As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!
Best wishes for a wonderful and magical new year!

Whispering Canyon at WL
Is this restaurant for the shy? I'm a little nervous about going there (if we book at WL) because my daughter would DIE if any attention was brought to her and I'm not too far behind in that category.
I'm getting the impression that it is not for the tame at heart. I don't want this to be the reason for not booking at WL, since WL is my first choice for a resort.
Any suggestions?

Re: Whispering Canyon at WL
You can always book and stay at the Wilderness Lodge without eating at Whispering Canyon.
I am sure some folks who have eaten there will come along here and help you out but to me it seems like it's not a place for the very shy.

Re: Whispering Canyon at WL
Well, I wouldn't say it is the perfect venue for the shy, but it is loads of fun! We stayed at the WL last October and my two kids (3 and 7) had a blast. It also depends on the waiter/waitress you get. We had completely different experiences with each one... one brought us a lot of attention, and the other was quite mild. (Just don't ask for ketchup!!!)
Keep in mind that the lodge also has a cafeteria style snack bar and a more upscale restaurant as other options. We ate at the Whispering Canyon only a few times during our week-long stay.
Good luck!

Re: Whispering Canyon at WL
We were there in December and absolutely fell in love with the Wilderness Lodge!! Please don't deny yourself the opportunity to stay at this fantastic resort because of a little shyness!
With Whispering Canyon there are actually two seating areas - the main area where lots of hootin' and hollerin' take place and a smaller area (which is thru the main dining area onto a smaller "porch") You can request to be seated back there as we did since my DS, age 4, is very shy. There's a beautiful stone fireplace and you look out into the lobby - we still had great food and terrific service from our 'Cousin Tom' - if you see him say "howdy" for us!
Roaring Forks is their version of a food court (about 1/4 the size of the All-Stars) but you can get good food reasonably quick.
Have a wonderful time!

Re: Whispering Canyon at WL
We were there last year, and I'm not an overly overt person, and didn't have any problems. I think for the most part they leave you alone (as long as you don't ask for the ketchup ) We had just missed the kid's games, so we didn't do that either. I'd say go for it, it's a great place to eat

Re: Whispering Canyon at WL
Do not deny yourself the beauty that is WL because of Whispering Canyon. True, it is not for the shy, but in our multiple experiences here, the CM's don't bother you if you have just gotten your food, are truly shy and if you don't ask for ketchup.

Re: Whispering Canyon at WL
Everybody said what I was thinking. You don't have to go along with the antics. My son got totally embarrassed when our waiter yelled for the attention of all the diners to see that "Josh is a member of the clean plate club". My son's face was bright red, but that didn't stop him from asking for seconds, which we weren't charged for, but would have gladly paid.
The few times I have been, some one has asked for ketchup, but it didn't seem like the diners played along.
Don't miss out on this superb place, the meatloaf is to die for!

Re: Whispering Canyon at WL
WE've eaten there twice and adore the WL. THe first time our server was a little on the "hyper: side, but the second time we were seated in a quiet area near the fireplace and all was lovely. I think that if you don't "feed into it all" right at the beginning you'll be great! The food is great!!

You can ask to sit in a quiet section of the restaurant. This is what DH and I did. And we had a really nice time.
DH and I stayed at the WL for 2 weeks. It is the most fantastic place to stay. We both love the WL.

Re: Whispering Canyon at WL
We had a wonderful, fun lunch there on our last trip.
Our waitress (I believe, Tina) was fun but not too
rowdy. They did have stick horse races and the kids
seemed to be having a great time. The food was great
too.

Re: Whispering Canyon at WL
Just because you are staying at WL doesn't mean you have to eat at Whispering Canyon. There are two other resturants at WP...one is Artists Pointe and the other one I think is a counter service resturant (I can't remember the name). A WL you are close to many other resorts. MK is just a boatride away and from there you can hop on the monorail and head to Poly, Contemporary or GF. Fort Wilderness is also just a boatride away and there is at least one resturant at FW (and they also have Mickey's Backyard Bar-b-que.
We ate at Whispering Canyon for Christmas Dinner in 2002. Just from that experience I can tell you if you are the least bit shy Whispering Canyon might not be for you. This poor lady in the table next to us was talking to someone on her cell phone and the waitress stood right next to her pointed and yelled, "Please, everyone be quiet. She is talking on her cell phone." As the lady melted in her chair the waitress kept repeating herself. I kind of felt bad for her. *LOL*
