney much? )

Donna you are so funny.
Nancy, we went into the city on Sunday night for the Carole King concert and I was amazed at the number of police of every type. They were EVERYWHERE. The city looked nice all spiffed up for the occasion. I'm glad it isn't too much of a pain for Paul to get to work.

Re: DNC Update
Ooops! Sorry Donna, lucky for me your one smart cookie. Yeah, it's the Democratic National Convention that's come to town.
Tammy, a camera is a great idea. I don't know if he can bring one or not. Yesterday they actually searched through his bag before he could board the bus. Also, a security person completely inspected the bus before anyone could board.
A friend of mine works at the Fleet Center (where the convention is being held), as a security guard. She was telling me yesterday that they have snipers on the roof of the Fleet Center and secret service agents all over the place.

[/ QUOTE ] We found the same thing to be true here in Atlanta in 1996 with the Olympics. There had been all these reports about how bad traffic was going to be (it's ALWAYS bad), and how crowded the restaurants would be, and how much money the city would make. None of it came true! In fact, I even scheduled a C-section for DS on the opening cermonies day since I was sort of nervous about getting to the hospital. I would have needed one anyway, but I was glad to get it over with before all the ruckus.

Re: DNC Update
Final update, sorry it's late.
Paul's week went by almost without incident. He made it straight through until the return trip home, Friday afternoon. He arrived at North Station, which was operational by then. BUT, the switches for the trains had been shut off for the week, and when turned back on, didn't work. So, Paul ended up standing on the crowded platform for an hour on a hot and very muggy Friday afternoon, while trains backed up, and railroad workers tried to figure out how to work the switches manually. I was waiting for him at the station at our end, wondering what was up. I tend to be on the impatient side, but grabbed a free Metro newspaper and occupied myself until he arrived....which he obviously did. He wasn't thrilled with the delay, however, all things considered, it was a relatively painless week. We are glad it's over and donewith.
