As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!
Welcome! We're happy you've found the PassPorter Community -- the friendliest place to plan your vacation to Walt Disney World, Disney Cruise Line, Disneyland, and the world in general! Ok, I have lots of questions. I feel like I have changed my reservations thousands of times
I am taking my 3 children ages 13, 9, and 6 to Disney World. We are doing a split stay. We arrive on Oct 29 at 11:25 pm on our flights. We are staying at Port Orleans in a Royal Room until Nov. 1.
The first question I have is the benefits of early check-in! What happens if we do this check in but our plan does not arrive until later in the day on the 30th? Will I still be responsible for the first day? Also, is there someone at the hotel that will deliver our luggage over to our room or will we have to carry it the whole way?
The plans I have scheduled right now for this part is:
Oct. 29 Fly in at 11:25 pm check-in to Port Orleans
Oct. 30 Epcot with late lunch at Via Napoli Ristorante
Oct. 31 Ohana for Breakfast, Swim at the hotel, lunch at Planet Hollywood, and then off to MNSSHP. I booked a reservation for my girls at the BBB but don't know if I will keep it. It is at 7:35.
Nov. 1 We Check out
This leads to my second question. We switch hotels to the Caribbean Hotel. Do we load up on the bus with our luggage and them take us over or will we have to find a different mode of transportation to take us and our luggage go on the bus?
Also I was wondering tipping ideas? I am trying to keep aside a certain amount of cash and have it all prepared before I leave on what to tip. I figured $5 a day for mousekeeping, but when should I tip for our luggage? The last time we drove so no one handled it but us.
The second part of our leg is at the Caribbean Beach Hotel. We are staying here from Nov. 1 to Nov. 9 in a Pirate River Room.
Nov 1 We will go check in at Caribbean Beach, go to Blizzard Beach, and have dinner at Trails End
Nov 2 Hollywood Studios dinner at 50's Prime Time Cafe
Nov 3 Animal Kingdom dinner at Boatwright's Dining Hall
Nov 4 Free Day, Breakfast at Boma, Play Mini Golf, Disney Quest, dinner at Ohana
Nov 5 Epcot, Breakfast at Akershus and dinner at Teppan Edo
Nov 6 Magic Kingdom, I am surprising my kids with the Magic Kingdom Tour and dinner at Liberty Tree Tavern.
Nov 7 Free Day, Either Blizzard Beach or Disney Quest, eat lunch at T-Rex and then off to MVMCP if I can get tickets when I have the money (if not I have reservations for California Grill)
Nov 8 Park hop day but I want to be at Hollywood Studios for the Osborne Lights and dinner at Cape May Cafe, if not tired we will head to Magic Kingdom for the late night.
Nov 9 Free day until our plane leaves at 4 pm. I figured we could swim at hotel and then go to Blizzard Beach or Disney Quest if we still have another day pass.
The next question is can you see the fireworks plus can you see the Electric Water Parade from Ohana? Also, I have 2 reservations for Liberty Tree Tavern, but since this is the only actual night to see the normal parade can you watch it from Liberty Tree Tavern or should we eat before and go else where to watch the parade?
Am I trying to cram to much? I figured we would go at our own pace and enjoy the trip. I wanted to add a few fun things to the mix.
On the first part right now we do not have dining, but on the second we do. I will have about $200 in gift cards. I am planning on paying out of pocket for Boma breakfast, Planet Hollywood, Ohana breakfast, Via Napoli, and Trails End.

