Forums Closed
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.

So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.

Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.

And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.

We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.

There are other changes as well.

Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:

We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.

It's time to move on and move forward.

PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.

But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.

So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.

And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.

That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.

Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!

If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.

So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

Best wishes for a wonderful and magical new year!

What's the best way to get to Cape May Cafe?

We're staying at POFQ, and are having dinner at Cape May Cafe on a "non-park" day.

What's the most efficient way to get to Beach Club?

Is it best to go to DTD and catch a bus, or should we go to Epcot and then catch the friendship?

Have you ever done this?

You could take a bus to DHS and take the boat (or walk -but it is a longish walk). Do not go to Epcot if this is a non-park day and you don't want to use a park ticket. You would have to walk thru Epcot then take the boat and/or walk to the BC via the International Gateway. The DHS route does not require a park ticket.

Edited to add: If you don't mind using a park ticket, a bus to Epcot then a walk thru the park and walk to BC is a good option. IMHO, either the DHS or Epcot option is better than the DTD option.

We have recently done this while staying a POR. We took the bus to DHS and took the boat to Y&BC.
You could also take a bus or the boat from POFQ to DTD and then a bus to Y&BC. Just remember that Y&BC usually shares the same buses as BWV and Swan & dolphin - so there might be stops along the route - it is probably the same time either way. I think if I had to do it again - I would suck it up and take a cab - it took us almost an hour to get to Cape may Cafe.

Oh my! I didn't realize that I would have to enter Epcot to catch a boat. I pictured it more like Magic Kingdom - where you can catch a boat or monorail to the Grand Floridian without entering MK.

REALLY glad I asked this question!!! Thank you!

Good information to have! I didn't realize there was a boat from DHS to Y&BC as well.

A little embarrassed to admit, but I've never taken a cab in my life, so I'm a little intimidated. I don't know how it all works... how much I can expect to pay for a trip from POFQ to Y&BC... how much to tip.

On our last trip to WDW, we ate at Cape May for dinner one evening (it was a GREAT meal BTW). We took the bus to DHS, and the boat to BC.

I don't think it was epecially quick, but we weren't in a hurry as we had planned for this type of transportation.

We considered the journey part of the evening's activities. We enjoyed the boat ride and it allowed us to see part of WDW we normally wouldn't.

I think that the boat ride from DHS to YC/BC is rather nice myself. It is especially pretty at night (when the Boardwalk is all lit up).

I'm so happy to hear that you loved the meal! We absolutely love seafood, and have always wanted to try CMC. We're finally getting our chance!

The nice part about our plan that day, is that there is no plan. We're just going to relax, hang around the pool/hot tub, maybe do a little shopping at DTD -- so we won't be worried too much about hurrying. Oh, and I completely agree about the journey being part of the fun.

I'm hoping someone can also tell me about taking a taxi, since I've never done it before -- just in case we might want to take one back to our resort after dinner.

We've taken the boat to DTD and then a bus to BC to get to Cape May and luckily we gave ourselves enough time because it took FOREVER!
The boatride to DTD is always a pleasure, but after boarding the bus we made a stop in Pleasure Island (which is a shift change stop so you may or may not have to wait for a new driver which can take 10-15 minutes) then had about three additional stops at Swan, Dolphin, and I think Boardwalk (or maybe it was Yacht club) before finally arriving at Beach Club. It was quite a trip!

I know how you feel about taking a cab. I feel the same way. But all you have to do is ask the door person at POFQ and they will direct you. There is a transportation desk outside and they will call a cab for you.
The taxi fare estimator says about $10 from POFQ to BC. Add a couple dollar tip and your done! Mears Transportation Group - Taxi Service
(You have to put in the addresses of the resorts, as they are not included in the pull-down.)

I've always loved the boat to DTD from POFQ. It's such a nice break from the busses.

Thanks for the taxi information, and thanks for the link. We may consider using a taxi on the way back, if we're super tired or just want to get home faster. That doesn't seem too bad for a ride back to our resort.

Yes, the Boardwalk is across the water from YC/BC. Not sure what time your ADR is but you might want to take some time after you meal to explore the Boardwalk. It can be a fun place, with entertainers and such out and about.

Also, know that you can walk from BC to the Boardwalk. That isn't necessarily obvious if you haven't been there before. It seems like you have to take the boat but if you walk from BC toward Epcot, you will see a bridge on your right that leads to the BW.

We have a pretty early ADR (5:25 pm), so we could possibly do a little exploring. My DH grew up in NJ, so he would probably get a kick out of seeing Disney's take on an old-fashioned boardwalk!

Cool! The only time I went to the Boardwalk was to run into the bakery for red velvet cupcakes, so I didn't get to see much of it because we were in a hurry to get back to the resort for a party.
