As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.

Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:

PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!

She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. Anyone had Lasik done? I'm scheduled to have it done on November 9th. I've been in glasses for 18+ years and I'm just kind of sick of glasses/contacts. My DH had it done just after our 2012 trip and he's been pretty happy with it. I also know several others who love it. I think I will really like not having to deal with glasses/contacts especially when we go to WDW in 2014. My main problem? GOOGLE! I've been doing a bit of research and now I'm paranoid about it. It's FDA approved, but then it sounds like it's in question. And the side effects could be really bad and permanent. But then everyone I talk to is happy they did it. I just can't decide what to do. If you've had it done are you happy with the results? Disappointed? Have extreme complications? I'm going to be using the same surgeon as my husband so that comforts me a little.

Due to their age, they each had extensive tests before hand to ensure that their eyes were ready for the procedure. Their doctor guarantees his work and if their eyes change and need to be redone, it is at no cost. For us, no one had any complications. As with any medical procedure there are risks but our family could not be happier. Good luck!

Thanks for sharing! That's pretty much what I've heard from most people. I was tested and told I was a candidate. I waited until I was done having children as they say your eyes change during pregnancy. My DH said he still has a little glare at night. Or maybe it's called halos. He said it doesn't really bother him, but it was bad for a while. I would just hate to mess up my vision. I really like seeing things.

It's fine to go to find out about others experiences, especially with your surgeon, but if you have any concerns ask your surgeon directly. Most of my husband's patients say they would have paid double for the surgery if they had known how life changing it is. You will love it!!

Just curious... What would you consider a "discount place"? I'm set up at LasikPlus. It is the same place my husband and several other people I know have gone. It's a big chain, but it's not one of those "$499 per eye" places either. When my husband had his done he had appointments at LasikPlus and at another smaller clinic in our town. Both quoted him the same and gave him the same assessment. Since he liked his Dr and is happy with his I only went to LasikPlus.
What are the most common complaints your husband hears of people post-op to a year post-op? My husband, while he is happy he had it done and has told me to go ahead and do it, has said that it isn't as "good" as he thought it would be. He still has halos at night to some extent, but he says it's manageable. He also had bad dry eye for MONTHS and sometimes still needs drops. I have a call with the surgeon tomorrow so I'll get more answers then. Thanks for the response!

My DH had this done in Sydney, Australia in 2005. He has not had any issues. Both eyes cost about AU$6000 back then. The procedure is much cheaper than that over here now. Good luck - it does change your life!

Thank you so much for the information. I think I've just got a bit of the pre-surgery jitters. 1 week from tomorrow I'm scheduled to have it done. I go back and forth on the matter, but I'm pretty confident I will LOVE not having to deal with glasses and contacts. It will be so nice to be able to see in the shower and in the middle of the night when the kids wake up it will be awesome to not have to fumble with my glasses to go and find a pacifier.

I had this done in 2007, and I absolutely love it! Although I did not have Lasik. I had PRK - Photorefractive Keratectomy. I was all set for Lasik, did all the exams and tests for it. But prior to surgery, I could not wear my contacts for 4 days or something, standard procedure. I forget now, it may have been 7 days. So after 4 (or 7) days of wearing glasses, I went back to the DR for the final exam and prep info. After a lengthy exam, they discovered that the shape of my corneas changed. Apparently they were so accustomed to having contacts on them, that with the 4 (or 7) days of being "free," they changed back to a more natural shape which was much too thin for Lasik.
So then I learned all about PRK. I was told the procedure takes a little longer but overall it's considered safer (due to no "cutting"). Recovery went pretty well. I remember being sore those first few hours. And it took maybe 2 days before I could see clearly. Clearly!!! And I have really bad astigmatism in my right eye. It's still there a bit and my right eye is still weaker than my left, but not by much. Obviously, I have no Lasik to compare it to, but it really was absolutely fine! After wearing glasses and/or contacts for 24 years, this was soo cool!! To wake up and just open your eyes and actually be able to see. Such a concept!

Thanks for sharing! I'm still a little nervous about it, but I'm pretty sure I'll be happy. The more I mention it to people the more I realize I know a lot of people who have had it done. They all LOVE IT! Except my husband. He likes it, but he's just not "wowed".
