Pirate Fireworks cruise, Disney Magic Tour, Dessert Party in 2011? - PassPorter - A Community of Walt Disney World, Disneyland, Disney Cruise Line, and General Travel Forums
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.

Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.

It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.

Pirate Fireworks cruise, Disney Magic Tour, Dessert Party in 2011?
I'm still looking for "special things" for our girls as part of their Christmas gift vacation to Disney. They will be 11, almost 9 and turning 6 on our vacation. We will already be doing BBB and probably CRT for lunch.
Is the Dessert Party still available, or has this been discontinued?
Can you share your experiences on the Pirate and Pals Fireworks Cruise? Is it worth that amount of money???
How about the Family Magic Tour? I was a bit disappointed by the Holiday Magic Tour so am leary of the tours anymore, but this looks like something the girls can be active participants in. Thoughts?
We are going for DS's 10th birthday from December 19-26. We are also looking at the Pirate & Pals cruise and the Family Magic Tour, so I'm glad you asked this. I'm eager to see the responses. Everything I've read about both in the past has been positive.
I'm eager to hear about the Pirates and Pals fireworks cruise as well. And I don't think the Wishes Dessert party has been extended past the summer months. Someone please correct me if I'm wrong but I'm sure Disney will extend it. It's a great money maker for them.
I haven't heard yet whether the Dessert Party will be extended but as far as I know it's been very popular and has continued to be offered. We did it last April and I thought it was wonderful - yummy desserts, nice view of the Castle, Wishes and Tink (fireworks view may not be the best but for us it was as we never get a good spot on Main St LOL). It was really special having a reserved table (and it was my bdy so they sprinkled it with Mickey confetti) waiting for us. However, since it was Easter week, Wishes was at 10pm. My girls were 11 and 9 at the time and they were getting tired and cranky waiting for the fireworks to begin. We had registered at the Dessert party ahead and gotten our wristbands and then went to Main St and found a great spot for the parade but the girls were too tired to enjoy it. So that set the tone The dessert offerings were great but not that many "kid" choices - they had cookies and brownies but that was all they were willing to try. They also had milk which was nice since my girls are big milk drinkers. Also, go hungry - we ate dinner later than we should have and I felt like we paid a lot of money to watch Wishes and eat just the handful of things that we could comfortably enjoy Would I do it again? Yeah, I think so. But I would make sure we ate a late lunch or super early dinner and that the girls had a nap or slept later in the morning so I could enjoy it better
We have enjoyed the Family Magic Tour twice - when the girls were 4 and 6 and later on when they were 10 and 8 along with my 5yo nephew. We enjoyed it both times. It's fun for both young and old but I think it's better enjoyed with kids in your party. I think your children will have a lot of fun participating and so will you! I think my kids (who are now almost 13 and 10-1/2) would gladly do it again but the clues are the same each time, so I think they wouldn't be as excited as they were the first two times around I give this Tour a big thumb's up!
We have not done the Pirates and Pals Fireworks Cruise but I have looked at doing that. We did a Wishes Bdy cruise one year and that was wonderful. Got a fantastic tour of Bay Lake and the Seven Seas Lagoon, super friendly skipper told us lots of interesting stories, snacks and drinks and a great view of Wishes! We did this with my sister's family as a special celebration and it was really worth the splurge. Even as my girls are older now, I would think about booking the Pirates Cruise - sounds fun!
If you're looking for something different or out of the ordinary, have you done any of the Kim Possible Adventures in World Showcase? We had fun doing that last year. Also my girls really enjoy checking out all the fun activities at Innoventions - there are lots of great games to play there. And both of these don't require extra money For a small fee, you could rent a surrey bike on the Boardwalk or at The Wilderness Lodge (Saratoga Springs too and possibly Port Orleans too?). This is a lot of fun but be prepared to do most of the pedaling. I can't wait til Sara's legs are a little longer and Clara's are a little stronger! LOL Another fun thing to try if you haven't already is mini-golf at either Winter-Summerland or Fantasia Gardens. We've had lots of fun there! And not too far away from Fantasia Gardens and/or the Boardwalk is Beaches and Cream (at the Yacht and Beach Clubs) - fun place for yummy ice cream desserts - you can even challenge your family to finish off a Kitchen Sink!
The Family Magic Tour is a lot of fun for families and quite inexpensive for a tour. It is more of a scavenger hunt around Magic Kingdom for the family. At the end of the tour, you get a private meet and greet with Peter Pan and Wendy. It is a lot of fun for families!
