Okay to do this - valet park at WL, rent bikes, have lunch then go to MK - PassPorter - A Community of Walt Disney World, Disneyland, Disney Cruise Line, and General Travel Forums
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

Okay to do this - valet park at WL, rent bikes, have lunch then go to MK
When we go to Disney, Lenny wants to go and rent a surrey bike and we've decided to try for it at WL. I read somewhere it's flat, shady and quiet - three words that got my attention. Right now, I'm thinking we'll valet park at the resort (we always valet anyway), we'll rent the bike, then we'll check out Roaring Forks for lunch. After, we want to go the MK and I'm thinking if Lenny already has his scooter out (I think he might need to use it to get to the bikes), then couldn't we just go back to the marina and take the boat to the MK instead of breaking down the scooter, moving to the TTC, putting the scooter back together, then taking whatever and then getting to the MK? Especially since we'll valet, would this be frowned upon?
I would ask when you go through the gate at WL. They can tell you the answer. I am thinking that when we were there they had the smaller boats. You aren't able to put the ECV's on them....but don't hold me to that, I could be real wrong! You could however, if they let you leave the car there, take the bus over to MK and he could ride the ECV onto the bus.

I think it depends upon the time of year and timing for the boats. I know once when we took the boats from the MK to FW, for both FW and WL launches, they were using both sizes and they were alternating (one small one would load then the next boat would be the larger launch, then the small one etc). I too was thinking if we could leave the car but not use the boat, the bus would work too. The boats more fun but for that short of a distance, I'd be fine with the bus.
Valet parking is free for people with a valid handicap parking placard or car tags, Eileen, which I'm guessing Lenny has.
We really appreciated that perk last fall.
I think I'd be concerned myself about leaving our car in valet parking at a resort where we weren't staying to go on to a park if the resort where we used valet parking typically gets conventions or other large groups likely to take up lots of parking spaces. WL doesn't have a convention facility though, or does it?
I'm guessing Darlene might be wondering if people think doing this would be taking advantage. Was that part of the concern?

I think it's looked at like you're paying for parking as a valet customer, so it's different from those people who drive in and try to park at the resort all day "due to an ADR," for example, but end up wanting to go to a park. The busier times of year or the convention resorts (like BC) will usually limit access to their parking lots to the resort's guests only. So as long as there's availability -- whether you pay or can get a complimentary spot with said valid disability-parking permit -- you should be ok.
I thought that valet was treated differently than regular parking because you are paying for it. I think I would ask when I got to WL how long you could park with valet without necessarily mentioning the park. If they say all day or until midnight or whatever, then you're good to go. My husband, who uses a scooter, loves the boat from MK to FTW and WL. It's one of his favorite WDW attractions!

Wilderness Lodge does not have a convention center.
You will be fine to use valet and then go to the MK from the WL. I don't think anyone would really know that you are using this perk that comes along with valet service so it shouldn't bother anyone.
I love taking the boat from WL to the MK and I've never even stayed there!
It's scary how well you seem to know me when we've never met in person. That is a big part of my concern.
Naw, I just remember that when I posed a similar question about our using valet parking at the monorail deluxes to get to the MK when we weren't staying at any of those resorts, you said something along the lines of that not really being "kosher."
It makes a difference, IMO, that you plan to eat lunch at WL and then rent a surrey bike. You're actually using the resort's amenities whereas I was asking about nothing but parking the car and going straight to the MK.
So, I guessed maybe you were concerned that what you were asking might be along the lines of unfair use of valet parking.
No worries. I'm not THAT good a mind reader.

I didn't even remember that post - I went and searched for it just now. I guess I should take my own advice and just not do it . We may change our plans anyway because the more I think about it, the thing more concerning to me than the parking is whether Lenny could actually pedal the surrey with no problems (leg pains or chest pains). While it sounds like it would be a nice relaxing way to start the day, there's nothing relaxing when Lenny is in pain. Plus too, I have another idea in mind which would put us in the park (parking at the TTC ) to begin with.
