Forums Closed
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.

So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.

Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.

And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.

We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.

There are other changes as well.

Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:

We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.

It's time to move on and move forward.

PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.

But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.

So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.

And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.

That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.

Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!

If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.

So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

Best wishes for a wonderful and magical new year!

When will Canadian Amazon receive DCL Passporter?

I preorderd my DCL Passporter in March in the hopes that it would arrive by my May 2nd cruise, that unfortunately didn't happen, so now I am hoping to have it by May 30th as it is holding up the rest of my order which is for my daughter's first birthday (May 30). Could Jennifer or Dave advise me as to when Amazon.ca will have my order ready for shipment? My account says that it will ship by May 24th, but that seems unlikely as the Amazon.ca website is still taking preorders. I guess I'm just wondering why US Amazon website, as well as US bookstores have your book, but not Canadian ones? Thanks, Tiger

Re: When will Canadian Amazon receive DCL Passporter?

I wish I had something I could tell you. We do not sell directly to Amazon, so we have no wisdom to share. Amazon buys from our wholesalers, and our wholesalers have plenty of books in inventory. Why Amazon.ca doesn't have stock is a question only Amazon can answer.

Re: When will Canadian Amazon receive DCL Passporter?

Thanks Dave for your reply. I understand that as the publisher you are in control of what happens with your book, but I am posting a reply from Amazon as they told me different info then what you posted here. I remember reading another post here in which you said it doesn't matter where we as customers buy our Passporter, as we won't be treated any differently, but unfortunately that doesn't seem to be the case as people who ordered directly from you received their book weeks ago, and US online and book retail customers have also been able to access this book, whereas us Canadian customers have not. Perhaps you could look into this as the Publisher, as it is quite frustrating for us as purchasers of your product!

Here is Amazon.ca's response to my inquiry:

"Thank you for writing to us at Amazon.ca.

I apologize for any misunderstanding about the delivery estimate for your order. We rely on the publisher for release date information. Our most recent information was that "Passporter's Field Guide to the Disney Cruise Line and Its Ports of Call - Second Edition: The Take-

Along Travel Guide and Planner" will be released on April 10.

Once this item has been released and we receive copies, we will be able to ship it to you. It is not uncommon for there to be a delay of several weeks between the release and distribution of a new publication.

I realize this is not what you expected when you placed this order, and it is understandable if you prefer to cancel the item. If you no longer need this item, you may cancel it yourself through the "Your Account" link at the top of our home page. When your order is shipped, you should receive an e-mail message confirming the date, contents, and method of your shipment. As per our standard policy, we do not charge you for items until they enter

the shipping process, so you will not be charged for this item until it is available and we have shipped it to you.

Thanks for shopping at Amazon.ca"

I think you probably misunderstood my comments about "It doesn't matter where you buy your PassPorter..." What I'm referring to when I say that is that we support our customers' choice to buy their books from their favorite retailer - we're happy you're buying a PassPorter, whether you buy it directly from us, or not.

We can't tell folks that other retailers will treat them the same way we would, and we can't promise when other retailers will order books or have them in stock - that's out of our hands.

There are going to be differences, especially in the weeks immediately following publication (we started shipping books around April 20, not April 10 as Amazon.ca said). Books ordered directly from us can be shipped as soon as they arrive from the printer. With smaller publishers like PassPorter, book stores prefer to buy their books from wholesalers rather than direct-from-the-publisher. It takes a few weeks for books to go from our warehouse to the wholesaler and thence to the book stores.

As a practical matter, it's very possible that Amazon.ca hasn't received its shipment. We also don't know when Amazon.ca placed its order(s) for this book, or which wholesaler or distributor received their order. Our wholesalers do not divulge customer information to us, so we're not in a position to track Amazon.ca's order. Amazon could have bought it from one of several U.S.-based wholesalers, as a trans-shipment from Amazon U.S., or from our Canadian distributor. One way or the other, it's a cross-border shipment, and despite the friendly relationship between the U.S. and Canada, shipments to Canada take significantly longer than shipments within the U.S.

I'm sorry for your frustration, and hope Amazon.ca is able to ship your order very soon.
