Forums Closed
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.

So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.

Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.

And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.

We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.

There are other changes as well.

Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:

We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.

It's time to move on and move forward.

PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.

But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.

So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.

And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.

That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.

Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!

If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.

So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

Best wishes for a wonderful and magical new year!

DL and WDW

*I wasn't really sure where to put this one

I was chatting with my DW this morning about this idea that popped into my head recently. Going to both DL and WDW in one vacation. I admit it's a bit of a dream~ and don't know if we could actually pull it off or not. But I am intrigured to say the least. So my questions are:

Have you ever gone to both in one trip? Have you thought about it? Do you think it is something that can be pulled off?

If you have the time and the money, I can't see why not. I personally have never thought of it only because I don't do well flying and spending that many hours in a plane would most likely do me in. As it is, I don't even like the 2 or so hours it takes to get from here to Florida (part of the reason why we drive and take the Auto Train).

I think it's an interesting idea. I'm not sure I'd ever want to pull it off, but it could be done as long as the cost of flying wasn't prohibitive!

Jennifer and I were married at WDW, had to fly to DL for the 50th anniversary media event, then returned to WDW for our honeymoon. So yes, it can be done. Your plan is almost quaint by comparison.

If it's something that appeals to you, why not? It gives you a chance to bring fresh impressions of one resort to your experiences at the other. Folks who live in the Anaheim or Orlando area have an easier time doing this. You'll find folks from both areas making cross-country pilgrimages plus visiting their "home" parks soon before or after their cross-country trip.

On the other hand, you could look at it like a four-parks-in-one-day marathon - sure, it can be done, but there's something to be said for a more relaxed pace.

We did it a couple of years ago, along with Chicago, New York and Vegas in one vacation and it was a lot of fun. We didn't find it too exhausting - I think we had something like six days at WDW, then a couple of days (maybe three?) at Disneyland later on in the trip. Then again, we were lucky enough to be able to have a 17 day trip in total.....

I think it is definitely something we are going to think about more. I really want to go to DL at least once. But at the same time WDW has so much more to offer. I will miss Epcot alot if we don't get down there to WDW, lol. It's going to take alot of thinking and planning to see if this is possible for us...Which isn't a bad thing Thanks gang!

Assuming you have lots of money and time then go for it. The problems we had doing just 2 nights at Disneyland resort was getting to the resort, unpacking, dealing with scheduling, packing and then getting home. It can be tiring to have to get to the hotel, wait for bags to be unloaded, check in, etc. I say you can do it if you allow for down time and easy stuff like seeing shows and parades. This applies to both parks.

I would love to see all the Disney parks but not if I did not have the down time to recharge after travel. For me that first day is like riding a horsee or bike in that today you have fun and tomorrow you feel the pain.

That would be the hard part for me as well. If I had 17 days (like Cheazp), there would be enought time to relax at each site, but I do not like the "getting settled" and "packing up" parts of a trip, so a shorter time at each place would be more of what I dread!

I met a family the other day at my work that were from Anaheim. Their lil boy has grown up on DL and they were driving cross country to try out Disney World. They stopped in New Orleans for the night and were eating at my work LOL.

I was their server and they got me started about Disney World. Disney World is alot of fun and r the parks i have grown up on. There r some things about DL that i like that DW doesn't have. Plus, i havent been since CaAdventure was under construction. So i'm sure it has changed alot. I would go to CA to visit my cousins, so we would go to DL for a day or two.

Disney World is my home but i would love to eventually make it back to Disneyland. Believe me if i lived in CA or in FL we would do trips to each of the areas every other yr.

We're doing it this fall! Starting with 5 days in Disneyland, hopping on a cruise ship and sailing for 15 days through the Panama Canal and visiting various ports along the way until we get to Miami. Then we are driving to WDW for a week. We're staying onsite at WDW, but spending most of our days at Universal Studios - but we'll be for sure hitting Magic Kingdom while we are there (and maybe more, depending on whether we need our GAD/GAD ticket for Disneyland or not). But we'll be gone a month, so it's going to be nice and relaxing. I'll let you know what we think when we get back. Ah, heck - I can tell you right now... we had a good time!

Sounds great Donna!

I've thought of doing that, being on the west coast, I could get a multi-city fare flying down to LA, stopping for a few days then continuing on to MCO, and flying home from MCO. One day........

but taking southwest from burbank to vegas..

it costs nearly the same as just a r/t ticket
