As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears

Moving on with the current of the years.

It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.

I think half the Swine flu diagnosis' are wrong and it's just regular flu. Their not even trying to figure out which one you have.
I don't know--- flu season doesn't really hit until November (normally Nov-Mar). I just think it's a little too predominant in our area, so early, to be just regular old seasonal flu. Something is a little different this year IMO. They're not trying to figure out which one you have, because flu is flu--- same symptoms, same treatment. The only difference is this seems to be hitting a little deeper, and more are having the complication of pneumonia than is normally seen in seasonal flu--- so that's what docs are really looking for (ensuring there is no pneumonia).
My sons had the flu in July. We have never ever in our lives been sick in the summer (except for a stomach bug)--- I believe it was H1N1. Apparently it hit asthma camps hard in the state, and that's where Aidan was 2 days before he was sick.

my boss's daughter was going to the ER with a 105 fever and horrible cough.
Oh-- hope she is better. That's exactly what my sons had--- 104 and 105 (awful coughs), but I never took them to the ER, I was able to bring the fevers down on my own. I wish I did bring them in, just so I know they had it, and I wouldn't have to worry about H1N1 vaccination.
My DD has had the flu and I've been home with her the last two days. She had the flu shot last Friday, but it needs at least two weeks to build immunity. Her class was half-empty earlier this week because so many kids have the flu or colds.
My Ddad is in the hospital right now with pneumonia. He is in the high risk group
with lung and breathing problems so both he and my mom get the shot every year.
My DD got the flu mist over a month ago and (knock on wood) no problem. DH and
I always get our flu shots and we've never had any problems.
The hardest part of that is that schools want the kids to stay away, but they're punished for not being there. Parents are in a catch 22 - keep them home, safe from infecting others but risk failure of classes, or send them to make the rest of their class ill and pass.
That is the exact reason that regardless of the fact that we had a note from the doctor to stay out of school until this Monday dd was back in school on Wednesday. Her math teacher teaches at one speed (90 mph) and he keeps going whether you understand or not so if you aren't even in class you have no hope of passing. We threw the doctors note away. I just got an email from our school district today updating us on everything H1N1 and I replied that my dd told me most of the soap dispensers in the school are empty and that maybe they should look into that.
DD woke up yesterday with a fever of 101.5. Today the fever is better but she has a nasty cough. So we've got the flu in our house.
Not a big surprise -- it's been rampant in our schools. Several 3rd and 1st grade classes had fewer than half their kids in last week.
We had the seasonal flu shot, so this is one of the "other" strains. I don't really care whether it's H1N1 or not -- sick is sick. But she's seen the news and is afraid she's going to die! She wanted to say a "last goodbye" to her dolls last night.
I can count on one hand the number of times she's been sick in 9 1/2 years, so this is an odd event for us.
Anyone else down with the bug?
If so, Pixies to them and the ones who care for them. I've never used so much hand sanitizer in three days in my life!
one of my twins has it. He is 9 and has heard the news reports and read a newspaper story about a 5 year boy dying. My son has mild asthma and is scared. And missing a Halloween party and trick or treat , He is still acting fairly normal though, he really wants me to buy him a snugglie for everyone
