Girls' Work and Play Getaway (or "Two Moms Play in Disney World") - COMPLETED! - Page 6 - PassPorter - A Community of Walt Disney World, Disneyland, Disney Cruise Line, and General Travel Forums
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

I love all your pictures. I too love Morocco - it does really feel like your somewhere else. Sorry you got lonely. Loved the back story about Dinoland!!

I can relate to everything you said about traveling solo. I've done a little touring solo which I loved for taking pictures and freedom to do what I wanted but definitely felt something was missing with not being able to share the magic with someone. I have never met with a face character for just the same things you were worried about. Maybe one day I'll get the nerve! Loved your trip report and pictures. Thanks for sharing!
Tonight I have met a goal 5 years in the making... Being all done with packing and ready to go on a Disney triop before midnight! We leave at 5-ish in the morning and the car is packed, and everyone is done. The kids are downstairs watching tv - they've never been able to sleep before a trip, so planned to "not fight it" and relax. I'm okay with that - tomorrow we'll relax at the pool and maybe hit DTD
"Ultra-mini PTR" - Castaway Cay Sandwich: The Fab Four return to Disney world in September. We will stay for 4 nights at AKL-Kidani, sail on the Dream for 4 nights, then return to Disney World and stay at the Boardwalk Villas for another 4 nights The kids will take one online class and will participate in one Disney Youth Education Program day. Because they have to "have school" during vacation, I am surprising them with the last 4 nights and a first time at MNSSHP They have no idea, hee hee! (This is also to make up for a past attempted surprise/fiasco, i.e. "You're going to Disney World!" "No way, we're not that gullible.")
Anyways, I wanted to just put this TR to bed before I go. That way, I can be ready to write another one when we come back. I will try try try to write better notes this time! Actually, I plan to use my phone to dictate as I go. I also plan to only use my iPhone this time, as I'm leaving my big mama DSLR at home
Final thoughts:
1. I LOVED traveling with my very good friend Katie. She's an awesome nurse and a big Disney fan, both of which were perfect for this trip. We got to catch up and talk for hours and I think that was the best part
2. I really like Coronado Springs Resort - more than I thought I would, and in spite of our room mishap. It's a really pretty resort, nicely spread out, with buses to make up for it. The food and drinks were great, and the convention there was awesome. I'd definitely stay there again.
3. Getting to drink around the World was something I'd only get to do while traveling with my buddy and it was a very adult way to experience Disney!
4. I tried so many new things, wow! It's hard to list them all. Stand-outs: the Morocco Pavilion, Festival of Fantasy, and Hollywood Brown Derby Lounge #sliders
5. We were EXHAUSTED. I didn't talk too much about it, but we really were. I couldn't figure out why, until I realized that normally when we visit Disney, we go in the morning, take an afternoon break or snooze, then go back out in the evenings. Katie and I were on the go from the time we got up, until late at night. By the the last day, I really was looking forward to going home - to rest!
6. and finally... going solo. I finally got to do what I wanted to do, and it wasn't as enjoyable as I thought it'd be . I think the reason is that I didn't get to immediately share with someone else what I ate or did or saw. It was weird not talking to anybody, especially surrounded by hundreds of people! Ideally, maybe I'd like to visit a park by myself, while the boys are doing something like Disney Quest, then we'd all get together and tell each other all about it. I also think maybe I was just tired...
Well that's it! I hope you enjoyed all the pictures and tolerated my blathering See ya real soon!
Greatly enjoyed your report. I can relate to all of your thoughts about going solo and meeting characters, too. I think going Solo is easier once the kids are grown and out of the house.
Your new trip - which starts today, I think - sounds wonderful. So glad you will be doing a Fab Four TR.
Loved the report and especially love that you're on your way to another family trip we'll get to read about! I understand your feelings about solo travel. I'm sure I'd feel the same if my "normal" were being with a family. My normal is being alone, so it takes some adjusting for me to be traveling with others. I enjoy both kinds of trips, but miss my alone time if I'm traveling with others. Hope the Fab Four have a great trip! Can't wait to see the reaction to the extra nights and party.
Great wrap up. Sorry that you got hit a bit by the lonely blues. I will say I really enjoy some time solo when I am traveling but I also enjoy knowing that I can go and find the rest of my party once the "solo" mood is gone.
I think having some solo time when the boys do something else might work perfectly for you on your next trip (one that is coming up real soon) and with the extra 4 days surprise and MNSSHP you will definitely deserve it.
Thanks for sharing your trip, can't wait to read your next one.

Great last day and final thoughts! Sorry you had some lonely moments but I'm glad you got to experience a solo day and accomplished just what you wanted at MK! Thanks for sharing with us and hope you're having a great time on your new trip!
Well I have finally been able to catch up and finish this TR and now you are off again. Everything sounded nice on this trip except feeling a little lonely that last day. Now I'm off to check out the new TR
