Forums Closed
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.

So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.

Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.

And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.

We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.

There are other changes as well.

Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:

We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.

It's time to move on and move forward.

PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.

But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.

So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.

And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.

That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.

Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!

If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.

So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

Best wishes for a wonderful and magical new year!

Re: 120 Million Dollar Lottery

$145 million dollars?! That is beyond my comprehension really! How much of that do you actually get I wonder (not that I'm complaining!)

The first thing I would do is call my dad (well, DH first, then my dad) and get the name of his financial advisor, then I'd call my cousin who is a lawyer and hire her as my own personal lawyer, then after I claimed my money, I'd plan at least a 10 day trip to WDW (including Universal) for my family (my kids, both parents, sisters/brothers (both) their kids, and a few close friends) and a 7 day trip to Hawaii for just me and DH.

Then I'd start planning for the kids college education, our 'early' retirement, figure out where we wanted to buy a new home and a vacation home (maybe DVC points at WDW?), DH would want a new truck probably, I'd like a new minivan (although mine is only 2.5 and I do like it), donate a percentage to charity (I would probably do this on a yearly basis rather than all at once) and ask my parents and DH mom would they would like us to do for them and that's about all I can think of for now. My head is spinning with just the thought of that amount of money!

Good luck!

Re: 120 Million Dollar Lottery

Best of luck to all PP in Texas!

Like Teresa, the first two calls would be to our attorney and our financial advisor. I like the idea of being able to pay my parents back for all they've done for me/us. And I've always wanted to send them on a real honeymoon as they only had a weekend trip when they got married 51 years ago. (Although they now travel 3-4 times a year).

I'd set up college funds for my nieces/nephew (DS is already set up). The usual paying off of debts and giving donations would be done, but I doubt I'd pay off my mortgage because I'd be looking for that house that backs up to the golf course!

Re: 120 Million Dollar Lottery

DH and I love to dream about winning that kind of money. I don't know that we'd keep it a secret. But I do think we'd change all our numbers before announcing it to too many people.

As for what we'd do with it? That's a tough one. Donate a good chunk to charity of course and pay off all our debts. Buy a house with property and new vehicles. I'd definitely hire a maid. Set aside money for DD to go to college and a trust fund for when she's older. Oh, I'd quite my job of course! And I think we'd pay back our parents for everything we've ever borrowed from them.

Of course we'd plan a trip to WDW and probably buy into DVC, or maybe just buy a place down there. We'd travel for a while and when we were ready to settle down again, we'd look into business opportunities.

Re: 120 Million Dollar Lottery

DH and I had bought 10 dollars worth of tickets and I just *knew* we were going to win. *sigh*. Oh well - I get another chance this weekend! Yay! Melanie and Amber, I didn't realize I had some PP who lived near me - how exciting!

Re: 120 Million Dollar Lottery

Wow! NC doesn't have a lottery (yet-I think we will eventually because so many people go to TN, VA and SC to buy tickets!). But if I won that much I would call in sick to work that first day, then
1) find a good financial advisor
2) pay off the credit card
3) buy a car that's not on it's last legs
4) go pick up all my stuff from work and tell them I'm gone!
5) begin building my dream house
6) TRAVEL!!! (I'd like to visit ALL the Disney parks!)
Beyond that would be investing, donations to charity and the church, giving my parents enough to pay off their debt and retire, and giving my sisters and best friend a gift (enough to pay off their debts, but with the understanding that I am NOT a bank!). It's fun to dream...

