As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

We have always flown SW and never had any issues. The flight times I need in August are not ideal- 6:10 am to Orlando and 7:45 am departing. Air Tran is the same cost even after baggage and seat assignment but the flights times are a little later in the day.
I'm afraid of Air Tran. Everything I've read is that they are consistently late or changing schedules (never happened to us on SW after 7+ years). And I guess I'm used to the SW process (smalls kids so we board after the A's) and unsure about the Air Tran process.
What would you choose? I appreciate any feedback, I'm driving myself crazy deciding.
if the times are better, I'd fly with AirTran.
DH has never had any trouble with them. And I believe they do assigned seating, so boarding isn't even an issue. Your seat is waiting for you whenever you get on.
I actually avoid SW because I don't like their boarding system. I'd rather have an assigned spot.

I'm a SWA flyer. I've never had any problems with them, so they have my loyalty. But didn't SWA aquire Air Tran just recently? Maybe Air Tran will be better now if that's the case.
We've never had any problems with Trans Air. If the cost is the same, the times are better, I'd go with TA. The added bonus is assigned seating!! No need to worry about all that stuff you have to worry with SWA.
I'm one of those people who had AirTran change their flight times - one even changed from a non-stop to a flight with a layover. I ended up canceling the return trip all together and booking with someone else. Their customer service was great about changing flights and canceling the one, but it was a major pain. They say they'll notify you by e-mail if your flight changes but ours changed 3 times and I never got any e-mail. I just had to watch the flights constantly and call if there was a change. Personally I won't use AirTran again simply because it was such a hassle.
I also have not flown Air Tran, and would likely be pondering this as well. SWA did acquire AirTran, but I don't know how that is affecting anything at this point.
I think I'd probably go with SWA, just because I'm comfortable with their process having used them for almost all my trips that we've flown to WDW, especially if the price is the same. I don't mind the early flights so much...make the day following longer.

always fly with Airtran and yes they have changed our flight times before but I did get emails and they bent over backwards to accomadate us! Even to the point of paying for all our luggage and seats on our last trip and the time was only moved by 30 minutes. 30 minutes that would have messed up dining ressies. We ended up changing and adding a day to our vacation with better times and they did all the work, and voided all charges!!!!!!! I just had to add day onto hotel! Now I have flown with US Airways and will NEVER EVER use them again. I had a HORRIBLE experience with them and they have some of the rudest CSR's ever. So I guess it is a matter of what you feel comfortable doing. Airtran also allows parents and children to board first if the child or children is under a certian age I believe. Well every parent that has been in airport with a child has always boarded first when I have been there.

Yes, Air Tran was aquired by SW, I read something online about that recently
Personally, I like SW. I've never flown Air Tran, but I love SW's customer service. They are always super nice and often let me board with the family boarding even though my DD is 12. In fact the last time the guy was teasing me about it because we were standing in the regular boarding line.

We flew with Air Tran in Sept. 2011 and had no problems at all. On time, no flight changes, we were even a little early to land. This is my one & only experience with them, but it was good. Good luck whatever you decide.
Southwest is gradually transitioning much or all of AirTran to the Southwest brand and operating procedures. My understanding is that they may maintain the AirTran brand on international routes.

Have flown both AirTran and Southwest. No problems with either. Yes, airtran did change our time--but only by about 40 minutes. we were notified byE mail. My flight with Southwest also was changed by about 20 minutes with no notice. Customer Service was fine with both of them. Right now, they are our preferred airlines because theyhave the only nonstop flights from PIT to MCO.

Air Tran makes you pay $6 per person to get assigned seating. They also charge for baggage, which SW does not. Add that to your total flight cost and see which is better for you.
If the times are that important to you, then go with AirTran. You mentioned that the cost is the same, even after adding on the baggage and seat fees? Win-win.
Yes, sometimes AirTran has changed their schedules in the past. But I've noticed that since SW has purchased them, my schudules have not changed once. If you're still concerned about changes and not being notified, then make it a priority to check your reservation every day to make sure. I'm sure every few days would suffice though.
Personally, I prefer SW too, simply for the free luggage. But their schedules stink sometimes! So then we go with AirTran. We've never had any issues with them!
