As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!
Best wishes for a wonderful and magical new year!

Help Please!!!
Hi
This is my very first post on these boards so a very big "Hello" to everyone from me across the pond! By the way it's freezing here!
My husband and I have booked to stay in the Port Orleans Resort (Riverside Section - DXL)
and would like to know if you have stayed in a particular building/room that was in a nice spot.
Also if you could give us any information on the hotel at all that would be great!
We have got a long wait as we are not going until December this year but are very excited as it will be our first time on-site.
Thanks
Bye!
Wendy

Re: Help Please!!!
Hi Wendy! Welcome to the boards.
I stayed at Port Orleans on my first trip to WDW (March 1998) and fell in love with it. We stayed in building #7, which on the map looks pretty far away, but it's such a small resort that it's not that much of a hike. I agree with debe ... check out Deb Wills' site for some great information and photos. I'm pretty sure she also has a map of the resort.
You'll love the Disney details there -- the gardens, the "street" names (Rue d'Baga is my favorite), the pool, etc. It's really a beautiful resort. Have a wonderful time!!

Re: Help Please!!!
Hi Wendy!
Welcome! It's freezing here in Chicago, too! I've stayed at DXL 3 times, all in the Alligator Bayou section. Once in building 16 (I think) by a quiet pool, closer to the main building. The last 2 times we were further away, building 24, but really close to the 2nd bus stop. The rooms were much quieter than the one by the quiet pool as most families want to be close to the food court.
I love this hotel. It has a great pool/bar, wonderful food court and restaurant, and a nice boat ride to DD.
If you have any specific ?, just ask.
michele

Re: Help Please!!!
HI, WENDY and WELCOME! We've stayed in the Bayou in bldgs 34 & 26. We didn't have a problem with either location. Both were quiet with great atmosphere and very close to a quiet pool. It's always nice to be near a quiet pool because the laundry room is right there.
I find the futher your room is from the common areas, the more you can enjoy the resort. The walks may take a few minutes, but there is so much to take in along the way.
If you want a full service restaurant, Boatwright's is a good place to eat or you have the food court (Colonel's Cotton Mill) with a variety of self servcie items as well as window service for hot foods and a bakery with great sweets! There is an arcade room if the kids need a diversion. Maybe while the kids are there, you could enjoy the Cotton co-op Lounge which offers drinks, appetizers and evening entertainment. The arcade & lounge are on opposite ends of the lobby so you aren't too far away from the kids. Ol' Man Island has a huge pool with a fun water slide, good drinks at Muddy Rivers Pool Bar, the Fishin' Hole and a playground.
You can also rents bikes or surry bikes to tour the resort. You can rent just a canoe to paddle around the island or a pontoon boat and travel down the Sassagoula River past the French Quarter, Disney Key West Resort, parts of the Disney Institute including the Treehouse Villas and on to Downtown Disney.
Gee, I miss this place just talking about it!
Happy planning and don't hesitate to come back and join us again!

Take care-

Re: Help Please!!!
Hiya
Thanks alot for all your replies - keep 'em coming!
We will be spending Christmas Day out there as our dates are 12/12/01 - 26/12/01. We want to go to the MK on the 25th - do you reckon it will be really busy or no different from when I've been before in the summer months?
The MK is my favourite park - I just love the castle and parades there, in fact I love all the lands but am not too keen on Tommorowland.
By the way, have any of you been to England before! If so, when did you come, where did you stay and what did you do here?
I'm looking forward to reading your replies!
Bye
Wendy

Re: Help Please!!!
Welcome to the boards!
DH & I just got back from DXL on Sunday (2/4). It was our 1st experience there, and we LOVED it!
We stayed in Aligator Bayou section of DXL, room 2440 -- upper level, corner room (per request.) This room is very near to both a quiet pool & a bus stop. Two big pluses for us.
The resort is well-maintained, the food court offers many choices, and the staff is wonderful. The main pools at PO & DXL look to be pretty nice & there are numerous quiet pools around, too. The main pool at PO section is undergoing a rehab now -- but will definitely be done long before you arrive!
The transportation is great, too. Currently there are 3 bus stops at DXL and 1 at PO. You can also use boating to Downtown Disney or b/t DXL & PO.
There is an arcade at DXL. You can also rent surrey bikes. (We love those bikes!)
I know you will like it here. The atmosphere is really comfy & homey.

Re: Help Please!!!
Hi Wendy!
Yes, I have visited your beautiful country back in 92. It was my first BIG trip after graduating from college and getting my first job. I went on a 10 day tour that started in London, went up western England into Scotland then back down to London on the eastern side. I would love to return, espacially to see more of London, Wales, the Cotswolds and Scotland. Now, I just have to figure out a way to get my DH, who doesn't like to fly, to surrive the 8 hour flight.
Your trip will be here before you know it!