Re: 120 Million Dollar Lottery

DH and I have discussed this at length...Since he's already retired, there's no job to quit , but aside from that, here's our list:

1) Pay off all our debts.
2) Each child gets a house and car - with a limit to the total amount they can spend. (DH's youngest is not quite 18, so her money would go in trust until she's 25).
3) Set up a college fund for each grandchild.
4) Build our dream house in or near Orlando, plus a vacation home here in Michigan.
5) Cars! I want a VW Bug, a PT Cruiser, a Corvette, a Mini-Cooper, a Hummer, a Looney Tunes Mini-Van, and a Motor Home for travelling. DH wants an extended-cab pick-up truck. Hmmmmm, we'd have to build a humungous garage to hold all those vehicles....Oh, and we may want to think about a stretch limo for those special nights on the town - or just to go to the grocery store in style!
6) Travel!!!!
7) Invest a huge amount so that we'd always have enough income to provide us with the type of lifestyle to which we'd like to become accustomed...
8) Most important...book AKL Concierge rooms for ourselves and our whole family and lots of our friends for an obscene amount of time...Up to a month might do it...then book both suites on the Disney Magic for the through the Panama Canal cruise for next year for us and our family, then do DisneyLand...Then DH and I would go to Disneyland Tokyo and Disneyland Paris...just the two of us...
9) But first: change the phone number!!!

The Mega Million Jackpot here in Michigan (and several other states) for next Saturday is estimated at $121 Million! If you elect to take the full amount up front, you only get half (60.5 mil), then income tax is deducted. So you'e end up with about $35 Million, give or take a few bucks...Not too shabby.

Re: 120 Million Dollar Lottery

Carol, the MegaMillions drawing is on FRIDAY, not Saturday, so get your tickets tomorrow!

Actually, don't bother, because I'M going to win the $121 million.

I'll travel. I'll spend the first year visiting all the famous cities and landmarks I've been reading about all my life. I'll snorkel with sharks and have my picture taken with the pyramids and go to the top of the Eifel Tower.

The second year will be devoted to designing and building a huge dream house.

After that, perhaps college and a new career, doing something totally fun that I never thought of before, like building computers of maybe travel writing. I can build a mean computer now (if only I had the time and money) and I think I'd make a pretty good travel writer (if only I traveled more than once a year and to more destinations than just WDW).

One thing's for sure: I'll be dressing nicer and eating better with $121 million in the bank.

Re: 120 Million Dollar Lottery

If i had that much money i would travel, travel and travel, then when i found the best places in the world i would buy houses. I defintely would want a house right on the beach so i could walk out my back door and walk onto the beach. I would buy 5 of my dream cars , all mustangs of course except for my saleen and have paint jobs on them. I would buy the best stereo in the world loaded with every cd ever created. I would donate to make a wish foundation and a couple of animal charities and give money to countries that don't have enough to feed their children. Once i traveled enough i would settle down and rescue animals for the rest of my days. And i wouldn't be greedy. I would buy my mom a house car and give her enough money so she never had to work again. I would give my bro money for college a car and a house.

Re: 120 Million Dollar Lottery

Let's see - $120 mil is usually $6 mil a year for 20 years. After taxes you would probably see a little over $3 mil a year. Since I plan to live much longer than 20 years, I would probably invest half right off the top. So that leaves $1.5 mil a year.

I probably won't move for 5 years, until the kids are out of high school. I would pay off the mortgage and might consider getting a different house in the same school boundaries, but probably not right away. After the kids are out of high school, I would have to think seriously about where I wanted to live. Colorado is pretty nice (where we live now), family is back in Oregon (where we used to live). Could never live in Florida year round due to humidity - maybe Hawaii?

My husband would quit his temp job and I would probably quit my job.

My husband could get his dream car and replace his truck. I would get a new car (Audi or BMW or ?), probably keeping my Maxima for the kids to drive.

My husband could get a race car again (a new one this time) and start racing again. He would have the money to go to the National Champainships this time.

We would go on long vacations to Hawaii and a Disney cruise, visit WDW and Disneyland, and other vacations. Still will have to work around school schedules though. Money doesn't change everything.

I would pay for my MIL assisted living quarters and get her a larger apartment/room. I would pay off my mom's mortgage or pay for her if she wants to live in a senior living place.

I would pay for the college educations of my nieces and nephews.

I would donate to charities, probably $100,000 at a time and spread it around, doing favorites more often.

I would get a membership to a gym and hire a personal trainer, get a makeover, visit a spa, - in other words get myself in better shape and health and pamper myself.

Not everything would be done the first year and I would not want to change too much too fast. I would want to enjoy the money, not have it rule me.
