I want to go for my Anniversary but...[hesitant husband] - PassPorter - A Community of Walt Disney World, Disneyland, Disney Cruise Line, and General Travel Forums
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

I want to go for my Anniversary but...[hesitant husband]
Here's my story.
DH and I never took a honeymoon and we are going on 12 years of marriage now. We've also never been away from the kids for more 3 nights.
For our 12th anniversary we have decided that we are getting away for a minimum of 4 nights. Preferably 5. We'd both like to go to WDW however here's the problem...
I don't like roller coasters. I don't like the feeling of taking sharp corners, drops and fast takeoffs. I don't do spins, I don't even enjoy Test Track with the fast banking. DH and the kids are roller coaster fans. Big ones!! Here's the problem: DH doesn't want to go to WDW if he has to ride roller coasters alone.
We both know there is more to WDW than coasters but enjoying Expedition Everest & Rock n Roller Coaster are some of my DH's favorite things to do there. I've ridden EE once 2 years ago and didn't enjoy the sensation. I'm going on Big Thunder Mountain in a few weeks but am not looking forward to it.
How do I get over this roller coaster hate? Is it possible? Help!! Suggestions are appreciated. He does so much for the family and I'd love to find a way to make this happen for him (and me). Otherwise I guess it's off to the beach (and I can't swim ).
First of all, let me say you crack me up. There are a lot of people who do not like roller coasters for one reason or another and I'm in that camp with you (though I do love TT and I can handle BTMRR and Splash Mountain...but I could never deal with Goofy's Barnstormer - ha!) I have never ridden a ride in the single rider line but off the top of my head my advice would be to tell him to go in the single rider line and be paired with another single rider (if possible) and you're just going to put your feet up or shop or hang out and wait...no problem.
It's so important to carve time out for yourselves sometimes. I would hate to have roller coasters come between that.
I am so with you on this, although I'm OK on Test Track, but the big ones like Rock'n'Roller Coaster, Space Mountain etc. : way will I get on those. I have become braver over the years - 10 years ago, I wouldn't touch Big Thunder, but now I will do it.
I'm not sure what I can say, as I know there is absolutely nothing that would get me on some of the big rides and I've come to my limit with Expedition Everest - the last time I rode it, it made me feel ill and I had a similar bad experience with Tower of Terror at Disneyland Paris. If it's going to make you feel bad, then I honestly don't see the point. If it's a case of conquering your fear, then it's do-able, but to me, it sounds like more than that - you just don't enjoy them and I'm not sure it's worth putting yourself through it. The only thing I can suggest is a compromise is maybe to do a milder one or two - perhaps Test Track?
Well if it's a 12 year anniversary you're going to Disney to celebrate, then shouldn't the DH understand that since it's the two of you and you don't do rollercoasters, then this trip can be rollercoaster-free?
This trip should be more about the two of you and doing the "easy going" rides, eating at some fabulous restaurants, finding a quiet spot to stop and have a drink while enjoying the ambiance, etc.
Obviously, you know your hubby best, but that would be my "argument" if my DH was trying to get out of going to WDW just because he was going to be limited in doing some things because of something on my part! LOL
There is so much to do at Disney other than the small handful of rollercoasters that the parks actually have. I mean if you were thinking of heading to US or IoA and didn't want to hit any of the more extreme rides (which is practically all of them! ), then I could see him being hesitant on wanting to go to that particular destination.
Definitely talk it over with him. Let him know how important heading to WDW is to you for this anniversary and let him know about all of the other alternatives there are to just the rollercoasters. Show him the menus, show him maps of the resorts, show him the pools, etc.
Thanks gals. I guess I have more pondering to do. I guess I will have to really think about it after I ride Big Thunder Mountain. If I can handle that okay I will try Expedition Everest again and go from there.
I will report back after Christmas with the results.
At least your husband wants to go. Mine doesn't. D: He has all these opinions about Disney as a company and won't accept there's anything good about the place. He doesn't understand why I love the place so much. Of course he's never gone.

It's fun to go to WDW for your anniversary my wife Dawn and I did it for our first wedding anniversary and now we are doing it for our second wedding anniversary.
My wife and I are going for our 30th anniv in Sept. We had the same discussion because I don't like upside down coasters and she does. I will sit out for RR coaster and do the rest for her.
