As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.

There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:

It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!

She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. Has anyone here experienced this at Universal as it looks like a fun event? It is a hard ticket event add on to your park passes. It's about $74 on Sun-Fri and $85 on Saturday. It doesn't look nearly as tame as WDW's MNSSHP!
Would be interested in your opinions and experiences with this event!

I have chickened out of HHN on more than one research trip. However, MANY of my friends who are much braver than I am have done it and if you like to be scared, it is great! I highly recommend the RIP Tour - basically a VIP tour of the event. Friends that have done the RIP Tour rave about it. https://www.universalorlando.com/Ima...cm13-57698.pdf
We have done horror nights more than once. It is dh and ds's favorite. I have only ventured in the haunted houses during the day time tour unmasked. But there are some scarers out in the park. The haunted houses are like horror movie sets. Waits can get extremely long. I would say what ever you do, avoid Saturday. If you can go a wednesday or Thursday or Sunday pick one of those. But get the express pass or do the rip VIP tour so you don't have to wait so long in lines. And, be inside the park for the change over, either in diagon alley or near finnegans. They will coral you and check for horror nights tickets, give you a wrist band and then let you go a few minutes before they open the front entrances. But you need to be inside the park about 45 minutes to an hour BEFORE the park closes and get into an area where you can stay otherwise they will force you to exit the park. This is definitely not MNSSHP. it is definitely a more scary and more adult atmosphere with bars set up around the park and scare actors in areas. Not all rides are open for the party, but a few are and diagon alley is open.

I am definitely up for this and enjoy the thrill of being scared with an event like this! The RIP tour is pricey but may be worth it as you get to experience it all and without the waits! I know you have to be in the park by some time before it closes and I will be in Universal that day. I will be staying onsite and there is a line in which you can enter for HHN for resort guests. I know it's a much more adult and scarier event and I welcome it.
I plan on doing this event on a Wednesday or Thursday. I've read about the corral areas and this was on Undercover Tourist and Finnegans is the best as you can get something to eat there and relax before going in for the event. I may do the RIP tour as it sounds like a good way to see it all.

The tour is really the way to go especially if you plan on just one night at HHN. You will get to go through all of the haunted houses and still have the rest of the night to enjoy the rest of the park. During the day they also offer unmasked tours that let you see the houses during the day and everything that goes into them. I don't know if that appeals to you, but that was the only way I was going into them!
Finnegans gets super crowded so plan on getting there early, well before they put up the fences to corral people and have a few drinks. If HHN starts at 6, plan to be out of finnegans and waiting around 5:15 ish. If they are offering early admission for pass holders this will affect how far and where you can venture early before the official opening. If passholders early admission isn't going on then more of the park will be available before official opening. There is also a counter service place in diagon alley along with an ice cream place that will remain open.

I think the tour could be a good choice for me! I've heard about the other tour but I think I will probably do just one add on tour as I plan to do the regular park thing in Universal earlier this day. I'm hoping to get in a few regular attractions after the tour as well!

I think HHN starts at 6:30 pm for my day as that's the norm, but will check the schedule, when it becomes available. If they do offer the earlier PH admission, with the tour it won't have much affect on what I'm able to see. I know about the locale in Diagon Alley and another in the Simpsons area as well.

Just to let anyone who may be interested is that the three R.I.P. experiences/tours are now available as of today for booking! They are not cheap, but a good way to experience everything with long waits at the various haunted houses as this is such a popular event.

So, besides the reception and reserved seating for Bill and Ted, what's the advantage of the tour vs. the HHN express pass? I don't care about the reception. Is the show so popular that we might not get in?
I am looking at October 8, a Sunday.
Also, does anyone else notice that booking online is problematic when choosing options and dates for those options? I think I should call to be sure I get what I want, when I want it.

The express pass just allows you to ride the regular attractions in US/IOA during this event and is an extra cost but included with the RIP tour. You should be able to get into the Bill and Ted's show. The problem is the haunted houses which can have astronomical waits times of over two hours at times. You are guaranteed to visit all the houses with the tour with little or no wait.
I booked mine by phone. I was on their list as I called them a few months ago about booking this. They contacted me by email when I could book it. They made sure I was on the list when I booked it. It may not be available to general public yet but not sure.
Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays are the busiest days, so I'm doing a weekday and it's also a bit cheaper. Sunday shouldn't be quite as bad as Friday and Saturday as the event is at night. I'm going just a few days before you want to go. This will be my first itme for this.

Express by itself is less money, and you get the haunted houses with it, as well as standard attractions that would be open. I think I would go for that option. We'll see how my son's job hunt goes. If he's still in his current employment situation, we plan to go. If he's started a new job, we'll postpone until next year.
