Forums Closed
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.

So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.

Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.

And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.

We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.

There are other changes as well.

Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:

We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.

It's time to move on and move forward.

PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.

But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.

So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.

And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.

That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.

Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!

If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.

So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

Best wishes for a wonderful and magical new year!

With a few exceptions in some areas (WDW is NOT one of these exceptions) "public intoxication" or being "drunk in public" is illegal, yes it is a crime. It becomes serious when you consider that approximately 40 % of the people who visit WDW on any one day stay off site and in all likelihood will be driving when the leave. A fair portion of people staying on site also drive and when they leave the parks they will have to get back to their resorts somehow. There have been good points made by a lot of folks here, some I heartily agree with and some I strongly disagree with. Just remember, opinions are like bellybuttons, everyone has one and if they are happy with theirs they do not want yours. I often enjoy other peoples bellybuttons.

Whats so funny about this is I have encountered some of the rudest behavior from non-drunk just rude people...people cursing, people pushing their children to cut lines, people wearing shirts that are not appropriate for children.
I partake in the EPCOT pub crawl each year for my birthday...and while I am very responsible and considerate of my environment...I have noticed that the F&WF weekends at night do have a bourbon street atmosphere at times.
Trashy people= Trashy people ...I saw people at our local zoo getting drunk and smoking in non-designated areas ...but i also saw people who were not drunk but were letting the kids run around unattended and climbing on the fence that separated their children from the lion... while they were texting.

Is this something recent or am I just beginning to notice it? Does Disney do anything about impaired guests? Should I have said something to a CM? I cannot imagine getting drunk in front of my children, but maybe I'm just a prude.
I think we are wandering from the OP and its question. yes there are rude people in WDW. yes there are unattended children. its well documented in studies of our society is becoming rudier and children are less disiplined (although this isn't true of any of us here ) most of us were answering this question and from posts from folks returning from EPCOT, especially during F&W the answer seems to be YES! I've seen it on All Ears. I've seen it in the postings here and I've been warned by folks when they heard of my coming trip. and yes to the OP, you should report it, yes there is more.

CM should know to check a passed out guest even if they do smell of alcohol since that effect in conjunction with diabetics is well known. If the person is drunk, they should be removed from the lobby. if they are diabetic, they need to get medical attention. Living in a college town, i can find folks who have over indulged any time, so yes if you are staggering or loud and are holding a drink i'll assume you are drunk and not just a rude person.

Absolutely! Well said!

And while I dislike seeing intoxicated people anywhere, they are easy to avoid. I just put on my "I'm-in-Disney-so-nothing-can-bother-me" blinders. For me, my vcations are too darned expensive to waste an iota of my vacation time getting upset about the actions of others.

I will report it to a CM, but then I walk away and go on with my own enjoyment.

kind of hard to ignore sometimes though, if people are vomiting in front of you or loud and obnoxious on rides or driving like reckless teenagers in a parking lot.. you know playing games with the car or mauling each other in line..lol
easier to avoid the situation as much as possible
what I dont understand is why and how WDW became a place to go and get drunk..... why there?
eh, guess some people never had their wild times or are still in them or dont get out much.
Cant say as its ever really ruined my 'enjoymnet' either, maybe just changed my plans for the day or afternoon

Which was my point with the ONE report I've ever made(in 42 trips). I spoke to a Cm, whom I'm sure did their own evaluation of the situation, then security ASKED to speak to me(not in range of the reported party). We went on with the evening, without a second thought. The OP asked if she should've reported-I did, which was my response to her. I did not confront the man, or FALSELY conjure information. Frankly, I bet he had been on security's radar before I said a word.

And on the CM topic-don't think that because they serve "one more" to someone, that their next move isn't to call in someone to keep an eye on the guest. Confrontation can only escalate a bad situation, & I can imagine that unless the situation would be dire or dangerous to those around them, the guest would be dealt with in a less populated situation.

I have to agree here. My blinders work pretty well at Disney. I am, afterall in the Happiest Place on Earth and many times drunk people are just EXTRA happy! LOL

I seem to remember quite a bit of loud giggling and a wig being ripped off on some boat ride in Mexico....I guess WE were the obnoxious drunk people....

i have lots of practice at walking away, but there are times when you can't or shouldn't have to (during a show, ride, a meal). but again, this is off the original post.

I believe the orignial poster's question has been answered that it would have been completely within her rights to report the situation to a CM.

We are closing the thread at this time. We appreciate everyone's comments in the effort to answer the OP's questions.
