As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.

I can understand why you'd feel uncomfortable with the multiple servers at Ariel's. It's good, though, that the chef took special care with your meal. Too bad they waited so long to refurbish the restaurant! It should never get to the point where customers notice wear and tear like that. I've never read a review of Rancho Del Zocalo before-- it sounds like a great spot!

I too would have been concerned with all those different people bringing things to the table, but I'm glad the chef put your worries to rest and that you scored an awesome dessert!

I booked our last meal at one of our favorite places. We just the Grand Californian, and we’ve always had great service and even better food every time we’ve dined there. We’ve done the Character Breakfast more times than I can count and dinner a couple of times. Generally, I book the latest time for the Character Breakfast and we count it as lunch. That was my plan for this trip, but the Minnie Fly Girls show only played one day of our trip. So, we planned to see it the first time it played and then head over to Storyteller’s for lunch. After lunch we had to head back to the hotel, pick up the car and head out. L You know the feeling.
On to lunch! We arrived right about noon, and the restaurant was nearly empty. There were a couple of tables finishing their brunch and maybe one or two other tables seated for lunch. I let the server know of my dietary needs, he took our drink order, and said the chef would be out shortly. When the chef arrived, he asked me what I wanted for lunch. He said he could make me anything that I wanted, and then started going through the menu, item by item. Wow! My mind boggled at the choices! I stopped him, because what I really wanted was the turkey club sandwich. He said that was an easy one. J My dining partner chose the Cobb Salad.
Our food was out pretty quickly. My sandwich had lots of fresh avocado and the applewood smoked bacon that Storyteller’s serves at breakfast. Best of all it was served on gluten free flat bread that was fresh and delicious. It was paired with fries that had been cooked in the fries only fryer to avoid cross contamination. According to my BFF the Cobb Salad was fresh and crisp, and a very generous portion. We really enjoyed this meal will definitely be heading back. The service was perfect, the sandwich divine, and it was a nice way to bid goodbye to the Disneyland Resort for this trip (if there is a nice way!). It was a great spot for a nice lunch. It was fast, but relaxed. I’ll be keeping it in mind for a nice break from the crowds for our summer trip.
Trader Sam’s at the Disneyland Hotel
One night we decided to head over to Trader Sam’s after our park time that evening. We found the bar easily enough, and decided to head inside and enjoy the atmosphere and an adult beverage. We sat at the bar and took our time looking over the drink menu, which is extensive. The bartender gave us some suggestions, and I asked her about the food (I wasn’t hungry, just curious). Only the fish tacos were gluten free. I wasn’t too surprised, as most of the food had some sort of soy sauce, and soy sauce generally has wheat as an ingredient. We settled on the Krakatoa Punch and the Ice-Ka-Bluie. We ordered our drinks without the souvenir glasses. When the Krakatoa Punch came out, there were some special effects. So fun! The drinks were tasty and quite strong! There was a ton of stuff to look at all around. There were a few groups of people, but it wasn’t crowded. It’s definitely a must do for Disney Fans who love a detailed environment. We enjoyed the place so much that we returned the next night to try both the red and white sangrias and the outside patio. I just loved the white sangria! We arrived around nine o’clock and the ukulele player was just leaving. L Next time we’ll head over a little earlier! We’ll certainly make this a must do for future adults only excursions!
Yummy! I haven't been to Storyteller's Cafe in quite a few years now. Now I'm thinking I need to make a return visit soon! I'm so glad you were offered so many gf options! It's nice to know you have more than just one or two things you can eat!
I'd love to try Trader Sam's. It sounds like a great place to relax after a day at the park!