I'll try my best to answer your questions, but I might need a little more information to give you the best advice. Is this your first trip to WDW? Your children's first trip? How many days of tickets will you have and what options have you selected? I'm also wondering about how you're purchasing tickets as I'm assuming that the first stay is room-only and the second half is a package that requires a ticket purchase.
The easiest thing to answer is your question about check in. I am assuming you mean on-line check in. I would recommend it so the resort knows what time to expect you. I'm betting that you won't arrive at the resort until sometime on the 30th. You will have to claim your bags at MCO and then travel to the resort and that won't happen in less than half an hour. You will be charged for the 29th whether or not you do on-line check in. Check in on the 30th would be 3pm and I'm guessing that you'll want a room before then but regardless, if you have a reservation for the 29th you will be charged for it unless you cancel the reservation within the cancellation window.
Bell services should be able to deliver your luggage to the room. A guideline for a tip is $1-$2 per bag (consider how heavy they are when you decide on an amount). Disney will transport your luggage on the day you switch resorts so you won't have to tote it on the buses. Go to bell services and make arrangements.
As to your plans, a few things I would suggest:
1. Oct. 30 -This related to how you are purchasing tickets. You may be paying a premium to go to Epcot on this day (and you might not be there very long as you'll be pretty tired from traveling). I would consider doing mini-golf on this day and going to a resort restaurant. maybe Trail's End where you can see the EWP and (a not great but still a view) of Wishes.
2. Oct. 31 -Planet Hollywood is just eh IMO. As it's a MNSSHP day, I would skip it (and the travel to DTD it requires) and just get something at your hotel food court. I would also strongly reconsider a 7:35 BBB reservation. It will be a busy party night and BBB will take a fair amount of time, reducing the party activities you will be able to experience. I would focus on the party.
3. Nov. 1 Make this an Epcot day and eat at Via Napoli.
4. Nov. 8th is the only day you will park hop and you indicate that you might not feel like it. If you have paid for hoppers, I would reconsider them. If you decide you [I]really[I] want to park hop on that day, you can always add them on that day.
5. You can see the fireworks from O'hana if you have a window seat (that might be a big "if"). I don't think you'll get much of a view of the EWP. I don't believe you will have any view of the parade at LTT.
6. I think you have a nice balance of park days and "other" days. The only thing I might question is whether or not your kids will be willing to do 2 TS on a park day (Nov. 5). The timing of the meals would be important. ADRs eat a chunk of park touring time. This will likely depend on whether or not they have visited WDW before.
Did I cover it all? Be sure to come back and ask if not.

Okay, I'll try to tackle this....Online check in usually means less waiting in line when you arrive at the resort. They will already have a check-in packet waiting for you, you can get it and then head off to do what you want. I have sometimes, waited in a shorter line when having done online check-in and also have once waited in a much longer line, lol.
Part #2...I'm not sure what you mean by what if I don't arrive until the 30th...are you afraid that your plane will be delayed? But yes, if you booked the room for the 29th, and don't arrive until the 30th, you will probably not be refunded the difference. But make sure you call and let them know what is going on so they don't think you are no-shows.
If you are arriving by Magical Express from the airport, just let them take your bags, that way you don't have to go to baggage claim, you can just get on the bus to the hotel. If you are arriving by car, then yes, you will park fairly close to your room then take your own bags. When you change resorts, if you have a car, it will be easier for you to transfer your own bags (that way you have access to them if you need them). If you don't the hotel can transfer them for you, but it takes a few hours (so make sure you have what you need for a while). Tip each person that handles your luggage.....we tip when we drop it off at bell services and when we pick it up.
*Edited* Sorry, I misread your arrival time...Yes, arriving that late you will have to pick up your own bags at baggage claim and take them with you. I have always gotten a luggage cart and taken my bags, but I suppose bell services can assist you too and arriving that late, I'm sure you will be tired and want the assistance
I think you can see some glimpses of the fireworks/water parade from O'hana, but only if you have a window seat. If you are not by the window, then no. At Liberty Tree, you can see the parade from the porch, but not inside, so I would plan dinner before the parade if you want to see it.
Also, for the meals you plan out of pocket, Figure about $100-$125 per meal plus tip. They are pricey!
As far as your plans, they look okay to me, just know that you can spend a lot of time in transit on the buses. Always allow for 2 hours to get to where you are going, but it rarely takes that long. The longest it has taken me to get anywhere is an hour, and it is always DTD.
If your flight arrives at 11:25 pm on the 29th, you will technically be arriving at the resort on the 30th because of travel time from the airport. The reservation is yours until check-out time usually around 11:00Am. It makes no difference what time you arrive between 3pm on the 29th and 11am on the 30th.
However if you anticipate not arriving until after 11am on he 30th you'll need to cancel the 29th reservation night before the cancellation deadline outlined in your confirmation.

