As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!
Best wishes for a wonderful and magical new year!

I want to cry!
Went to the dentist yesterday with a toothache. I expected things to be bad, but this just....UGH I have to get 3 of my wisdom teeth pulled on Wed and then I have to go back to the dentist for three separate visits to get cavities filled. The worst part is it's my own fault. I haven't been to the dentist in 5 or 6 years because I'm a scaredy cat. I can deal with any other Dr (even the yucky ladies kind ) better than the dentist. Tramatic chilhood experiences and all that! I do brush my teeth everyday (I really do!), but my teeth are too much for my mouth and it's just impossible to get to some places (that's what the dentist told me atleast). So until Wed I'm living on Advil and fear. I know this is really a minor issue and there are a lot worse problems in the world today, but I'm scared! Thanks for letting me vent. My boyfriend just laughs at me. He's already had his wisdom teeth pulled and tells me it's no big deal. UGH!

Re: I want to cry!
If you're going to an oral surgeon having the wisdom teeth out is no big deal. Both DSs had theirs out that way and they were fine the next day. Me, I had mine out by my dentist over 30 years ago, he pulled one tooth every 2 weeks or so and that was very painful.
Good luck. Sending you some healing pixie dust.

Re: I want to cry!
Hey, I feel your pain. I cry when I get my teeth cleaned! I was actually dismissed from a dentist when I was a child 'cause I started screaming in his office and disturbed the patients in the waiting room! Since you are having so much work done, make sure you are comfortable with your dentist. I finally found one that I feel okay with. And make sure to be asked to be put out when you get the wisdom teeth pulled. It took me a few days to get back to normal, but I am so glad that they are gone!
Here's some pixie dust and prayers headed your way!

Re: I want to cry!
I agree with tiki, make sure it is a dentist you are comfortable with. I was traumatized by a very cruel dentist when I was 18 and having my wisdom teeth pulled. It took 20 years to get me back in a dentist's chair. The result, spending once a week at the dentist from April until July of last year ! But I found someone I really like and I don't have to worry about having any major work done for a long, long time.

Re: I want to cry!
I totally understand how you feel! I had my wisdom teeth pulled last week, and I was nearly hysterical. I had nightmares the week before and the day of, she almost didn't want to pull them because I was breaking out in hives and having trouble breathing. I really, REALLY can't stand the thought of pain.
BUT -- it was fine! She had to give me extra shots of anesthesia because in my nervousness, I was sucking up the drugs. The shot was with a tiny needle, and she numbed the area with a lotion first, so I barely felt the shots. She stopped often to calm me down and reassure me. All in all, in about 15 minutes the teeth were out!
Now, my advice -- if they'll let you be put under, do it. Much as I liked being able to drive home and not be groggy the next day, hearing the teeth rip out and feeling the pressure (not pain, but pressure) still makes me sick to my stomach when I think about it. So if you can be out cold, you won't have to deal with that memory!
And make sure you trust the dentist. If I had to do this with my old dentist back in NJ, I would have never made it through. My dentist here was SO much better!
Mine were taken out Tuesday, and now it's Saturday and I'm eating regular food and they're almost completely healed already! I didn't even take the painkillers -- just Advil.

Re: I want to cry!
Oh Kimberly, I SO sympathize with you! I am petrified of the dentist (I think it comes from 4 years of monthly visits to the orthodontist when I was a kid) and really need to go. I've got a wisdom tooth he wanted me to have pulled before Shane was born and it's still in my head! I haven't been back to the dentist since he gave me the referral for the extraction.
Anyhoo, sending you lots of brave pixie dust & positive vibes and some {{{hugs}}} too

Re: I want to cry!
Relax!! I absolutely cannot stand going to the dentist. I have had one horrible dr. after another. For example...my childhood dentist convinced my Mother I wouldn't have room for my permenant teeth unless he pulled the baby ones. I had almost all my baby teeth pulled the second they started to wiggle. Then the next dentist I had when I got married called me a "slut" for being on birth control. And that he knew "all about girls like me." The next dentist I went to messed up my xrays three times and broke one of my wisdom teeth. Of course that meant I had to get them pulled. It was finals week and I told her I would have to wait and she started screaming at me!!! The first dr. which she recommended for getting my wisdom teeth pulled was an idiot. I told him how nervous I was and he told me to quit being such a baby. So I said bye-bye to him! The next dr. I found on my own and he was fabulous. I told him how much I disliked him...only because he was a dentist and to please not think I was a bad person because of it. And he was great! He took things slow and constantly checked on me to make sure I was okay. The big shocker was that it actually felt good to have them out! Yes, it really did feel better! Instead of pain, it was relief. The only thing I didn't like was having to squirt out the empty sockets. Gross, but better than getting food in them.
It won't be as bad as you think! I just kept saying over and over, "it won't kill me, just make me stronger."
Good luck!
Jessi

