As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

OMGosh, there are so many fun things to do. first, just walking around each hotel is amazing. They are like a little amusement park in their own right.
For Free, there is the Volcano at the mirage, the pirate show in front of Treasure Island. Inside the dessert passage mall ( attached to Planet Hollywood) every hour there is a rain storm that " brews" in the shopping plaza. The Venetion has living Statues that are fun to watch ( more like watching pple try to figure out if they are real or not). You can window shop at the Bellagio in the high end stores like gucci, chanel, DG etc. check out the ceiling in the lobby at Bellagio, it beautiful. Oh and don't miss the dancing water fountion in the 8 acre lake out in front. I recommend seeing it at night.....it's awsome.
If you happen to be in the Imperial palace their dealers in the casino are called "dealatainers" and fun to watch if you happen to be there at the right time.
Go for a stroll through the pool area at the Flamingo, its really pretty.
There are also so many shows to see some don't cost huge amounts of money. Legend in concert at Imperial Place is a fun way to pass an evening.
Not to mention one of the Cirque du solie shows. I think there are FIVE of them right now. Le Reve is great to. if you are into bars and clubbing there is no shortage on that front either.
I could go on and on. these are just a few of the things that I can remember from both of our trips, mind you it's been a few yrs since i was there and I'm sure things have changed some, but in Vegas, you can't be board. Even finding a bench and watching the pple go by is fun there.
Besides gambling? The hotels are FUN to see. You could spend a weekend walking (miles and miles, I'm not kidding) through them. There are endless live shows, from Blue Man Group, Cirque, Penn and Teller, Elton John, etc. but they are very expensive. Vegas is getting back to it's raunchier roots from trying to be a "family" destination, so there are many scantily clad women "dancing" in the casinos at night. Kids are not as catered to as the used to be. My 15 yr old nephew was there for a magic convention and was bored after 2 days as he couldn't do anything.
For things to do besides the strip, the Hoover Dam is less than a 1/2 hour away. There are several State parks nearby. Red Rock Canyon is one we always love to go to (as long as it's not flaming hot out.) I want to take a full day horseback ride/bbq next time.
Someone gave me this site lasventions.com which lists all the strip hotel specials. You may be able to get a better deal this way.

Let me know if you have questions about anything....as a local, I'd be happy to help (though sometimes, others on these boards know more about the "Vegas" touristy stuff - I'm good with the locations and non-Strip stuff).
Vegas is a great place to stay and we (and Nevada as a whole) took a severe hit with the recession (real estate plummeted and tourism dropped off). We could use more visitors - my children's schooling could use the money you gamble!
One of the most fun things for us was visiting all the various hotels. The theming in each is just amazing - it was wonderful just to browse them all.
We love Cirque du Soleil, so every time we go, we catch as many of their shows as we can.
Outside of Vegas, Red Rock Canyon is very easy to get to and absolutely stunning and we also enjoyed Valley of Fire on our most recent trip. The Hoover Dam is another place well worth a visit.

The Lion King! That was wonderful I also recomment Beatles Love, that was wonderful if you remember and appreciate the Beatles, even if you don't.
I love to explore the resorts, New York, New York is fun to check out. The Bellagio fountains.
There are so many varied experiences that don't involve gambling, but gambling can be fun too. There are wonderful dining experiences, just like Disney.
We have been to LV many times. Of course we spend a lot of time playing cards and gambling. We also like to visit the other hotels/resorts. They all have different theming and designs and are really interesting.
There are a lot of great resturants in LV too. One of our favorites was the one at the top of the Stratusphere. Great views (of course) and great food. It was very expensive though.
At night there is the Bellagio fountains that are nice and the Volcano at the Mirage.
The one thing I don't recommend LV is as a place to bring children. Nudity and adult themed entertainment is common. There are people on the street handing out cards for "dates". Billbords with the same advertisements. Most resorts have pools that have topless areas. No complaints from me I just don't want to bring my kids there. Suprisingly there are quite a few kids around.
One thing we have never done is any of the shows. To me they are overpriced or just not interesting for us.
We find that LV is a great place for a 3-4 day adult vacation.
Anyone have a Las Vegas trip planning site they can recommend?
Hello!
Before my 2011 trip to Disney, my DH and I are heading out to Las Vegas for 5 days so he can attend a convention. My plans are to be VERY easy (a REAL vacation) and spend time hanging out at the pool, spa and having afternoon tea! (We're staying at the Bellagio). But, we will have our evenings free, so I am looking for a site that can tell me my options for restaurants, shows, etc. Is there such a site? The only ones I have found so far are official LV tourism sites, or travel agent sites. Obviously I won't find anything for LV like Passporter is for WDW, but was hoping I could find SOMETHING!!! Any suggestions?

Trip Advisor also has a very active Las Vegas message board section.
In February we went to Vegas with our teens for 10 nights and had a blast. All of the above suggestions are great. We also went on an overnight to the Grand Canyon and a day trip to Death Valley National Park. Mt. Charleston is also beautiful to visit. Since we love racing, we went to the Las Vegas Motor Speedway and took a cheap speedway tour around the race track. Red Rock Canyon and Valley of Fire State Park are awesome. We love going to the top of the Stratosphere and the Eiffel Tower in Paris. Bellagio fountains every night ..... our room looked over them. The mall at Planet Hollywood and the Caeser's Palace Forum shops. We did a gondola ride at the Venetian for our 25th wedding anniversary. It's the closest I will ever to get the real Venice. All of the free entertainment at the Venetian is awesome.
The only time we went gambling was when the teens were asleep and we snuck over to Bill's Gambling Hall & Saloon. Very much an old style saloon and so much fun. Everybody was having a great time. Enjoy your trip!

My sister and I did that, too! It wasn't exactly the Richard Petty Experience, but it was a lot cheaper. What was it, $11, or was it $7? I forget. Loved riding on the track and stopping on the banked turn. That thing is steep!
