Disney or Bust- A Celebration of Life- October 5th-12th 2012.... - Page 6 - PassPorter - A Community of Walt Disney World, Disneyland, Disney Cruise Line, and General Travel Forums
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

Sorry to hear about your FIL. We went to Disney 6 months after losing my husband's father and honestly it felt good to smile and laugh again because it had taken it's toll on our family. I hope everything else works out. When it rains it pours!
I also love Melting Pot. I want to take my dad there because it's soooo good but he says he doesn't want to go out to eat and have to cook his own food
I'm so sorry to hear about Buddy. for a quick and easy recovery. It's good that it's fixable though. There's a Buddy (a black lab mix) in class who recently was diagnosed with Lyme disease and his owner is actually happy. She'd rather have it be treatable than something like old age that is permanent.
Can't wait to read more
Oh goodness! Is that a picture of your dog in your signature? I love huskies. They are awesome dogs and it was the first dog that my family owned when I was little. Cute story behind that one. I was 2 and terrified of animals. Dogs, cats it didn't matter. Then we went to visit my Aunt in Michigan.
Well, she owned a Husky and my parents said that I was terrified of it when I first saw it. Well, by the end of the trip they went to find me and I was cuddled up with her in bed. LOL! On the drive back they stopped someplace that had a black bear in the exhibit. My parents said that they caught me right before I went through the bars. I guess I got over my fear really quick. Now I love animals. LOL!!
I am glad that it's something that's treatable. It was just hard hearing that he needed surgery.
Thanks for the encouragement. I needed it.

Thanks! I think we need this trip. It's been hard on our whole family and he did tell my husband that he wanted us to take a trip to Disney. He knows that we all enjoy it and he wants us to have fun again. You only know what kind of toll it takes on a family when you go through it.
Sorry about your FIL also.

Thanks for all of the pixie dust. I do believe that it worked and it is definitely appreciated.
Okay, so Buddy had his surgery on Friday. We picked him up on Saturday and he was already trying to walk on it. The vet tech even made a comment about it. She was surprised and said that most dogs don't walk on it so quickly. I told her that he's very stubborn and determined to do things that most dogs wouldn't. LOL!!
We kept him crated for the last two days. Mostly for his safety. Because he loves to sleep on our bed and the couch. He can't jump up on the bed. It's not good for his knee. I could tell that he wanted to be out with us. Because he kept whining. Well, DH decided that as long as he isn't licking his sore, which he did and we had to put a cone on him, that he could be out with us. I'm sitting on the couch now and he's laying at my feet.
As for the AC, well that's some good news. Maybe. DH had one of the girls that he works with's husband come and check it out. Apparently our duct work sucks. We've got holes in spots and then in other spots there is no insulation. Ugh..... Fortunately it's not going to cost a fortune to fix. So that's something to be grateful for. I'm just mad that no one ever bothered to check it out. It would have saved me some money if they would have.
Got my voucher today for the Photopass Plus. I'm super excited about it and can't wait to turn it in for our lanyard and card.
Thanks for reading and commenting. I appreciate you sticking with me through all of the ranting. LOL!

Okay, so we aren't getting our ac fixed right now.The company wanted over $1700 to do the work and I'm not comfortable with paying them that right now. How it went from $300 to over a thousand is beyond me, but DH went to Home Depot and bought some stuff to make a quick repair to the spots that have holes and to insulate the other parts. Hopefully that will do until after vacation. I've lived with this for 5 years, a few more months won't hurt.
I decided that I'm going to get another tattoo. Going to talk to my artist today. I made DH laugh when I told him that I was going to get a tattoo of Ariel. He knows how much I love her and I can relate to her. So, I was looking for a new design and found one that I wanted to get. I'm going to talk to my artist today and will post a picture when it's done.
We found a new place for Buddy to stay during our October Disney trip. It's more like a pet hotel than it is a kennel. The place is amazing. It has acrylic floors. No nasty concrete. The room that we picked has a tv in the room as well as a web cam so that I can check on him while we are on vacation. Yeah, I'm a bit overprotective, but I slacked off once and he paid the price for it. I'm not going to make that mistake again. They even noted the issue with his knees so that they will give him extra TLC while he's there.
Well, I'm going to get ready for the day. Hope everyone has a great day!

Just getting caught back up. Love the calendar! Sorry you have been having such a difficult time but glad you are already PIF so you can still go on your much need trip! A need to go to WDW totally makes sense to me!

Thanks for reading!! I've just decided that I'm going to take things one day at a time. Nothing that I'm going through is life threatening so I can't really complain too much. It's annoying, but we will get through this. We've been through worse, so we will get through this too.

First, I want to wish everyone a Happy Fourth of July!! I hope you have a happy and safe day!
I've just basically decided that none of what we are going through is really worth fretting over. It's not life threatening. Sure, it's annoying and a pain in the neck, but we are going to Disney. I love Disney and would rather be there than anywhere in the world.
So, we are staying at Port Orleans French Quarter. Do you ever feel like no matter where you stay you want to stay at a nicer resort? i feel that way sometimes. I see others posting pictures of the deluxe resorts and sometimes feel like I would love to stay there. We have never stayed at a Deluxe resort before. DH doesn't feel the need to stay someplace where we are simply going to sleep and would rather have the extra money to spend on souvenirs and other things like that. I agree, but think that it would be nice sometimes.
Don't get me wrong, we love POFQ. We have stayed there many times before, but I just think that sometimes it would be nice.
Okay, so enough complaining. LOL! We are going to Disney and that's all that matters. I just needed to get that out there. LOL!! I think sometimes we all have a desire to stay someplace different.
Now, I'm just waiting for the October dessert party to open up. I'm thinking about doing it by myself. Why? Well, DS and DH aren't all that excited about it. I mentioned it to DH and he wrinkled his nose and shook his head. So, I could tell that he wasn't all that interested in it.
And DS? Let's just say that my son is strange. He doesn't like chocolate. I'm still not sure that he's my child. I love chocolate. Which is probably why I'm overweight. LOL!! He loves vanilla ice cream and anything vanilla flavored. I'm still trying to convince the two of them that the party is a good thing. A great view of the fireworks and some awesome desserts. What more could you want?
My guys are frustrating at times. LOL!!
Thanks again for reading. I'm sorry for rambling and appreciate you sticking with me. I promise that my trip report will be much better.

We've stayed in deluxes many times, and I must say that we love POFQ! I would do the dessert party with the whole family! My DS is not a big sweets person either (he lives on fruit) but they had lots of fruit there and plenty of other things to keep him happy! Plus you can't beat the view!
I was glad to see your review of Dollywood. My husband keeps insisting that we go there this summer. I know my daughters will not be thrilled as they don't like the local amusement parks after going to Disney. We might go just to humor him, but I am trying to discourage it. I hope things get better for you as you get closer to your trip!