Re: I want to cry!
Thanks for all the kind words everyone. I really appriciate (sp?) it. I really like the dentist, so far. He seems very gentle and continually asks if I'm okay. He will only be filling the cavaties though. I don't know the dentist that will be pulling the teeth, put he pulled my friends wisdom teeth and she said he was really good. I hope they knock me out. At this point I don't care if it's gas or they just hit me in the head with a blunt object I will not be able to stand being awake. The idea of feeling things.....okay, gonna stop now. Thanks again everyone for sharing the stories and feelings. It really does help!

Re: I want to cry!
My heart goes out to you! I know how you feel! My dentist has been telling me for years that my wisdom teeth have to come out but I'm too scared to do it. I had one pulled already because it had a cavity. I was so nervous. As I sat in the chair wide awake, I kept hoping that it was done and I didn't know it yet, but no such luck. I didn't feel anything, but I'm so wishy-washy about these things that just knowing what's going on is hard for me. Then the dentist didn't prescribe any pain killers so hours later while I was laughing at the people on Ricky Lake, the anesthesia wore off and then it started to hurt, and I started crying... DH called the dentist and told him, and the dentist reluctantly wrote a script and DH went to pick it up. And when DH picked it up, the dentist said to him, "Hold her hand, it's mostly emotional." as if I was emotionally attached to that tooth. That was so rude! And DH said to him, "I don't think so, she was fine until the anesthesia wore off." Now for the last three the dentist wants to send me to an oral surgeon and have me put out. Fine with me!
Wow, long-winded as usual! Just trying to let you know that I can empathize with your fear, but all in all it's not so bad and they do heal quickly! Just make sure they give you something for the pain if you have a low tolerance like me! Hang in there!

Re: I want to cry!
Okay....now I am going to have nightmares..I have never heard such horrifying dentist stories in my life! Spankings, and pill taking sluts! OH MY GOD!!!
Being a hater of dentists, reason being my love of air and my mouth is a backup airway for my nose...there for it shouldnt be messed with..what if my nose quit working?? and some moron has his hands in my mouth! Of course there is the pain issue too..When I leave the dentists office (which I assure you is rarley) my hands are literally cramped in the shape of the armrests of the chair, not to mention every muscle in my body hurts from flexing them for the entire visit.
I have to say, you must have them knock you out! Having my wisdom teeth pulled was the most pleasant dentist experience I ever had for that very reason alone....I was unconcious.

Re: I want to cry!
Wow! I'm sorry for all you guys who have issues with the dentist. My mom is the same way. When I had to have my wisdom teeth removed, the dentist sent me to an oral surgeon(aptly named..Dr. Molar, not joking lol) and he put me out. The dentist sent me there because I have a small mouth(my dh disagrees) and strong gag reflex. Well, he put me under(woohoo that was great feeling) and within 20 minutes I was done and on my way home. He did give me a perscrip. for darveset(sp?) and I only took 2 and then tylenol the rest of the time. My mom thought she'd be cute and buy me a frozen snickers bar to get back at me(I did it to her, but not on purpose) and I got the last laugh! Within four hours, I was able to eat a bowl of chili, have a cigarette and eat that frozen snickers! I went back to work the next day feeling just fine.
I was one of the lucky ones. Good luck to you all, it's not because you are emotionally attached to your teeth, it's because the dr. was too lazy and mean to write that prescription!
Since that surgery, I've had to have my mouth operated on because of biting the inside of my gum and it caused it to grow and grow and it was painful, but i'm glad I did! I love that feeling of getting knocked out, especially since it's not a major surgery or life threatening! Take care all!! I'll be thinking of you!

Re: I want to cry!
Well, I leave for the oral surgeon in 45 min. I'm not happy! I'm nervous and REALLY want some coffee!
Thank you everyone for letting me know I'm so not alone in this fear. Atleast I don't have to worry about being spanked by the hygenist (atleast I hope not ) I don't plan on leaving the scary mans office without that piece of paper that says "Lots of Percacets for this nice lady" and my mom is watching my daughter this afternoon. Okay, I think I'm ready! Here I go......
