Photopass CD questions [photos ownership + CD receipt] - PassPorter - A Community of Walt Disney World, Disneyland, Disney Cruise Line, and General Travel Forums
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

Photopass CD questions [photos ownership + CD receipt]
Maybe a stupid one.
In the past, I haven't always ordered all the pictures I would have liked to have because IMO the prices are a little high. If we were to purchase the photopass CD we would then own all the photos and be able to print them through an outside party like Target, Walmart or Ritz, right? And I'd be able to print them at my leisure as opposed to having that 30 day limit since I would have my own CD?
Again, maybe a stupid question but if you preorder how do you get your CD after your vacation? Obviously, we've never gotten the CD before!

When you preorder you get a code. Save the code until after you "claim" all the photopass cards (you can add several cards to the one CD. Eg If my DH goes off he gets another photopass card and we join both on the one account) and then add borders, crop photos etc then go through with the purchase using the promo code you prepaid for and the CD will be sent to your address. Easy and great value too!
yes, you can print them elsewhere. if you add any of the Disney designs, you will need to give the photography place a copy of the copyright info that disney sends you.. i know our Walmart and Sam's both keep the copy of the agreement on file for a year. when i used one of the on-line companies, i had to fax them a copy of the agreement.
Some things have changed a little bit with Photopass in the recent past. You are now issued a credit to your Photopass account when you pre purchase the CD and are no longer e-mailed a code that you need to save - it's a pretty recent change. For answers to any and all questions you might have about Photopass try this link: Disney's PhotoPass - April 2011 It is accurate and is updated every month.

Your photopass account will show a credit for the CD when you pre-purchase it.
I have purchased the CD the 4 trips and love it. I make a point of visiting all the photographers I can. Sometime more than once. Then when I get home I add the graphics and borders to the pictures. I crop pictures and change some to Black/White. I have started having my kids (both 18 now) jump in and edit some photos. I literally triple the number of photos. I always have 150+ pictures on the CD. So, pre-purchase cost of $100 (approx) makes each picture less than a $1 a piece. There is not a limit to the number of photos for the CD.
The CD itself will contain a .JPG file of the release that allows you to print off any pictures you have on the CD, including those with special borders. Just show that JPG to the person at the photo place and you should have no problems!

I'll give that a try again, however at both Sam's and Walmart, they required that I print it off and physically bring them a copy for their files. They wouldn't do it there. I haven't try Walgreens. Shutterfly asked me to fax the copy even though they had the jpg file. This was Nov of last year, so maybe things have changed.
Thanks for all the answers! I still haven't decided if I'm going to do it this year or not. Our ds (5) isn't as into seeing the characters as dd was and now that she's 11 she's not all that into the characters either. There are some we will visit *just because* but I really am wondering if I would end up with enough pictures to make the CD worth it.
I've also started a weight loss plan and while I'm down about 15 pounds I still have another 50 or so to go before I'm going to be comfortable with myself, so I'm wondering if it wouldn't be better to just hold off and do the CD next year when I'll be more comfortable with myself and more willing to get into the pictures. I also have a nice camera with an external flash that despite it's size I do lug through Disney every day, so I do capture some of my own very nice photos, sometimes better than what we get from the CM. The only thing I don't have is the borders and the *magical moments* that they can add in, like Tinkerbell in your hand.
We leave 4 weeks from today so I still have a little time to think about it. Guess I'll also see where our budget stands as we get closer. As it stands now, there would be more than enough to get the CD, however, I've been ordering pins for DD and DS and if I don't stop that I might not be able to do the CD!

I guess I should have said "show them a printed copy of the JPG file" -- I wouldn't expect them to be able to view it or be willing to print it there.

we don't do character things and still wind up with 200-300 photos, sometimes for just the two of us! by the time i enhance etc. we hit 500+. i love that we can be together in our photos, i love the photos they take of us interacting with each other. i'm waaaaay pooh sized and while i would love to be 100 pounds less, i wouldn't trade one of those pooh-sized photos of me having fun with my family. time is precious, life is short and i want all those moments i can get photos of for my collection
If you preorder the cd and then decide you don't like the pics you can get a refund. We always prorder and the last 2 trips have ended up with over 2000 photos after adding borders.

There's a copyright release on the CD. I've printed photopass pics at Target, through Kodak online for Target store pickup and through Snapfish and no one has ever asked for proof of permission.
i wish i had been that lucky. even though they could see the file with the release, Sam's Walmart and the local photo store, all required that i print off and bring in the release from our photo session, the regular photopass disk and the photopass gallery shots cd we purchased. they did file it in a drawer and said we could get photos off the disks for a year before we would have to print it again.
