which do you prefer... table credit for lunch or dinner - PassPorter - A Community of Walt Disney World, Disneyland, Disney Cruise Line, and General Travel Forums
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

which do you prefer... table credit for lunch or dinner
I have done mostly breakfast and lunch but I have decided next year to use the table credit at either lunch or dinner . We will do small in room breakfast. do you prefer your quick service for lunch or dinner? which do you use your table credit for? Does it really depend on the restaurant you're eating at? I've reviewed many menus already and the buffets seem the same for lunch and dinner as well as the table choices.

We always do the Dining plan so we do an early counter service breakfast and then a small snack about midway through the day (usually we share a pretzel or small veggie tray) and then do table service early...around 5pm. Sometimes the table service is used at breakfast with the counter service in the early evening.

We either do a TS breakfast buffet, with a snack in the middle and a QS smaller meal for supper OR AN early QS breakfast, a snack in the middle then a nice TS for supper. A QS or TS for lunch for us is too much food too close together.
For a Table Service credit, will might do a lunch or two but it really depends on the menu. If the menu for lunch is the exact same as it is for dinner, or very similar, then we'll go either meal because I feel we are getting a better value for our money/credit. We also use TS credits for at least 2 character breakfasts.
We do a lot of character buffets because 1cr is a pretty great deal for an all-you-can eat meal that you yourself choose. At quite a lot of TS, it's not possible to choose an entree-dessert-beverage that costs as much as a buffet meal for one person. And, at the buffet, you can have as many desserts as you want!
A lot depends on how much family members usually want to eat, especially if you have big eaters who can fill and clean several plates.
We prefer buffets like Crystal Palace or 1900 PF as opposed to the family-style meals where you get a platter which may include foods neither of us likes or wants.
I think what your family likes to eat and how the food is served, buffet or family-style, can be more important than whether it's lunch or dinner when considering biggest bang for a TS credit.

I agree. We also stick to mainly buffets. I have a very big eater in our group . That's why I asked the question really. I usually do buffet lunches but than after a qs dinner he's starving by the later evening and the next morning. I think if we do the ts buffet dinner it would satisfy him better.
Thank you again for your feedback. I always feel you help me make my decisions by all your responses.

We usually have the same pattern when we are on the meal plan, breakfast in the room or use a snack credit in the morning. Early QS lunch to miss the crowds and then we often go for a break back at the hotel. Then a nice dinner around 5pm to get fuel up for taking advantage of the parks at night.
We like to get the best value for the TS credits as well. Usually using them for dinner..4-6pm..then heading to a park for the night.
Tappan Edo at Epcot or Brown Derby at HS. If you like buffets 1900 Park Fare
at GF is a great value & delicious. ..we always do dinner there.

We have always gotten the DDP and have always used it to our advantage. We mainly eat TS for all our meals but always breakfast & dinner. After a large breakfast sometimes snacks will tied us over til our dinner. We tend to do the character breakfast buffets as well and we really enjoy the signature dinners. The only buffets/family style we usually pick for dinners is 'Ohana, Cape May & HDDR.
I think one important factor for us that no one has mentioned is convenience. We tend to do a lunch TS at DHS bc we like Sci-fi but in other parks we tend to just go go go and wait to et our dinner. We tend to pick meals based on convenience of location, park we are in at that time and the evening plans. For example if we are in Future World we may have a lunch TS at Coral Reef and enjoy the tranquility and break from the heat. Whereas in AK we might have bfast then just wait til dinner.
For all of my trips, except the very first, we've done the DxDP. The first year we did 3 meals a day, and boy was that overkill. The next year, we did TS breakfast and dinner, and just played lunch by ear. My solo trip, I just ate when I felt like it... For our upcoming December trip, we're only doing the DDP, and most of the TS meals are breakfast with a few dinners, and one lunch at T-REX.
We typically do breakfast and dinner as table service (my dad has to sit down to eat) and then we snack or grab something on the go for lunch - if necessary.
