I need some costume ideas for the party. It will be hubby, myself and our 3 yr old son. We are flying so what ever we take can't be bulky. Its the end of sept and it will be hot and muggy so minimalistic is preferred. I'm not that creative in thinking up ideas but can dulicate/adapt ideas fairly well. Any and all suggestions on what has worked for your family or ideas you've seen would be greatly appreciated.

I would avoid costumes which require face paint. The face paint will only run in the humidity.

My wife, son, and I usually alter a look for our MNSSHP costume. We dressed as Buzz (son), Jessie, and Woody once. I wore blue jean shorts, a yellow shirt with a similar pattern to Woody's shirt, made a quick vest from cow print fabric and bought a cowboy hat and badge from a costume shop. My wife used the same jeans shorts idea and made very short (shorts length) chaps from the cow print fabric.
Another time we dressed as Mickey (son), Minnie, and Goofy. All with color matching (to the actual character) costumes.

Try to picture how any costume how it will look in pictures using the Florida weather to alter the sleeve and pants lengths to shorts and short sleeved shirts.

My husband picked Charlie Brown, just black shorts and a yellow tshirt he added the jagged stripe. I made a blue dress that looked like Lucy's. The whole family could dress like the gang and its cool clothing.

It's so hot there during the parties. There are SO MANY Pirates,and wenches, that's so overdone. Something light and cool is what we're going for.

I like to look on Etsy and Pintrest for ideas. We're going in late October and
can't wait to dress up.

This past year I saw lots of families with just costume t-shirts (I saw superheroes and Muppets and Disney characters, some store-bought, some homemade) and also families with costume hats only. I think this is a great idea since you don't have to wear a costume all day or go back to the room and change, and if it is really hot, you won't have to worry about discomfort. And they are usually much cheaper to make or buy than a full costume. (Nothing worse than spending big money on a princess gown that your little princess takes off in 10 minutes because she's itchy or hot, etc.)

Last year, my husband and I wore scrubs and had stethoscopes. On our scrubs it said. "Laughter is the best medicine" in glow-in-the-dark paint. We also gave away glow bracelets. We had so much fun!

We are considering going as some of the Phineas and Ferb characters - Orange striped shirt with denim shorts, white shorts/skirt with red sleeveless shirt, Punisher T-shirt with khaki shorts, etc. Thought something like this would be easy and comfortable.

Saw many people in lab coats as Dr. Doof when we last went to the party a couple of years ago.

My mother and I are going and we are designing a iron on print for tee shirts. That way it is something we can cont to wear AND be festive. Shirts from a fabric store are super cheap and all you have to do is print and iron on. SUPER easy!
