As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:

It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.

Well well well guess who got picked again to run Washington DC next April?
Im shocked really! I went to the Facebook page yesterday and saw people buzzing about how they were finding pending charges on their credit cards.....lo and behold, I went to mine, and there was a pending charge too! About an hour later, I got the email saying "Congratulations!"
I thought that my chances were better for I would be a "legacy" runner, but there were posts from others who did run it last year and didnt get picked. I wonder if because I have my hubby running with me this year if that had something to do with it too? Id really love to know their system on how they pick people when they put their names in the lottery for here and other places like Boston.
Either way, Im going back to DC! Now my hubby will look pretty with his Tiffany necklace too!

Boston isn't a lottery (technically), you have to have a qualifying time in order to get your entry into Boston. New York and the Marine Corps Marathon would be two of the biggest lottery marathons though

New York just opened their lottery for their marathon the other day.....maybe one day I will put my name in it, but not anytime soon.
I also think that the Tiffy box and finishers shirt will bring out the blue in his eyes more
Amazing though as you read some of the comments on the Facebook page, some are thankful, some are bummed and then there are the nasties. Saying that they are going to boycott Nike, how its not fair, how they should have given them favoritism because they live in the DC area and so on. Some came back with comments of their own saying that the word "lottery" is just as it is, luck of the draw. I didnt get picked the first time around, yeah I was bummed but I didnt leave a nasty comment on Nike's Facebook page. Eventually I got picked in the second draw around March and was able to enjoy the race and get a PR!
The same nasties were flying around with Dumbo too....amazing in doing something that is good for you, and gives you the "feel good" endorphins, how ugly they can be if they dont get in the race to begin with.

It does amaze how cranky some people get. I know that when you train you have a goal in mind and if you don't get into the race you obviously can't reach that goal. However, when you enter a race that has a lottery system you need to remember you may need a back-up plan so you can reach that goal.
I can't believe the people who put their names in lottery for the Kona Ironman World Championships. They pay several hundred dollars and don't get that money back. They know won't get the money back, but they enter the lottery anyway. Guess, what? They complain about that when they don't get picked. Shocking, right?
Did you watch that on TV, Robin? Wasn't that bit about that Pittsburgh Steelers player kind of funny? He thought he was a tough ball player and could easily do IronMan. On a running-training day, he called up his trainer asking if he actually has to go run outside because it was raining that day. Hilarious!! He pulled through and finished in the end, but I thought the beginning was funny. Amazing stories from some of those athletes!

It doesn't surprise me when people get all bent out of shape when things don't go their way. Far too may people feel entitled to something, or really feel like they should make an exception in MY case, ahead of all others. Ignoring the fact that there are many, many others in the exact same boat.
I'm "lucky" in that because I'm a disabled runner, I don't have to go into the lottery system for the New York marathon, and I'm guaranteed entry. And for Boston, my qualifying time, instead of being about 3:20ish is actually 5:00. So yeah, I get so very few perks to being blind, I like to take them when I can