Holly H, We have all been here before. This will be my trip 5. Jeremiah and Jodie this will be there 3 and Lillie will be her 2nd time. We went in Dec. 2012.
On our package for Oct 29-Nov 1 we have the Epcot one day pass. No hopper.
On our package for Nov 1- Nov 9 we will have the park hopper and have a 5 day pass. There are a few days I considered hoping I just don't know what we will be in the mood for or how busy the parks would be.
On Oct 30 I knew we would start a little late but I figured we might be more tired after MNSSHP so I figured we would do Epcot on this day. I was originally going to do a 5 day but since I split them up I decided to add a day
My son is the one who wanted to eat at Planet Hollywood. He enjoyed it with his dad 2 years ago and wanted to go back and eat there
Our reservation to Akershus is at 8 am Before park opening and should set us up to tour right after opening
I have considered not doing BBB and I may not. It was the only time that I could get on Halloween. I planned on arriving at the park early so we could ride some rides and eat a CS dinner. My girls did the BBB last time we went and loved it. I just thought it might be a fun incentive on Halloween (even though they are not technically wearing a costume)
Thanks everyone for your help.
When you tip for your luggage do you tip the people at the airport on Magical Express and the people at the hotel? Is it Magical Express that would take your luggage to your room or do they just drop you off at the hotel?
I guess since it is the end of Hurricane season I am a little worried our flights may be delayed or canceled. I hope this is not the case but wanted to check to see!

The reason I asked about the tickets is that, for your party, 1 day Epcot tickets will cost $558.06 and 5 day hoppers will cost $1508.04 for a total of $2066.10. 6 day hoppers (with your second package) will cost $1550.64........that's a savings of $515.46 to move your Epcot day from Oct. 30 to Nov. 1.
I am assuming that you are also buying the water park and more option as you mention water parks and Disney Quest. With the hoppers, that's a good deal. If by chance you aren't getting them, you should It'll only add $26 per ticket and, by your plans, you 'll get good use from them.
One question about BBB -what will your son do while the girls are at BBB? It might be frustrating for him to have to wait around for that and miss party activities in the process. Just something to consider when you make your choice.
You should tip all of the people who handle your luggage for you. The DME driver will get the bags on and off the bus. They will not bring them to your room (I would say $1/bag would be sufficient for DME driver). Bell services will bring the bags to the room. I would tip that person more than the DME driver as they will be moving your bags a greater distance and it will take them more time to do so.
Sorry, I discovered an error in my earlier calculations. The one day Epcot ticket price above included hoppers. One day base Epcot tickets for your party would be $387.66 + 5 day hoppers $1508.04 = $1895.70. 6 day hoppers would cost $1550.64. The savings for moving your Epcot day from Oct. 30 to Nov. 1 would be $345.06.

That's ok I have now decided to upgrade to the dining plan. I think with our reservations it will be more beneficial in the long run Plus with us staying on site we get the free refill mugs and with 2 days at the hotel I think they are well worth it!
we have done the last week in October first week in November I would not do bbb during the party it will waste a lot of time that the kids could be trick or treating. I also would not do a split stay you will be wasting an entire day of your vacation with moving from one resort to the other

I changed it all again We ended up on the first reservation buying the dining to go along with it. I just think it would be about the same amount of money when I actually sit down and looked at it and figured it would be less for me to worry about trying to figure what money will go where!
HollyH, I figure we could sit and relax for awhile. I was planning on trying to be at the park at 4 so we got a little time to ride rides since besides the party we only have one day here Thanks for the tip information because I have been lost on all that. I think I now have all the cash saved for our tips except for restaurants and I plan to use those on a gift card I had actually considered that but I wanted to have something to do! I was trying to plan a few days at parks and then have a free day. I know it will be a late start to the morning but I was trying to stay away from weekends with food and wine going on, due to the fact of crowd levels. I don't know what the difference would be but since it is just the kids and I felt that was the safest
bsblady1, from what I hear switching hotels is easy! I had to do a split stay because the Port Orleans did not come out with free dining this year and it saved me lots of $$$$! I have thought about canceling, I was not for sure that I wanted to do the BBB The park that I would go to is the water park for a few hours. Our flights are not until after 4 so I figured if we were back at our hotel by 1 we would be find. If the water park opens at 10 then we could do an hour or hour and a half and still have a little time to grab something quick to eat. If I don't feel that we will have time then we will just stay at the hotel and take advantage of the hotels pools
you have to be at the bus stop for magical express 30 min before pickup time just remember you will not have access to a shower after you swim on your last day

I will check into it. Unfortunately I don't think that I would mind not having a shower if we went swimming as long as I have a brush My hair will air dry and I am not picky on Having it fixed This vacation is for my kiddos I enjoy Disney and the last time I went my little Jodie got very sick We missed a lot of the parks because she would get tired very easily after she was better. I am looking forward to this trip so we can relax and enjoy without the 13 other people that went on the last one This one is all about us
