Forums Closed
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.

So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.

Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.

And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.

We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.

There are other changes as well.

Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:

We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.

It's time to move on and move forward.

PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.

But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.

So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.

And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.

That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.

Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!

If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.

So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

Best wishes for a wonderful and magical new year!

Re: Missing my puppy Max

I've had to do this twice in the last 37 years and with a 12+ year old dog we know that it will probably be sooner than later that this will have to happen. Keep the good memories in your heart and your puppy will always be with you. to you and family.

Re: Missing my puppy Max

Thank you all for your kind and caring words! Reading all of your thoughts made me cry again! He really was a great pup and every day I think 'it was best for him. But my heart says it wasn't best for me! He was my baby and even though I have a real baby now, it doesn't change how I feel.

It helped to hear that I'm not alone in this. Sometimes you feel like you are the only one that had this deep love for a pet. It did wonders for me to hear that all of you have or did too.

Thanks for taking the time first to read about him and second for sending me your pet's (and family) stories. I went to the vet today to return his heart medicines and talked to his vet about adopting. I'm not sure what I have decided but DH is on board with whatever I decide.
Then, while waiting for Dr. Adams, Maddie (DD) saw three golden retrievers and went bonkers! She got on all fours and pretended to bark and growl. The puppy of the trio jumped onto her and started to play while the momma of the pup caressed Maddie's cheeck's with the side of her head. I really had to fight back the tears on that one. Max was so sick for the past 6 or so months that he wasn't able to give her that. It was good to see that. Then I had go to the store and walked right by the dog aisle. I had to remind myself that I didn't need anything up that aisle. What is even worse is the food and treats left in the pantry.

Thanks for the thoughts and pixie dust- I really appreciate all your kind words and thoughts! I want you all to know, I honest and truly do appeciate y'all taking the time to post back! Thank You!

Linda

Re: Missing my puppy Max

I just added a photo of Max to my signature! YEAH!!!!!! Now y'all can see what a sweetie he was! This photo was taken in 1996 or 1997. It is one of my all time favorites! He was a Lab Dalmation Setter mix. He was medium sized, about 66lbs when he passed.
So, there he is!

<font color="brown"> I'm so sorry about your loss. I know how you feel, I have a cat and never was a big fan, I love dogs but my apartment won't allow them so I had to settle. Well come to find out I didn't settle at all he's one of the best things that ever happened to me. I too never understood what a pet meant until I got one of my own, to me he is like the child I never had. When I'm down, all I need it for him to jump in my lap and try to play. He always finds some way to cheer me up.

My heart goes out to you</font>

Re: Missing my puppy Max

Linda,
I am so sorry for you loss, I know how you feel. I am sitting here crying as I read your post.

I too had to put my 13yr. old cockerspaniel to sleep and it was the hardest thing I ever did.
She was my baby and like you I got her at 4 weeks old so had to bottle feed her etc. It made us so close. My vet always said she thought she was human as she had those qualities. She gave hugs and kisses too. She was support through my breakup with my fiancee and loved my hubby when she met him the first time.
Seems our stories have a lotin common.
We walked around stores for two weeks after work because we hated to come home to an empty house.
We finally got another cocker 4 months later. Daisy is such a joy and I love her dearly, but she is not my Muffin. Muffin was and will always be a part of my heart. No two dogs are alike, so remember your new puppy will make it's own mark in your lives. You will love it and care for it but it may not be the same as Max.

I know how hard this is, if you need to talk to someone who has been there, email me.

Take care and hang on to the memories for comfort.
One of the things I did was to make a journal just of her. Things we did together, reactions she had to things, trips we took etc. It helped putting all those things down in print. Journaling is a good grief release. It may sound strange for a dog, but hey that's my baby.

Take care, my thoughts are with you.

Marylee

Re: Missing my puppy Max

I am so sorry for your loss Linda. Max was such an important part of your family. It is such a tough decision to have to make, but it was the right one for Max. My beloved "baby" has also been diagnosed with a untreatable heart defect, and I have to prepare myself for what may happen. We have already decided no matter how hard it may be that we will put her down if she shows any signs of suffering from her disease. The way I look at it, and I'm sure you can say the same for Max, is that I will provide her with the best possible doggy life there is. Hang in there!

Re: I am going to miss Max soooo much

I am so sorry for your loss. Max sounds like he was not only a great dog, but a great friend. I have also been through the pain of having to make the decision to put a beloved pet down. While it is never an easy choice for us, it is the best for them. Take comfort in knowing that you did the right and loving thing for Max.
About a year and a half ago we had to put our beloved Gidget, a shiz tzu, down due to sudden kidney failure. She was only 5 years old. Just the other day DH brought her up and broke into tears. I was quick to follow.
It is never easy to loose a beloved companion animal. They come into our lives and somehow manage to fill our hearts. I am sure that if Max had a say in things he would want you to shower the love you gave him on another animal.
Whatever you decide to do, I hope you find comfort in the unconditional love you had from Max and remember that he will always be with you in your heart.
