As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!
Best wishes for a wonderful and magical new year!

I want this to stop!
Some of you know about some of the problems my sweet pup has started having in the recent past. Today we found out that on top of the heart disease & the seizures she now has an 'unrelated' liver disease. She is ONLY 9 years old & is a small dog (Maltese) so we expected her to live at least 14 or 15 years--that will never happen now.
Anyhow, my point is that she came from a Puppy Mill. Do NOT EVER buy a dog from a pet store or from an add that states the dog was born in Iowa (one of the seven worst puppy-mill states in the country). The only way to stop these "people" (& I use that term in the loosest sense possible) is to stop the money that flows to them.
I am SO angry right now that I would probably beat the living *%&$ out of the people that caused our baby these health problems if they were standing in front of me.
I am sorry this is long but I know that there are a lot of you out there that are pet lovers & who will try to make a difference if you can. Please tell everyone you know about this--it has to stop!
Check out this link Get the Facts on Puppy Mills or www.hsus.org
Thank you for listening.

Re: I want this to stop!
My last dog was purchased in Germany and had a string of problems related to overbreeding. We of course didn't discover it until it was too late. He only lived to be a year and half old, and the last few months were the most difficult of all. Puppy mills have indeed become a problem, and a problem that needs to be remedied. Thanks for posting the site.

Re: I want this to stop!
VictoryDiv, I am so sorry to hear about your dog. Our vet says that the puppy mill problem is much worse in the states than in Europe. I am sorry that you & your puppy had to go through that.
Thank you Pam, I know you understand what I am going through too.

I am so sorry for what you're going through - it's so difficult to lose a pet at the end of its natural life, but to lose this family member before its time is doubly sad.

Re: I want this to stop!
I'm so sorry to hear about your doggie, Allison. We just lost my little hamster, Cinderellie, last week and are still crushed. Here's thoughts and hugs for you and your pet.
We got my dog, Annie, from the animal shelter and although she only sort of resembles a black lab (we dunno what breed her parents are), she's been a perfect pet all around for five years now. Adopting a pet from the shelter is something I'm really proud of, and I hope it makes you feel a little better knowing that. Best of luck and keep us updated as you see fit.

Re: I want this to stop!
Thank you Dad2jbj & greystone98 for your thoughts, I appreciate everyone's concern. buzzNwoodyfan, it is Wonderful that you were able to find a sweet pup through a shelter--we will definitely be looking into that once we move home.
My point in posting this was really to raise awareness of the problems of Puppy Mills. I realize my link didn't work but if you go to www.hsus.org there is a link on the left side that will tell you about the problems that are out there (there are no horrible pictures or anything like that).
I have never been a person to "get involved" this way but I am now. This has been a problem for years but it doesn't have to remain a problem, it can be stopped, any little bit helps.

Re: I want this to stop!
I'm sorry to hear about your little one is having - here's some pixie dust ~*~*~*~*~ she will feel better.
We got our dog and cat at shelters and that is the only place I would ever get an animal (and of course they are both 'fixed'). My sister is a vet tech at Angell Memorial in Boston, and my great-grandfather worked there eons ago, so that is sort of inbred or something I think. (There are so many animals without homes at shelters, IMHO it is always worth at least a look - they may not be purebred, but if you're not going to breed and/or show, why pay that kind of money?!) (The soapbox has been taken away - sorry!)

Re: I want this to stop!
Allison,
I am so sorry to hear about what you are going through.
Puppy mills have been around for a long time, and will continue to exist as long as the market is there, sadly. I used to work for a small pet store that sold puppies bought only from local breeders...no puppy mills. We were very proud of that fact, BUT due to the local factor, we had to charge a little more than other stores in the area that sold puppy mill dogs. Guess who went out of business??? People would come into our store and say, "But I can get the same puppy at such-and-such place for less money" and off they would go. Money talks! In fact, there was a place up here in the Poconos touting himself as a "UKC" (Universal Kennel Club) registered kennel (this is a non existent kennel club..the owner of this particular puppy mill was the CEO, president and signed all the "UKC" papers) and selling MIXED BREEDS as UKC registered dogs. And people would go there and pay top dollar for a dog they could have adopted from the SPCA for $40.00. Thankfully, he was finally shut down due to the neighbors complaining about the deplorable conditions he kept his kennel in.
Sorry to ramble on, but I agree with you totally on this issue. It is a terrible, inhumane thing. I actually no longer support the HSUS because my donation money was going to way too many address labels and note cards, but that's another thread. One other way people can help is to get involved with their local rescue groups. Most breeds have a rescue group that takes the animals when the people no longer want them. Alot of those dogs are puppy mill puppies who were bought when they were cute and cuddly, but given up when they get big and demanding. These groups need not only money, but food, toys, bones, even office supplies and are always grateful to get things. We are currently on the waiting list for a Rescue Golden Retriever with Delaware Valley Golden Retriever Rescue.
I hope your little girl is doing OK. Feel free to email or PM me if you want!
Sue

This is certainly a serious problem. I hope the "powers that be" take notice and do something about it!
